Is the Sailor Moon fandom really as bad as people think?

before this last time i was at a msg board was before fb and twitter was big xD itsall fine here
Oh wow, 11 years ago when Myspace and Bebo were around, I would role play Sailor moon on there and I remember my experience being very fun and I loved it. I did that I think a few years before I came on here. I have always liked Sailor moon , but that was my first time experiencing the fandom online.

My first experience on MySpace was very positive and uplifting and there wasn't any drama or bullying going on. We all loved the same thing and that was amazing that I could find others to talk about it with. When Facebook and Twitter came, I think the role playing and the fandom started to become more cliquish and I started having more problems with fitting in , especially because Myspace got shut down and I lost touch with the other role players on MySpace. After myspace, I went to Bebo which I enjoyed for a while, but then it shut down and then all I had to role play was Facebook and Twitter.

I tried role playing on Facebook and twitter for a while, but then it started getting exclusive and just not fun anymore. I feel like the fandom tried to push me away and I did take a break from sailor moon after that. It didn't stop me from loving Sailor moon itself, but now I'm just more cautious with the fandom or any fandom that I am part of. It's just better to be careful. I also learned to never talk about personal opinions or issues with people you don't know because it just allows them to judge you before getting to know you. Never share anything unless you are comfortable with who you are talking to. It's just some advice for you and everyone else on here if you ever run into situations like that. Sometimes fandoms can get aggressive and push people away and steal their passions. As long as you don't allow people to steal your happiness, there is nothing wrong with loving sailor moon and enjoying the fandom.

If anyone remembers Bebo and myspace, let me know. Anyways I apologize for my long post, I just like to share my excitement for sailor moon and my good and bad experiences while being part of this fandom.

....I want to read a fanfic about that subject. Seriously you have me intrigued.

Miss Dream's people are horrible. They harass anyone that tries to fan sub or translate that isn't part of their group, trying to force them to stop. They lie and claim they're the only ones with "permission" to translate things, and thus no one else should even try. They cyber bulled the owner of another SM forum when they found it they were a guy posting under Usagi's name. They once tried to stage a coup here and failed, which is why they have their own site now. Basically scum.
"Staged a coup." What?

More like harassing the Viz Editor of the Sailor Moon Manga on Twitter, tried to take over these forums, and basically calling crocodile tears after harassing an elderly Sailor Moon fan.

There's a reason I made a tumblr called MissDramu. Elly and her ilk are the biggest drama queens you wish you never met.

Before she went all Jellymod here one of her enemies who already won against her decided to edit his/her post here. Mara, if I recall correctly, punished him/her then went all butthurt by filing a DMCA complaint. The hosting site was kinda dumb to fall for it. This forum was down for a few days.

After Jellymod's meltdown here we had another Jellymod 2.0. :kero:

This forum has a long history of turbulence & upheavals, whether personal, technical, or even financial, in its earlier days, but has finally stabilized after Dr. Xadium's taking over of it - hope this'll continue so that everyone here can focus on Sailor Moon matters & other interesting stuff w/o worries on the stability of this platform itself. :)

Bronies have an entire genre of fanfiction revolving around [BLEEP]ing children, but it's okay because they're *horse* children. The Sailor Moon fandom might have upheavals, but can't hold a candle to the shithouse rat level of crazy that is the Brony fandom. Don't even get me started on the reams of fanfiction fetishizing graphic torture and murder. (If you think Chibiusa's 7th Birthday is bad, check out "Rainbow Factory".)

Current Brony myself, but was never like super obsessed or anything, just an interesting show and a nice ride while it lasted, as well as making the internet in general a lot more entertaining lmao. The weird videos and fanfiction were, to me, nothing really more than the kind of random goofiness that one would come to expect on the internet.

That said, I'll admit there are definitely some next-level crazies floating around. Doesn't help that the FedEx gunman was (apparently) bat*** OBSESSED with Apple Jack in particular, to a point where he was talking about hoping she's "waiting for him in the afterlife, or if she's not then life isn't worth living anyway", so says the MSM anyway.

Other than that, though, never really noticed anything along the lines of the whole community being at war with itself or anything like that. Must've dodged a bullet...

Not sure if i replies to this already but some of the men are....and this is usually regulated between the which version is best Dub vs Original.

Some international fans of the Original can and do lash out at Dub fans who call Usagi, Serena or use other dub names and what not. It's almost like an air of superiority.

it's true and it grinds my gears, to those folks I say fans of the old dub exist get over it we all like the same franchise who cares if it's DIC/Cloverway dub sub Viz dub alternate language dub or fan dubs PGSM, Crystal, Manga or video game etc we're all fans call them what you want to heck with that superior attitude, superior this ::tuxspeedmask:

that explains why she didnt answer me when I asked her if she wanted to have scans of my sailor moon sticker book, seeing she had all other German sailormoon stuff.

Superiority complex. (Google the term for more details of the condition.)
the only problems is i dont even know the dub names because we didnt have to deal with them. so only change we had was usagi to Bunny, all other names were original(save for transcription)(ah the many names of queen beryl ranging from Periglia, to perilia, bery;l etc..)
you get the same with digimon and pokemon etc too.
and dragon ball, dragonball is a weird case, like why is the English taking away half the names? in germany its Son Goku, Son gohan, Son Goten, etc ,

Same here - I only started to know about some of the English dub names on this forum & other English sites. lol I think those names are interesting, tho. :)

As we know, Naru was called 'Molly' in the English version, and in even another country (France IIRC), :ami: of all people was 'Molly', too!?

I think the Sailor Moon fandom is so diverse that it’s hard to judge.

You have;

The straight guys who’ve liked the show since the 90’s,
Female fans,
Feminist fans,
The LGBT fans,
The Crystal fans,
OG 90’s fans,
PGSM fans,
Manga fans

and more I’ve probably forgotten about. And obviously all these groups have wildly different world views and their own opinions about Sailor Moon. I know the same could be said about any franchise but I really think the universal appeal of the show in its various iterations is both its strength and its curse. It’s almost impossible to unite everyone without some kind of discontent.

That being said I don’t think this forum in particular is that bad. Sure there are people who have bad tempers but it’s the same for anywhere on the internet. Compared to Twitter it’s very mild here.
