I'm pretty sure the original wasn't like that. It was just squished in that video to make it look like it was 4:3

Its not a circle its all squished or stretched. The squished water ball matches up with crystals. ..... that's kinda odd

I recently discovered Kazuko Tadano did some concept for Reika that wasn't used in the anime. Kiyoshi Matsumoto (animation director for episode 29) drew his own design for Reika, which the anime staff used for her two other appearances.
