Its an alternate history reimagining metafic where 80s 90s anime importer Carl Macek gets the job of localizing Sailor Moon for DiC as he was originally going to and he does to SM what he did for Macross/Robotech. He reboots/ repackages it so its something brand new
In other words, he keeps most of the original footage but--after watching the entire series ahead of time so that he could know what would happen next time--changes the dialog to something else.
For example, Usagi wakes up in the first episode and when she does down stairs, Mama Tsukino says Usagi hurry up. And she says, "I will Mom but its Serena!"
:sigh: "Where did you get that nickname?"
"Just came to me in a dream gotta go mom!"
Episodes pass and Luna speaks to "Central Control" on the arcade machine but the voice is a woman's voice, imploring her to take care of dear Serena. But the scene where "Central Control" is revealed to be Artemis is deleted so we ask who this person is... Hmmm...
When Sailor Moon claims the Silver Crystal and turns into the Moon Princess, Macek changes the footage so that while she is unconscious she has a dream, a vision. He takes footage from season 1 episode 44 so that Sailor Moon wakes up on the Moon and sees Queen Serenity... and hers is the voice of Central Control! She was watching over Serenity Jr, her dear Serena, the entire time! (The other Sailors who where there in the background are erased so that its just SM and her mother the queen) SM sees the vision of her past life but when she wakes up in modern times, she panics. "Luna don't call me Serena, its Usagi! What'll I tell my mom? OMG Is Mama Tsukino even my mother anymore?
Kunzite/Malachite attacks and SM is the only one left. She then remembers Mama Tsukino's words that we must all be brave and she defeats him. Artemis say to his newly reclaimed princess, "Majesty, we're so proud of you." To which Luna adds "And your
mothers [plural] would be proud of you to." (Macek might have to reverse the footage so Luna talks last)
Yes she has her full memories and Luna calls her majesty. At the climax of Season One, all the other Sailors are killed, and we see the cats atop the Tsukino home. Luna says "don't use the Silver Crystal! Don't die like your mother!" Footage unchanged.
Macek then gets stock footage of SM's earth mother worried and we her voice actor speak in an echo to indicate its thought. "Oh darling, the world might be ending and you're out there somewhere. I know your heart. The only reason you'd be out there is if you were helping those in need. I can't believe I'll never see you again. Please, don't let evil win, not even of there's just one person left who's counting on you!"
The final battle starts and we hear Princess Serena's thoughts. "I hear you mother and I'm not afraid anymore!"
Jennifer Cihi sings "Carry on" She sings "evil's queen we will defeat!" and we hear Beryl say, "Why? Why does your family try to defeat me?* Your mother died dreaming of a lovely world that will never come to pass."
"You're wrong! I believe in my mothers' dream! [plural] I have faith! You're not winning this one you witch! Not when there's even just one person left who's counting on me."
She uses the Silver Crystal, defeats Beryl, and dies. Macek however takes footage from season 2 epsidoe 5. SM is naked and floating outside of normal space time. (Luna is erased) and in this limbo between life and death SM sees Queen Serenity. It proceeds to a Moon Kingdom-esque area and the Queen asks her daughter to come with her to Heaven . Serena wants to go, she wants her troubles to end but turns it down opting to stay to Earth to help people. " 'We are on this earth to help others.' That's why my mom taught me mom. Gasp! I mean what I'm trying to say is..."
Queen serenity is in tears but not the kind we the audience might think. She says, "No, you're right to say that. You have two mothers now... and both of them are queens!"
Our gal sheds a tear and says "Thanks for everything... mommy!"
She wakes up in her bed alive but memories gone, she runs down stairs. Stock footage of a worried Ikuko Tsukino is used and she says, "What, you're alright!? What happened!" Serena/Usagi runs out of the door, saying, "Gotta go! I'll try hard on the test! And thanks for everything mommy!" Mama Tsukino does not know what's happening but she knows her daughter will be ok and she smiles.
Jennifer Cihi sings "Got up this morning on the right side of my bed, with all these crazy thoughts screaming though my head. I can't wait to see what this world holds for me! Ohhh, its a new day!"
Rinse, lather, and repeat for the following seasons.
*No, seriously! If you play the song from 90s dub the and a full clip of the final battle from when SM opens her eyes, at the moment Cihi sings "evil's queen we will defeat" Beryl asks "Why are you trying to defeat me?"
