Something new I've been working on, revolving around various characters decked out in tac gear, as sort of proof of concept for my one-day-to-be fancomic idea. I also plan to do something similar with Oniwabandana.
Started drawing this as sort of a speed challenge for me, to see how fast I can actually put together something decent without sacrificing too much in quality. That being the case, however, quality will and did kinda take a hit. Not sure I quite got the size and scale of his chest rig correct. And yes, I did cheat and traced the AUG quite heavily.
I've learned a lot about my weaknesses when it comes to efficiency with drawing, primarily in knowing when and where to cut corners to save time. Perfectionism has been pretty rooted in my workflow, so I'm working to shed that. It helps to actually watch the show and read the manga with an observant eye and notice just how
imperfect even professionals are for the sake of timeframe.
Everything up to this point (planning, construction, linework, and finally inking) has so far totaled a little
under 5 hours, which is... okay I guess, though not really ideal considering I did cheat a bit, and rushed a lot of other things. It's also pretty minimal for the concept. Probably could've added a bit more gear, like some leg pouches for flashbangs or something. But, as mentioned, the main goal of this drawing was to challenge my speed and efficiency.
I'm going to table this for now until I decide on a color palette. Can't decide whether to make his uniform white (as depicted in the original Sailor V manga, and as I imagine would be in Crystal along with the other generals), or the same dark gray color as the other Shitennou from the 90's anime.
