Sailor Moon and Wedding Peach

This is just a thread pertaining to the anime Wedding Peach ,and how similar and different it is from Sailor Moon. Also, just another thought, what kind of arcs would you have loved to see if Wedding Peach five seasons like Sailor Moon? Personally,I would like to see an arc like the black Moon or the Infinity arc in Wedding Peach.

I liked where it was going especially the last episode of the OVA where there are demons and evil spirits they were fighting.

Wedding Peach is very similar to Sailor Moon. The main character Momoko has nearly the same personality as Usagi and her love interest Yuusuke even has a similar personality to Mamoru except less mature. The two even start out fighting and teasing each other before they get together. Not only that but there is a forbidden love angle as Momoko is half human and half angel and Yusuke is half human and half demon. Plus the show actually came out in 1994 the same year Sailor Moon S was airing.

I've wanted to check out this show for a while now. The general consensus is that Wedding Peach is nothing more than a Sailor Moon ripoff, but I want to see if it's worth watching on its own merits. I do have one question though; should I watch the regular anime or the OVA? The show seems to be pretty cheap and easy to get a hold of, so that makes it an ideal choice already. However, I've heard that the OVA is geared a bit more towards guys than the regular series and it has more fanservice, which I don't mind TBH . The problem with the OVA is that it's pretty impossible to find on DVD, though I think it's on Youtube. Of course, if I need to understand the plot of the anime before I watch the OVA, then the choice is pretty obvious.

OVA has superior quality animation and better written.

About the fanservice there's barely any. May be because the first OVA's setting is on the beach plus the MOTD is kinda hentai-ish . The rest weren't anymore.

So if you're looking for quality go with the OVA. If you're looking for something just to kill time and get to know the characters go with the regular series. There's a couple of episodes that stand out like the mecha/Power Rangers parody episode however I lean towards the OVA.

Wedding peach ran WAAYYY too long. The main plot line is good but there are so many fillers. And the fillers are not as fun as Sailor Moon. Watch the main series for the plot, by yes the OVAs have superior animation quality.

I like Wedding Peach a lot better than Sailor Moon. The themes were a lot more spiritual and less superhero. It is also racier than Sailor Moon, especially the OVA. The OVA is a sequel to the show, the Love Angels regain their memories from the original series to fight new enemies Unfortunately it's ADV and thus out of print, but you can find them on eBay.

Finding them on eBay is a bit of a hassle, and you have to be careful. There are 10 individual discs (9+OVA), and then the discs were later repackaged into "Season 1 Collection" and "Season 2 Collection" plastic box sets. I strongly recommend you go for the plastic box sets, as you can easily wind up with duplicates or loss of continuity.

This is also true of the manga. The manga is by Viz but is also out of print. There are 6 volumes of the Wedding Peach manga, plus a seventh called "Wedding Peach: Young Love". (I'm currently reading Volume 3.)

The music is also really good, the music and Japanese voice actresses are a 90s girl band there called Furil. Furil released a number of Wedding Peach "soundtrack" CDs, not familiar with them but the songs on the show are really nice and catchy. You can also find an animated segment from their concert on YouTube.

Either way, do see the show if you haven't. It's extremely underrated.

I've only seen a few episodes of Wedding Peach but I enjoyed what I saw of it and I think fans make too big of a deal about the Sailor Moon similarities. These are more archetypes of the magical girl genre to me than out right ripping off Sailor Moon. You could make the same comparisons with other magical girl shows like Tokyo Mew Mew. I personally love Wedding Peach for the cute costumes and over the top transformations and I personally feel like Wedding Peach is a bit more faster paced than Sailor Moon.

Okay, I have all of the DVDs except for vol. 5, 9, and the OVA. I got most of the DVDs for a dollar at a library sale, so I can't really complain. I'm looking forward to giving the show a watch, though I wish that I could find an cheap copy of the OVA.

I just watched the first episode. Well, I think it needs to grow on me first, but one thing I have to point out is that the English voices aren't that great. It really reminds me of the DiC dub of SM to be honest, and even Hinagiku's voice sounded eerily similar to Molly's Brooklyn accent. Maybe it's just me though.

I have seen a few episodes of "Wedding Peach" and the OVA.

I thought "Wedding Peach" felt closer to "Sailor Moon," whereas the OVA was a bit... strange.

Well it was created to follow the successful Sailor Moon formula. It also had Kazuko Tadano as chara designer. It was not a bad show per se, but I have a feeling it took the worst from Sailor Moon like the yiring mobster of the day, which was perpetual, the bickering main ship, the whiny main character without all the facettes that Usagi developped and brought nothing new to the table. At least visually it was on the same level.
