I’m just gonna say that I don’t think anyone is actually against anyone having opposite opinions. Among the people saying they liked what was posted, there are other posts besides the more critical users about the recent batch of drawings where users who said they didn’t like them and called them bad and that was all fine. Even I don’t mind reading some of the more analytical posts here. But when Lady Pen says no one could be serious about actually liking the Chanel images and MsImagination replies saying that they do actually like them regardless of whatever flaws were pointed out, she basically says that MsImagination is in the wrong, doesn’t know what good art is, and is just “hiding behind personal taste”. That’s what people mean when they call it condescending (reading their exchange, it certainly came off that way) and no one can really be surprised that that’s how it feels getting that kind of response to them saying they personally like something.

Yah, that was exactly why I respond. My problem was not that people dislike the art or why they dislike. My problem was when they were downing other opinions for liking it or the opinion that it was good.Treating their own opinions as fact. That is not criticism or plain discussion .In my opinion it was just plain condescending and being spiteful

I may be bored of Naoko's current illustrations all having the same mood, but that's not nearly so tiresome as the desperate reaching some people around here are still doing to argue Naoko has no talent and isn't a real artist. Get a new hobby.
While I'm not crazy about her recent art, I'm glad we're getting something.

Takeuchi hasn't drawn a manga in years. She's a full-time mother with a husband who's basically bedridden. Clearly she has more important things in her life than a manga she drew 30 years ago.

Echoing what @Clow I think it's really awesome this collab with Chanel is even happening. It's kind of perfect, right? Takeuchi has been inspired by various designers throughout her career so I'm sure she must've loved this project. I'm happy for her. I hope she continues to put out more art, even if it's not as exciting as her older stuff.

I can only speak for myself here but since I used to draw quite a lot when I was younger (I don't claim to have any serious knowledge or anything), it's really hard to not see anatomical errors / weird things in Takeuchi's art. So I suppose it's hard for me to accept that other people think something is pretty while I can see all the mistakes.
This is not a way of saying that your opinion is less important than mine. But when it's somewhat your area of expertise, you tend to think that you're right, I suppose ^_^'
Maybe this collab could give Takeuchi some energy so she can do some new project ?

The thing that I don't like is that, in having their say, they treat those who have different opinions from theirs underestimating them.

Someone said "those who like the Sailormoon manga probably haven't read many manga", but what do they know about me and other people who like it? I like the Sailormoon manga, and I've read a lot of manga from many different genres, I certainly don't find it inferior to other famous works by other mangakas.

Obviously, tastes are tastes, but I don't find the anatomical errors of Naoko's drawings so aberrant as to motivate so much hatred towards her, as I have already said, I have seen mangaka draw worse, with stories in some cases not even written by them, still having a good success despite a milder plot.

I too have some notions of drawing, a sprinkling from the art school (I attended it for a short time), and the rest as a continuous self-taught. For example, I have seen the illustrations of saint seiya posted by Talentless fool (those of the spin off manga), although full of details and of remarkable color quality, the faces are disproportionate, the eyes are too far apart and the faces look like those of the aliens of the films, moreover the images, although some portray moving scenes, seem static.
If the scenes in a manga lack movement and dynamism then they don't work well. A Mangaka is like the person who creates the storyboards for an animated movie, he must know how to grasp the sense of many actions in a few scenes and synthesize it.
Create images with characters often in static poses is a choice of the author, consistent with the style that has chosen to pursue, you can like it or not, but I'm not here to make a drama out of it. It is so and I accept it, even if I don't particularly like that style of drawing, I appreciate the effort put into creating a work.

To me, however, it seems that some seek, in addition to expressing their opinion, to impose their thoughts as absolute truth and that anyone who does not think like them is brainless.

I am well aware that Naoko Takeuchi's style and drawings are far from perfect, but they are not all this ugliness. Those who like them like them and those who don't like them don't like them, generating millions of posts reiterating what they evidently hate towards the author of the work they say they love is a clear way to negatively influence other people's judgment towards Naoko. Since no one here knows Naoko Takeuchi in person, can we spare ourselves conspiracy theories and poisonous comments about her please? I think Naoko is a good person, if something later turns out to define the opposite then I will come to grips with that kind of reality in due time.

For my part I will try to do the same, based not simply on my feelings when I comment but putting more reasoning into it.

Having said that, I hope things can be clarified and resolved for the best for everyone.
With my comment I didn't want to create a war but to share with you the discomfort I feel when someone judge me without knowing me and how I hate when an unhealthy environment is generated when there is no reason for it.

I'm a little tired of the 'Lady Pen this, Lady Pen that'.

Should I remind all my detractors that you are giving Thumbs Ups to a member who doesn't allow other people to have opinions that don't match his political beliefs, and also accuses others of racism and xenophobia based on simple observations? Or the other member who loves calling names, but 'ok, it doesn't matter, he's just insulting Lady Pen. Do we reprimand his actions? Nope. Do we fill pages and pages of a thread about that. Nope. What for?'

No, no, no, no, no, no...... don't get me wrong. You all can do whatever you want, and can support whoever you want. But some of the post of the last 8 pages of this thread are focused on one of the answers I gave to @MsImagination as though it were the stigma of sin. However the messages and intentions of the other member have been overlooked (for some reasons) on other threads and you hadn't filled pages and pages of your nonconformity, just patting on his back. Why? Easy. Lady Pen is always the enemy, the bad one, the member who always says her opinions without filters. Totally honest. A big personality, yeah, that's got its bad things I suppose. But I'm not regretful.

I've said a lot of good things about this franchise and her author as well, but mysteriously those messages were ignored the same way you ignore the bad messages of the other four members you love supporting, messages even worse than mine.

It's okay. This is a forum. Just 15-30 minutes of my entire 24 hour day. It's not my life. It's not my career. You're not my friends. However the last months I've seen a Lady Pen hunt by some people here. If you've got some problems of my participation on these boards, PM me instead of making this into a circus.

Now, back on topic.

Naoko's illustrations. I don't like them. Personal taste: I do not like them. Fact (based on my Art degree and my experience as curator): They are bad illustrations. Bad art. Bad composition. Bad everything. What Naoko should do is to go back to her analog way of painting and to revise her basic knowledge about balance an illustration, she did it in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. She can do it now, if she wants of course.

Exactly. And this has literally been the tone of the forum for the past year or so. Which is why I am urging everyone to stop engaging with certain folks that are belittling their opinions otherwise this will never end.

Someone find Michiru the world's smallest violin...

Anyway, I hope these new illustrations get properly scanned (if not, ideally, officially released) since this magazine is apparently not for sale. (Though if it's exclusive to Japan, it probably will never get scanned *cries*).

Also, we should be getting the next two volumes of the color manga next month or the month after (if they follow the pattern of releasing an arc every summer), which means we should hopefully be seeing new artwork for the cover of volume 6 (I'm guessing Chibi Moon?)

I really like these pictures, they all look so happy and it's nice to see. But the comments on the tweet say that these are unofficial cards from TaoBao. Do you if they're taken from another work by Takeuchi or if they're fanart?
the cards may be unofficial but the art is from Naoko herself. idk whre did they get the full art tho

it seems they used the corrected art (on the new cards) that was also used on some new folders for the 30th anniversary

I think it brings things full circle for her work. Many of her characters wore haute couture from renowned designers in her manga story, and now her characters are wearing it to promote a fashion house. I think that's cool.

I also fear it won't get scanned. I read on Twitter that you could buy the 31 rue Cambon magazine on auction sites but I didn't find the issue with this collaboration, only older ones that range from 20 to 70 USD. I don't know if Takeuchi's collaboration will increase the price of this particular issue, but it seems there's at least hope a Western fan can buy it and scan it.

I would prefer if they just released the images in high quality on social media or something, but I understand that due to the nature of the collaboration that might not be possible.

Neat. I'm kind of lost with the covers for these releases, the last one had Jupiter on volume 4, right? If they follow the order they had for the original edition covers, volume 6 could have Chibi Moon on the cover, but if they follow the Eternal Edition and Naoko Takeuchi Collection covers, it could feature Sailor Uranus and Neptune.

Sorry, that you left, that's on you, and, no, you shouldn't call people out because it's just another form of bullying.
It really is. This is what I don't get about the Naoko/Crystal fans here. They take so much of their time complaining about the "negativity", trying to bully others into silence and drive them away, derailing threads in the process, but they can't spend 10 seconds to block the handful of people they know their posts always upset them and solve the "problem" once and for all? What a completely entitled and irrational behavior.

I collect prints, posters, lithographs and sometimes post cards & multiples (I believe I have one or two signed post cards, but need to have them authenticated).

Anyhow, I was browsing eBay and I found Sailor Moon prints/lithographs numbered and signed by Naoko Takeuchi herself (estimated price $600-1000 USD). I don’t collect manga, but prints that are numbered and signed by the author are a very good investment if they are real (you don’t want to be scammed). Art goes up in value. Moreover, an abstract Sailor Moon-themed painting by an American artist whose name I forgot recently got sold for over $2000. 1stDibs, I think.

I really hope they release them digitally so we can see the details better and maybe they look somewhat better when they're not on bended pages. I may have issues with them but I still like them.
I'm wondering if she may release these same poses in their Sailor costumes as well. That would be pretty.

I hope this Chanel collaboration didn’t cause her too much stress. She is a mother and a caregiver. May her husband recover soon and enjoy great health and strength.

On the other hand, this collaboration is something she would actively want to pursue because she dressed many of her characters in Chanel. All of her characters wear Chanel. Even Maria—a poor girl—carries a Chanel bag with her and wears Chanel. P-:

“Maria” is a shoujo story Naoko published in 1989. Way before “Sailor Moon.”

Apart from that I don't know how to do it (block people on this forum), but it's also an option that I don't intend to use, I like to confront myself with others, I always hope for a sincere and open comparison, but I don't want to bully anyone, I've been bullied and I know how it feels and I don't wish anyone to suffer the same treatment.

@Lady Pen

I know your tastes are different from mine, I accept that.

I'm sorry that your positive comments about Naoko and the series have been ignored, don't feel isolated because of this.

Lately I've been feeling uncomfortable reading certain comments, so many times I've been tempted to respond on the spur of the moment, but I've always held back because I didn't want to make the situation worse.

I admit that reading post after post negative things about something you like and about someone you see as a good person destabilized me, I was thinking in those moments not to comment on the forum anymore.

I like sincere comments, often especially those that go against the tide. It's how someone approach it that makes the difference.

I don't want to ignore the fact that you were treated badly, I didn't want to incite anyone against you or against others, but to share my discomfort and maybe be able to find a solution to a situation that has been going on for some time

I don't want people to feel uncomfortable talking to me or reading my posts, nor for my posts to cause harm to others.

a lot of people where i live have shoveled at me crap all my life, so much so that I could clean public toilets in worse shape without flinching. I know how it feels to feel bad for the comments of others and I don't want to make anyone else feel the same.

I hope that everything that has arisen does not ruin the permanence of anyone on this forum. I'm sorry again, and I hope we'll find a way to settle things peacefully.

Turning back on topic

oooh finally full body for this art of the outer senshi
True! it was time!!!

I hope they finally decide to release the artbooks they planned years ago.
