^ BTW, I always wonder why Captain America doesn't have a sword or spear  - when a Roman legionary wielded a shield w/ one hand, his other hand must always be holding a sharp, offensive cold weapon, & America is supposed to represent the zenith of the Western civilization directly evolving from the Greco-Roman one. Hence that looks pretty strange to me.

The reason Captain America does not have a sword, spear, or other sharp melee weapon is because he does not want to kill unless absolutely necessary. An offensive cold weapon would be used in the process of harming others, and this is not something the Captain wants unless he has no other choice. His emphasis is on the shield because it is also symbolic for protecting his country, his people, and his ideals. (This is also the reason why Steve Rogers Captain America rarely uses guns. Bucky Barnes Captain America in the comics did use guns, and Sam Wilson Captain America used a pistol at one point.) It's also possible that there is no other melee weapon since the USA has no long history of melee combat (unlike many places in Europe or Asia) but I think the symbolism is the main reason.

The Sentinel presumably wants to follow in this tradition. I could, however, see him using a melee weapon when he fights Neo-Queen Serenity. By that time, he has no more country or people to protect. America has ceased to exist when it joined Crystal Tokyo. That being said, I do not think an extra melee weapon will do much good given exactly who he is up against.

Tbh I'm not that good at writing fight scenes. Anything you would like to see?

I see, but I think Captain America still uses even his shield as an offensive weapon when he throws it at his opponents. lol I also think swords were still being used (for actual combats, not ceremonial purpose) by the US military even tho firearms had already been available at the time, & bayonets & combat knives are still being used by them even nowadays.

If that's not your strong point, don't put too much efforts on it, I'd say - focus more on what you're good at. :)

Thank you so much for your support. I will focus more on what I'm good at. I think I've already said everything about the decline and fall of America in Sailor Moon from a sociological or historical perspective unless there are any more ideas you have.

Now here's something funny and sad at the same time.

At this point, the theme song for the Sentinel of Liberty is not “Real American” by Hulk Hogan.

It would be “Komm Susser Tod” from Neon Genesis Evangelion

Yes, the Sentinel wants to die, similarly to the narrator in Komm Susser Tod.

I know, I know I've let you down
I've been a fool to myself
I thought that I could
live for no one else
But now through all the hurt & pain
It's time for me to respect
the ones you love
mean more than anything

The Sentinel believes he let down his country, the United States of America. Living only for the love of his country was not enough, but it means more than anything else for him. While he loves all Americans, the people he is closest to are Adam Rogers and ironically enough, Neo-Queen Serenity (he cannot deny the good she has done for the world).

So with sadness in my heart
(I) feel the best thing I could do
is end it all
and leave forever
what's done is done it feels so bad
what once was happy now is sad
I'll never love again
my world is ending

The Sentinel of Liberty will fade when no one believes in the ideals of America anymore. This slow disappearance is horrifying for him, and he wants to die in battle against Neo-Queen Serenity. It would be a far better fate than gradually and inevitably fading from existence. With his country gone, he cannot love anymore, his world will soon come to an end, and he will schedule his own departure.

I wish that I could turn back time
cause' now the guilt is all mine
can't live without
the trust from those you love
I know we can't forget the past
you can't forget love & pride
because of that, it's killing me inside

He feels guilty about the whole collapse of the USA and how he was not powerful enough or skilled enough to stop it. He literally cannot live without the belief of Americans in their founding ideals, and when that passes, so will he. The Americans forgetting their past and their pride in their country is killing him inside, literally and metaphorically.

It all returns to nothing, it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing, I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down
In my heart of hearts
I know that I could never love again
I've lost everything
everything
everything that matters to me, matters in this world

As the United States of America reaches its ending, the Sentinel lost everything that matters. He has to accept the results, and therefore, he will meet his end.

I wish that I could turn back time
cuz now the guilt is all mine
can't live without
the trust from those you love
I know we can't forget the past
you can't forget love & pride
because of that, it's killing me inside

It all returns to nothing, it just keeps tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing, I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down
It all returns to nothing, it just keeps tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing, I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down

^ It's sad that he's got only one purpose of living due to his very nature, unlike ordinary humans. :(
Agreed. My thoughts are that Neo-Queen Serenity is able to send his soul to the Galaxy Cauldron after destroying him. There, he may have a second chance. Perhaps he will be able to have a new life, as an ordinary being?

I may want to rewrite the Neo-Queen Serenity vs. Sentinel of Liberty fight eventually.

Headcanons of this fight. The Final Battle for the Soul of America

Sentinel has trained extensively from 2098-2100 to go from Super Sailor level at max to Eternal level + (substantially slower and weaker than Neo-Queen Serenity, but probably a match for any other Eternal Sailor Guardian). Alternatively, limit breaker Sentinel. All the power that used to be from regular Americans loving their country is now being funneled into the Sentinel of Liberty. I also suppose that his anger at his country ceasing to exist has reached a supercritical point. He is completely centered in his rage. A calm eye in a hurricane of blows. This contrasts to Sailor Moon/Neo-Queen Serenity and her complete tranquility in fights.

The courtyard where the fight occurs actually projects into an alternate dimension (like a benign version of Nehelenia’s mirror worlds) to minimize collateral damage. Nevertheless, the fight itself reaches the point where some people can actually sense it happening even outside the pocket dimension.

Sentinel throwing the shield and Neo-Queen Serenity catching it (so basically Winter Soldier catching Captain America’s shield in the Winter Soldier film, but much faster) followed by Moon Tiara Action/Moon Frisbee with the shield is a good idea.

Throwing the crown for Moon Frisbee is also possible. Perhaps this is done to counteract the first shield throw.

Despite all the effort, Neo-Queen Serenity has no visible damage. The few hits that the Sentinel lands barely do anything. This is metaphoric for the USA’s futile efforts.

All the attacks from Dream Arc onwards can damage the Sentinel through the shield. Everything before that fails to penetrate. Silver Moon Crystal Eternal Power breaks the shield entirely.

Cosmic Safari

As the Galactic Coalition was formed and Crystal Tokyo became one of its most important members, there were many weird and terrifying entities out there–including some that may need to be stopped.

Horror in the Deep Core

The Deep Core of the Milky Way galaxy holds a greater density of star systems than anywhere else in the galaxy. The influence of the central black hole Sagittarius A* is a big reason for that. The Deep Core, correspondingly, also has the greatest number of possible galactic threats.

Chaos is submerged deep in the Galaxy Cauldron at Sagittarius Zero Star, close to the central black hole. Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians defeated this overarching cosmic evil in the Shadow Galactica War, and the Watchers of the Deep Core were founded to monitor the area and prevent the reemergence of Chaos. This is a never-ending watch, and individual observers are rotated in shifts. Sailor Guardians of the Deep Core are also recruited from planets like Chuu, Coronis, Mau, and Mermaid. Rangers support the Sailor Guardians in battle if needed, and take down smaller threats. Even so, a Chaos reemergence would likely devastate the area, and the Watchers would likely just buy time until the Sailor Guardians arrived to deal with the problem. Even so it would be bloody.

The Hadex Abomination

The black hole Hadex holds a strange inky creature inside it. That creature, whatever it is, is locked in the black hole and cannot fully get out, but it will bombard anything that gets within its system with its mouth-based dark matter weapon. The only depictions of the Hadex abomination (as it was called) resembles an eel-like thing sticking out of the black hole with attached tentacles. As a result, the Hadex system has been quarantined. Oddly enough, derelict ships may sometimes enter the system, as if drawn in by the foul creature. The Watchers of the Deep Core will bring down these derelicts if needed to avoid feeding the abomination. Killing it was deemed too difficult with the limited resources the Watchers have. The Hadex system is also uninhabited, save for the watch at its borders.

The Star Swallower

There is a... something out there that finds stars delicious. Neo-Queen Serenity thinks whatever that is might need to be stopped one day if it endangers a member of the Galactic Coalition. Yes, that something eats stars. It is called "The Star Swallower". The Star Swallower hasn't actually threatened anyone yet. If it actually ate a star with an inhabited planet around it, then yes that would probably be a cause for its elimination. A possible guess: the Star Swallower is scared of the Sailor Guardians and Neo-Queen Serenity in particular.

Mysteries of the Cosmos

The Deneb Dyson Swarm

The Deneb system has a Dyson Swarm around its star to harvest its energy. No, Crystal Tokyo did not build it. Professor Lohengramm says that the astrohistorians think it belonged to a civilization called "The First Republic '' that collapsed due to Chaos, but that is just an educated guess. This is even older than the original Silver Millennium, which is at least 10 thousand years old and probably older than that. Clearly whoever built this Dyson Swarm has an enormous capacity for harnessing stellar energy. Its civilization collapsed, but apparently the Swarm is still relatively functional, if a shell of its former self in terms of efficiency. For now, the Galactic Coalition has yet to derive the political will to fix the Dyson Swarm–even understanding how it works has proven difficult.

The First Republic

The first galactic-scale civilization in the Milky Way would arise after the Galaxy Cauldron seeded stars, planets, and life on some of those planets. Much colonization of the Milky Way occurred, with species templates who look roughly human populating most of them. Exceptions occurred, such as the cats of Mau or the crows of Coronis.

It was not long after the dawn of galactic civilization that Chaos tried to break everything. Chaos-infused monsters started attacking planets. Cosmos, or rather Guardian Cosmos, intervened by creating Sailor Guardians, powerful pure-hearted champions who could push back the surging evil. Despite the appearance of these early Sailor Guardians, the monsters of Chaos were often capable of devastating entire solar systems. This started the Sailor Wars, and the struggle against Chaos continued for uncounted millennia.

It would not be long until solar systems in the galactic center worked together to try and stem the tide of Chaos. When civilizations gained faster-than-light travel, they could meet each other and communicate with each other. The first galactic government was called the First Republic, and it was a precursor to the various system governments in the Milky Way. Like all predecessors, it would fall. This time, the fall came from the difficulties in managing a galactic government combined with the depredations of Chaos. As the Galactic Order expanded from the galactic center outwards, its bureaucracy became larger and more inefficient. Inter-system trade was also a concern, especially when Chaos raiders intercepted trade ships. The First Republic fell, and no overarching galactic government would form until Shadow Galactica–which lasted only a few years. In that intermediate time period, most governments only occupied a system or two and inter-system trade was greatly reduced. Megastructure construction ceased since it required a galactic scale of resources–which was no longer possible.

Astrohistorians hypothesize that the original Silver Millennium formed from refugees of the First Republic, fleeing the ravages of Chaos.

The Moon Tiara Boomerang aka Moon Frisbee & Moon Tiara Action could cut his shield into halves if they'd contact w/ the shield perpendicularly - would look even more spectacular for the PGSM version of the boomerang, since it looks exactly like one.

Now for the update

Transhuman inspiration and dread

One reason for the American response to Neo-Queen Serenity and Crystal Tokyo could perhaps be transhuman inspiration vs. transhuman dread.

The Sailor Guardians and especially Neo-Queen Serenity are the objects of admiration for most of the world due to their heroism, benevolence, wisdom, and leadership skill. They are idolized and rightfully so. The world has become freer, happier, much more prosperous, and science and art have flourished. They are inspirational in the sense that they can accomplish tasks that no ordinary human can, but everyone else can follow in their wake. These ladies are the exemplars of morality and following their example is a great idea. It is very likely that the inspiration that Sailor Moon/Neo-Queen Serenity and the Sailor Guardians provide combined with their magical capabilities also make people more inclined to follow them.

Yet for the Americans, there has been a great deal of fear–and a belief that the Sailor Guardians and their queen make regular people irrelevant from their presence alone. The rapid rise of Crystal Tokyo and its capability to surpass all other nations–which eventually joined them, would put a sense of cosmic irrelevance for America. “You have clawed your way to global hegemony in 200+ years, and it’s gone now.” The founding belief of the United States of America is that all men and women are created equal. This is put into immediate question when you have someone created far above a standard human, with powers and abilities that boggle a standard person. No normal person can compete, and any attempts to do so eventually fail.

Death is seen as the last station, the be-all and end-all. Yet for Sailor Moon, especially since she has become Neo-Queen Serenity, death is but a bad joke. She has resurrected her friends the Sailor Guardians, among many others, and undone the deaths of an entire galaxy. The most primal fear of humanity is nothing for her. In fact, an urban legend is that “The people of Crystal Tokyo have much longer lifespans because Death itself is too scared to take them before their time.” While probably inaccurate, it does show that someone with that type of ability over death could be unnerving. (A similar fear occurs with the Black Moon Clan in the actual manga).

President Rogers probably has the worst feeling of transhuman dread when it comes to Neo-Queen Serenity. This is the end result of spending an entire life in a country that has been trying and failing to push back against her efforts. Meeting her in person also makes this worse given his already-existing mindset. Usually this is not an issue for Neo-Queen Serenity since most of the people who meet her either already love her, or at least greatly respect her for her actions. Rogers has spent his whole life trying to maintain the viability of the United States of America and then found his mission to be a failure in the end. Then he meets the person responsible for all this.

Crystal Tokyo's Professionals, Longevity, and Skill Ceiling

Crystal Tokyo people can live into the hundreds--perhaps even to a thousand or more (King Endymion in the manga says most people in Crystal Tokyo can live up to a thousand years). Chalk that up to advanced medical technology, a very well-functioning healthcare system, and the power of the Silver Crystal. Neo-Queen Serenity has such power over the Silver Crystal that its effects apply to every citizen of Crystal Tokyo. It is not just a localized effect. I think this is another reason so many countries joined her

That is also a big reason why Crystal Tokyo professionals are so skilled. Professor Lohengramm, for instance, got his PhD in 2040 and has spent the remaining half-century or so studying America ever since and is the foremost expert of post-2008 America, above any of our own historians about ourselves. (And yes, he studied the US prior to getting his PhD too.)

I mentioned Taylor Swift in the artist section way back when. You have situations like that where some people have spent ninety years or more honing their craft, and I think this would apply to her in this project. You can see why no American artist can compare at this point.

This is even more pronounced for the Sailor Guardians. For example, Sailor Mercury (Ami Mizuno) is a master at almost every field of science and engineering, possible due to the longer lifespan and access to archeotechnology from the old Moon Kingdom thousands of years ago. She is a big reason why Crystal Tokyo is technologically ahead of every other country, and the Sentinel claims that other than Neo-Queen Serenity/Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury is one of the people most responsible for the decline of America (at least technologically).

With longer lifespans, no degradation, and high technological support, there are skill levels hitherto unseen. This has led to art and science improvements beyond the scope of normal countries.

Why didn't you visit the D Point, then, as it's not that far away?
D Point was destroyed in both the manga and anime continuities. In the manga it was destroyed in the Queen Metalia battle, and in the anime it was destroyed in the Super Beryl battle. Anyhow, I think that the locations of many areas in Sailor Moon are magically warded so no normal person can go there.

If this had a TV Tropes Page

Calling Your Attacks: Fifty States Finish and many of Sailor Moon/Neo-Queen Serenity’s attacks.

Captain Patriotic: The Sentinel of Liberty.

Curb-Stomp Battle: The Sentinel of Liberty is incapable of seriously harming his opponent Neo-Queen Serenity, who defeats him with no difficulty. Sailor Venus also destroys the Monsoon Industries invasion force in Mexico without breaking a sweat.

Death Seeker: The Sentinel of Liberty becomes this by the end. His wish is granted.

Democracy is Flawed: Neo-Queen Serenity speaks to the Sentinel of Liberty about this.

Does This Remind You of Anything? There are many parallels to American politics, the Fall of the Soviet Union, and the Fall of Qing China in the decline of the United States.

Eagleland: Mixed. While America is losing to Crystal Tokyo, it took a century for the land of the free to fall and its democracy is not in danger until the very end.

Expy: Sentinel of Liberty is one for Captain America (albeit much stronger)

Fallen States of America: The United States falls into this post-Crash of 2088.

Fatal Flaw: The Sentinel of Liberty has two: an inability to take power to solve systemic issues combined with a martyr complex.

From Bad to Worse: The Crash of 2088 is the beginning of the end for the United States of America.

Good vs. Good: Neo-Queen Serenity and her country Crystal Tokyo have done more for mankind than any other, but the Sentinel of Liberty and the United States are not true villains.

The High Queen: Neo-Queen Serenity, naturally.

Hope Spot: The "Did Not Go Gentle" chapter.

In The Name Of The Moon: This is a Sailor Moon Project. Self-Explanatory.

Magical Girl Warrior: The Sailor Guardians.

Patriotic Fervor: The Sentinel of Liberty gives an impassioned defense of the American voter.

Private Military Contractors: Monsoon Industries is one.

Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Fifty State Finish is this.

Shoot The Shaggy Dog: The United States of America falls despite the best efforts of President Rogers and the Sentinel of Lib

In Perspective

This whole decline and fall of the United States of America is ultimately a sideshow in the whole scheme of Crystal Tokyo. The real objectives are to get the highest possible standard of living for the people of Earth, and to make a functioning galactic coalition against a reemergence of Chaos or Sailor Chaos. This is the fear represented by the possible future of Sailor Cosmos.

The galaxy was in a dire state after the Shadow Galactica War which happened in the late 1990s. Sailor Moon had revived the planets and people destroyed by the war with the Lambda Power, but the galaxy was still badly affected. Many systems feared the rise of another conquering power, of which they had no chance against alone. After unification of most of Earth, Crystal Tokyo could start helping everyone else in the galaxy even as they were trying to beat the USA. The Sentinel is a sideshow compared to Crystal Tokyo getting unparalleled abundance and prosperity in their domain and helping rebuild the galactic community after the Shadow Galactica War happened. This ranged from having Sailor Guardians dispose of threats or Chaos entities to technology sharing. The galaxy now has a council of its most important members (of which Crystal Tokyo is an important member alongside the Watchers of the Deep Core and several other star nations--and Crystal Tokyo will get an undisputed leadership position after achieving planetary unification, which perhaps explains why Neo-Queen Serenity wants the USA absorbed so badly). Most major polities have a say in galactic cooperation (admittedly most of it is to prevent a galactic threat from happening on the scale of Shadow Galactica trying to take over the galaxy, or worse, Chaos returning.) Already, Crystal Tokyo is an inspiration not just for the Earth, but the entire galaxy. Most star nations have found something useful and taken it into consideration. This will only become more pronounced after getting that undisputed leadership position.

So it really puts a whole new perspective: for the Sentinel and Rogers, the end of America is the greatest challenge ever. For Neo-Queen Serenity and the Sailor Guardians, absorbing America is just a step in the endless battle against Chaos.

Sentinel of Liberty Costume

Yes, it’s been a while and I just referred to his costume as “red, white, and blue”. I should make a fixed appearance for this costume, and it does resemble “What if Takeuchi designed Captain America”

Helmet: Blue, with a star on the forehead.

Gloves and Boots: Red.

Shirt: White with a winged eagle sign on the chest. Likely homages the bow on Sailor Moon.

Pants: Dark blue.

Yes, the similarities to the classic Sailor Moon costume are the Sentinel altering his costume to reflect what/who he thinks is strong.

It’s not just the Sentinel who imitates Sailor Moon/Sailor Guardians outfits/fashion. Many fashion trends follow the archetypes of these great heroes.

Sadly, I cannot draw. Perhaps one day I'll try my hand at the costume pieces.

Music Themes + Headcanons

I am going to give the Sentinel of Liberty the Virgil Fox Organ Collection

The pipe organ fits with his grandeur and strength, representing the strength of America’s ideals and what it should be. This contrasts with the decay of his country–the might and moral righteousness of what America should be contrasted to the moribund state of the Union post-Crash. Pipe organs are also often associated with antagonists, and the Sentinel is the main antagonist of Neo-Queen Serenity in the end of America.

Yes, there is a Star-Spangled Banner Organ Version, which I think fits very well for the creation of the Sentinel.

I wonder if having Adam Rogers get a Political Science Masters at Harvard would be interesting. Perhaps he goes there at one point to catch up on how political science has changed since the dominance of Crystal Tokyo. He would probably do very well, and maybe even described as the best political science student since Mamoru Chiba… who also studied at Harvard in the Stars manga before being slain by Sailor Galaxia (which the US government would probably just think of as a terrorist attack, not knowing what really happened).

It would fit Rogers as a pale imitation of Mamoru Chiba/King Endymion, just as the Sentinel is a pale imitation of Usagi Tsukino/Neo-Queen Serenity.

Headcanons

Sentinel WILL punch someone who is transforming and is fast enough to pull it off. This will not work on Neo-Queen Serenity, who no longer needs to transform to beat him easily.

King Endymion being able to feel the empathy and pain in the hearts of all people on Earth makes the wars of the 21st Century and the Crash of 2088 especially painful for him. This also explains why he is so invested in the process of getting countries to join Crystal Tokyo to end the suffering of their people.
