The Kenshin anime (being one of the most popular anime during it's time in Japan) ended on an anime only filler arc.
The TV series did but it technically ended with sets of OVAs with a terrible anime-only ending for the last one.

Guys, don’t fall for the false myths that have plagued the internet for decades. Anyone with access to the Tankobons (and no, I’m not talking about the first English edition where most of Naoko’s comments were distorted or even made up) can see that Naoko loved the '90s anime, and especially the musicals. It’s become all too common among the fandom to say that Naoko hated the animated adaptation just to push the false belief that the only valid canon is the manga, and that’s far from the truth. What I have noticed is that since the 20th anniversary of the franchise, Naoko has been avoiding everything related to the '90s anime whenever she can, for one simple reason: it’s the thing that likely brings her the least profit, since it’s not entirely her creation. She makes more money from the manga and merchandise with images of her coloured illustrations. It’s all about the profit.

Why doesn’t she use the Moon Stick designed by Bandai in her illustrations? Why doesn’t she use the other wands and brooches in her artwork? Why haven’t the new musicals brought back many of the iconic songs from the Bandai musicals? In the end, it’s all about ‘ This is what I created, it’s mine, and I deserve the biggest cut ’. It’s very similar to her complaint about the Sailor Moon R movie, which was made without her involvement, because it was her manga, her characters, (that's what she says in the volume 11) and she likely didn’t get as much money from it (my assumption, but it must be true, she only got profits because of the main characters being used). That’s why she wanted to be one of the key figures in the creation and production of the Sailor Moon S movie, to make more money (Have you noticed the Japanese box set for the movies uses the S poster she designed as the cover? $$$$$$$, just $aying............). And with SuperS? The story wasn’t hers, but she handled the designs of the villains, which means she got a bit more money than she did from Sailor Moon R. And let’s not even start on her role as a supervisor in Eternal and Cosmos. It seems like a trauma that’s been haunting her since 1993.

Mark my words: Next movie box set will include the 5 movies, because Eternal and Cosmos are her story, what means out of the 5, 3 movies are based on her story. And Crystal fans will be crying because ETERNAL AND COSMOS ARE CRYSTAL SEASONS 4 AND 5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bleugh!! HOW DARE YOU TOEI!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid Toei also feels she gets too much profit with the 90s anime.
Markets where Sailor Moon didn't make it big financially-wise get terrible treatment nowadays.
I know major clothing and school supplies brands from Brazil approached Toei last year interested in making Sailor Moon clothes and notebooks, and Toei said a big NO because they felt Brazil was "too small" of a market for Sailor Moon.
Heck, why is that? If big companies are interested in your brand, how come you turn them off? Just because business deals from years and years ago went wrong? I don't buy it. Because One Piece also performed terribly in the past with the 4Kids edit, and now they close numerous deals with the same Brazilian companies they denied the rights to Sailor Moon.
It seems to me Toei thinks that unless their Sailor Moon deals make really big money, Naoko's chunk of the profits makes them unfeasible and they would rather not even close them.

Wait, REALLY? I don't know what surprises me most, that school supplies brands from Brazil approached TOEI interested in making Sailor Moon clothes and notebooks, or that TOEI refused. I mean, my guess would be that Sailor Moon is a hard sell in Brazil, but TOEI has very little to lose, right?!

I wonder if TOEI and PNP can license Sailor Moon to a porn company like Teamskeet. @Rika-Chicchi

The clothing brands were Renner and Riachuelo. The school supplies one was Tilibra. :vanish:

Why mentioning me, as I've never subscribed to that site? lol But should that really happen, I'd suppose the actors & actresses there would don Sailor Moon-themed costumes & use toys looking like gadgets featured in Sailor Moon?
