I mean, of course Sailor Moon is one of the lesser offenders (though Naoko having been a young woman herself, should know better) but IMO letting media off the hook because it's Japanese is racist. Like people in Japan can't know better lol. It's icky
I'm not "letting media off the hook because it's Japanese". I'm letting it off the hook because it's harmless.

What do you mean "They can't know better"?

Of COURSE they "know better"...they simply do not care.

Nor should they because it's JUST A DAMN STORY.

These stories are for entertainment. They're not supposed to be Life Lessons or be like "Hey, you should totally do what this character is doing, kids!"

I honestly don't get why people on the internet have to over-analyze EVERY. SINGLE. PIECE. OF. MEDIA. these days in the 2020s....like...you are SO paranoid...Sailor Moon never hurt girls watching it..., it didn't MAKE them fall prey to child predators....calm TF down already? Lol

I also think this is because Japanese kids are FAR less 'sheltered' in Japan. Even anime for young children like Grave of the Fireflies and Ringing Bell? They weren't afraid to go to dark places and have unhappy endings. Violence and nudity is widely uncensored there...unlike here in America where kids are treated like delicate little babies...so much so that characters aren't even allowed to say "die" or "I'll kill you" in cartoons on TV.
