I'm curious as to how this adaptation in divided up in your mind.

You forgot to separate the Nico Nico and the Blu-ray edition for season 1. They're obviously two different beasts. Literally. :booze:

Second option.

Sailor Moon Crystal ONA will always be one season, being the Season III the actual second season. The division of the ONA into two seasons was merely a marketing strategy by Toei when Crystal moved from NicoNico to Tokyo MX. Then there are Crystal fans who want to keep these changes to give the series the feeling of being longer than it actually is; they're even willing to name Eternal and Cosmos as Seasons 4 and 5 of Crystal.
It's ridiculous. In that case we'll say the classic anime has 10 seasons if we split R and Stars into two series and count each movie as a season. Anyway, as I said, ridiculous. As ridiculous as Crystal.

We could still have nine seasons in the 90s anime even if the movies weren't counted, namely, Dark Kingdom, Rainbow Crystals (a sub-season), Makaiju, Black Moon, pre-Hotaru S, Hotaru S, Dead Moon, Nehellenia, & Stars.

We have to divide SuperS into the Amazon Trio and Amazoness Quartet sub parts

For fun, you could also use the Openings to divide them lol
Classic - 3 parts - Moon/Mercury/Mars Trio, Jupiter/Rainbow Crystal, Venus-Princess Serenity
R - 3 parts - Makaijyuu, Ayakashi/Rubeus/Chibi-Usa, Crystal Tokyo/Demand and co.
S - 3 parts - UraNep/Kaolinite, Eudial/Search for Grail, Super Sailor Moon/Hotaru
SuperS - 2 parts - Amazon Trio, Amazoness Quartet
Stars - 2 parts - Nehenelia, Galaxia

Which plus 3 movies makes 16! :P

Anyways, I divide the Crystermos adaptation by production cycle.
Crystal I & II as one, Crystal III as a second and Eternal and Cosmos as the third (since we know they began production as soon as the movies hit theaters and there was literally no change since Tadano didn't even create new setteis at all).

Basically by character design, the Sakou era, the Takahashi era and Tadano era.

Oh yeah, I've totally forgotten that! :oh: So it should've been 10 seasons. lol

Makes sense too. :)

Same here (the bolded part):
My take is either:

S1, S2, S3, Eternal I, Eternal II, Cosmos I, & Cosmos II - seven things

Or:

S1 & S2 as one thing (ONA), S3 (TV series), & Eternal & Cosmos as one thing (movies) - three things

Separating them by character design makes sense. I'm not so sure about considering Eternal and Cosmos as one though given the change of director. That's a significant upset in production crew that was reflected in the final product and differentiated it from Eternal (at least to an extent).

Despite the change of directors and Cosmos looking significantly better than Eternal, for me they are in practice way too similar.

A 1:1 adaptation of the manga with all of it's flaws and problems (except on a few scenes here and there in Cosmos P2), a bastardized version of Tadano's 90s design, the overabundance and reliance on nostalgia/fanservice via the (poorly) recycled 90s stocks, the presence of Japanese entertainment star power in the new characters to boost performance, the reuse of the 90s iconic songs instead of new, original songs like in Crystal I-III...

At their core, Eternal & Cosmos are too similar.

I see it all as one thing, though going by the dub, Cosmos is not part of it yet, and even if it gets dubbed I'm not sure whether I'll directly acknowledge it, partly due to a bit of confusion. But I see Crystal as one big story, Seasons 1-3 and then Eternal, Parts 1 and 2, collectively acting as Season 4, though I did list Eternal as number one on my "Top 10 favorite movies of 2021". Listing my anime MVD's ranked, I listed #3 as "Queen Nehelenia, Sailor Moon Crystal". While I listed Myotismon twice, once in Adventure 01, and once as MaloMyotismon in Adventure 02 as I do divide them.

Why do some people see Season 3 as its own thing? I never understood that. Netflix lists it as the third season of Crystal in the same area as the firs two, while listing Eternal separately.

And original series do have their seasons divided into arcs:

Season 1: Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite, Kunzite (concluding with Beryl battle which takes two episodes by uncut)
R: (Whatever Alan and Ann were called), Rubeus, Esmeraude, finale with Wiseman
S: Kaolinite, Eudial, Mimete, finale with Germatoid, Mistress 9, and Pharaoh 90
Super S: Amazon Trio, Amazoness Quartet, finale with Nehelenia

Sailor Stars, not sure, I'm guessing the Sailor Animamates are their own arcs then finale with Galaxia?

For one, it's the best (or least bad, depending on how one sees it lol ) one of the entire reboot IMO. lol
It could had been good if it wasn't for the horrid designs. I consider it one thing - we had a lot of changes in format and staff but ultimately each variation seems equally incompetent in the end.

So, other than the Outer Guardians and a different cast of villains, what did it have that Season 2 didn't? (Just curious) Or did peaple dislike the time travel aspect of S2?

S2 is an improvement from S1 in production quality, but the improvement is too little IMO, but S3 has a markedly bigger improvement overall, despite its own drawbacks. :) BTW, I always confuse you w/ Sapphire991, due to the obvious reason. XD

Black Moon arc in the manga is weak and a bit boring in the middle, it was even worse in Crystal. While production was better, they still had a lot of mistakes including the use of wrong attack that never got fixed, as well as some very weird attack animations. Season 3 had a much stronger direction and felt more dynamic and fluid when it comes to animation, while still not good by any means it was at least mostly animated, it also covered most people's favorite arc, and it brought back some of the comedy back to the show. Too bad the characters looked they worst. :D

I will say of course I enjoyed it MUCH more than its original series counterpart, S. I love Seasons 2, 3, and Eternal. Of those that are dubbed, Season 1 is my least favorite. (While in original series, Season 1 is my second favorite partly due to nostalgia. In both cases, Black Moon is my favorite season. Of those I seen, S is my least favorite.)
Original series: R, S1, Super S, S (would likely put Sailor Stars at the bottom)
Crystal: S2, Eternal, S3, S1, Cosmos (though I still found Cosmos more enjoyable than S)
