I might unfollow this and just pay attention to the votes, as Crystal is my favorite anime. If you dislike Crystal, I'll respect your opinion, but I might not want to hear rants about it.

The first two, I notice anime fans these days seem to prefer it to be the other way around. But I prefer it the way it is in Crystal, as for the first, original Sailor Moon imprinted on me what I expect of anime (and gave me that interest in general), and for the second, I was kinda brainwashed to dislike it when I was young and never really made the transition to getting into it.

If this starts to become too heated, then delete this.

The only aspect I dislike are the changes of format (and character designs): from ONA (seasons 1 and 2) to TV series (season 3) and from TV series to films (Eternal and Cosmos).

I think the entire reboot should have been animated in Japan with the help of Studio Deen from day 1.

In any event, I am happy because I got what I always wanted: a faithful adaptation of the manga.

Chanced a glance at this since you quoted my post, and it is a very good point that there needed to be one anime that followed the manga, as the original did not. (Though they did make a few deviations, most notably with the Four Kings but also the circumstances of Demande's death as well)

We need a book to explain all its problems because Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos is a problem in itself. From the budget, a team who don't love SM, the current Toei that doesn't understand the product (unlike old Toei) to the producers, character designs, writing, storyboards, the score, animation and so on.

I can't decide what is my least favourite aspect.

Well....
Crystal season 1 and 2: the chara of the first seasons being a subpar imitation of Naoko's style(the lipsitck was a nice touch though), it being a cheap ONA, the lack of comedy, the butchering of Rei's character, the addition of dumb plots like the ShitennouxSenshi; the removal of characters like Unazuki and Rei's granpa, the CGI transformation sequences, boring backgounds and music, and overall it being a bad adapation of the first manga arcs.
Crystal season 3: the only thing I truly disliked is the chara, overall though it has a very good production value.
Eternal/Cosmos: the movie format, Eternal part 1 being a total mess on pair with Crystal season 1 from a storytelling point of view, the lack of lipsitck for Galaxia(lol) , Sailor Cosmos being Usagi's future form instead of a future reincarnation and Michiru not having long hair.

I really don‘t understand how Eternal managed to be still so bad after all the negative critique for S1-3. When you restart a reboot for a third time, you really should have made your homework and learned your lesson. The biggest hope for Eternal was a better storytelling. And it failed terribly.

Each arc could be condensed in standalone 120min anime films, if you hire good writers. who use the narrative tools well. Toei could make those 5 movies, high budget, good animation, worldwide theatrical release. It would work.

I used to think it was the uninspired animation, but even if that was bad (which it was 80% of the time, let’s just be real) I can appreciate other things like the storyboarding, writing and originality.. but the reboot lacks any of these things.

Before Crystal I was of the opinion that the 90’s anime was flawed and a reboot could really make a definitive experience, perhaps in the same way HunterxHunter did.. but really all it did was reaffirm my love for the 99’s anime, flaws and all. So I guess that’s a positive?

Let’s be honest, the CCS sequel, Tokyo Mew Mew Reboot, etc have all been pretty bland. Crystal being the worst of the bunch. It’s a very ‘Will this do?’ attitude to it all. It all just screams quick nostalgia cash grab while the nostalgia is still there. Season 3 had shown glimpses of promise in its storyboarding and a slightly more creative approach in its adaptation but for ~whatever~ reason was completely absent in Eternal and to a lesser extent ( I suppose) Cosmos.

Even SuperS, the weakest season full of filler, they’re really no competition in terms of emotional depth of the characters or the use of shots, quality of the music, voice acting, storyboarding, etc.

Just because something is ‘newer’ doesn’t mean it better. Advances in technology don’t mean anything if there aren’t talented people behind it.

I notice that "faster-paced" has a lot of votes now. To each their own, but faster-paced means it is easier to rewatch, especially since the world is coming to an end (in ways that would make being destroyed by Wiseman or Pharaoh 90 seem merciful) and I don't know how much time we have left. Even if it wasn't, it would still take so much longer to rewatch original Sailor Moon from beginning to end.

Of course, quality matters too, and while I respect your opinions (though won't read some of them in too much detail) I think that is high as well and it is my favorite anime. (Not perfect though)

I am, however, quite surprised that the first two answers still have no votes, since most peaple (unlike me) like their animes to be the opposite of what Crystal does on both counts. Crystal came out in the 2010's but is formatted like a 90's or 2000's anime, which is my kind of anime.

The first episodes of the CCS new anime were a bit boring, slow-paced, supernatural events happening and not much story to tell, but it got better by the middle of the first season and then it ended abruptly when the mysteries started being revealed (cliffhanger episode).

I liked it and I look forward to watching the 2nd season.

I'm absolutely in favor of Crystal being faster-paced than the original anime. The endless filler hurt the original show more often than it helped, IMO.

However, Crystal goes too far in the other direction too much of the time. Nothing's given time to breathe. It's not a big deal in a lot of the episodes, but the movies suffer badly from it. I wish they would have deviated just a *little* from the 1:1 chapter-> episode format. Maybe make it like, 1->1.25 on average. Just give us an extra scene or two where recent events can sink in and we can see what the senshi are thinking and feeling (beyond Usagi).

The original manga's pacing problems are to blame here, but I think pacing is a lot more forgivable in a manga, as you can take it at any pace you want. Read a few panels and take a break. Really study the art in panels where it's important. Etc.

These videos say it all.

SuperS - When a production team knows what they're doing despite imposed restrictions.
Eternal - When nobody, not even the franchise's creators, cares in the slightest about what they're producing.

For a moment I ignored Lady Pen, but decided to unignore as it might have been a bit extreme just because we feel the polar opposites about Crystal, and to be fair this is the Crystal dislike thread, not the Crystal appreciation thread. I mention this because I just noticed what her signature says, as if she expected it.

Just noticed the Unwatch button. That's that, and I'll keep an eye on the poll results.

I have no issue with Crystal being manga-based, but I'd assumed it would have touched up on some of the manga's issues. At the very least, it should have animated the side stories.
What side stories?

(Yes, by posting my previous reply I undid the Unwatch. I will Unwatch again, so please hit the Reply button to my comment for your reply so I pick it up)

There were ten short stores, four of which were covered in the original anime (in one movie, one short before a movie, one part of a TV special and one TV episode) and one was referenced in PGSM.
