They literally put out a clip show for Episode 89. Not a filler episode a la dinosaur but a freakin' clip show! That just how overloaded they were!
I don't think I've ever seen an anime do that. Hokuto no Ken had filler episodes from Ep.78-82 but it was still the characters remembering stuff, not just voice-overs :P
Utena and KareKano had that sort of clip show episode. If I'm not wrong 3 episodes each!!

I remember that when I was a teenager and Yu-Gi-Oh! was airing on TV and how pissed off we all would be when the episode would turn out to be a recap one :P
We'd be like, 'Well, there goes today! Let's hope there's a new episode tomorrow with some actual new stuff!"

I remember a bunch of other animes of the era doing the recap eps.

The sequels after the OG YGO stopped doing it (because they were original stories) but Vrains, which had a disastrous production, abused this.
I remember we had like 2 recap episodes in the span of only 10 episodes and the young-ins were not loving it at all! :rofl:

"Long ago, I lived alone on a planet with nothing but the sea."

"After having lived in loneliness for an eternity, I ended up wanting to have companions."

Am I the only one who thinks this look like Itoh?

"I loved them and they gave their upmost love in return as well. We lived in perfect harmony, it was the happiest of our times."

"However with time, they became intelligent and started to fight among themselves for my energy. And with that, their respect for me disappeared and anger, hatred and vice completely possessed their minds."

"I still believed in them... I dreamt that there would come one day when we would return to our happier days... however, in their foolish escalation of their infighting, they ended up destroying their very own planet!"

"Those who survived wandered the corners of the universe with me. We came across numerous planets yet we couldn't find one to welcome us. Their numbers kept dwindling and only 2 survived, Ail and An. Only you 2 were left. You poor souls who knew nothing of sincere love and who could only rely on forcing dominance on others."

I despise recaps. Especially when they come unannounced. They still do this in anime.
Mashle season 1, which has 13 episodes, has a recap for episode 7.
Seven episodes deep in an anime that isn't catching up to the manga at all is crazy. I can only imagine they were trying to stay weekly and fell behind in production or something.
The one thing worse than a recap episode has to be when they sprinkle small clips of new stuff throughout, so you have to at least skim it so you don't miss anything.

The Sailor Moon recap is awful, but back in the day I remember being excited because it showed an evil adult Molly and Melvin(?!) plus two new shadowy Sailors. And then...no new episodes for years.
It's kind of surprising we didn't have more recap episodes in Sailor Moon. Was there really only 1? Plus the specials.
One Piece has like 20 over a thousand episodes, plus entire recap movies.

Seeing some of the really beautiful examples of what Andoh was capable of, I have to wonder ; why was his style allowed to be SO off model when he was proven to be able to mimic the original Tadano designs very well?

His work on Crescent Beam for instance - was this checked by Tadano or something for continuity with character design sheets? It’s obvious they did not let him alter the face designs to suit his usual style. It’s very much ‘on model’. Her face looks nothing like what he would put in an episode he was directing.

It seems as though he was 100% capable of following the design aesthetic and even in some instances made it more beautiful . Curious if the character designer had final say on many of the key sequences / checking. It’s baffling to see him produce gorgeous on model art but then direct episodes that look like they aren’t the same show.

"After the conclusive battle against Queen Beryl met it's end, Mamoru Chiba lost his memories. However... no matter what... the strong desire to protect Sailor Moon, more precisely to protect Usagi Tsukino, the girl he loved, still remained.
This dormant desire of his started to have a life of it's own and created the Moonlight Knight, in other words, his shadow.
He would act only during times when you were in danger."

"However my role is now over. Chiba Mamoru, who has responded to your earnest love, will become one with me and will now walk alongside you sharing the same future. Adieu!"

Another inconsistency. If the tree could talk, why didn't it tell Ail & An what it really wanted earlier? :siren:

The tree actually does answer this right after revealing it's origins saying it left itself die as a sign to hopefully teach Ail and An to have compassion.
We can only theorize that it got depressed over the years and remained silent/numb over the atrocities it witnessed Ail and An do.
It's interesting that it's after having sucked Usagi's energy that it went berserk.

What I wanna know is why it's called the Demon Tree when it seems to be a benevolent one who knows about love and warmth.
It mentions they visited several planets, did the survivors wreak havoc over there and this is what got it this name?

Fiore is definitely from the same species so if we take into account that in the timeline of the R movie (that if I'm not mistaken cannot be inserted into the 90s anime and hence is non-canon), did Fiore wander off and was stranded into the universe?

That one guy who went out for a stroll with his dog, "What the heck?! What happened to my luxury apartment? I already paid 2 months advance with deposit?!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!"

The Makaiju arc is an underappreciated arc, which contains some sound ideas. The backstory of the Makaiju also feels pretty Biblical. A story is good if it can make its audience/readers really care about its characters, protagonists & antagonists alike, & the arc, & the 90s anime by & large, have successfully done that. :)

You guys still remember when we discovered they copy pasted the manga panels for the story board of Eternal and even screenshot from Youtube vids for the stocks and some people believed, "Storyboard is not important, every one can just copy from the manga?"

"You've recovered your memories, haven't you... You've got your memory back!"

It's such a good finale! :wow:

:minako::"What show-offs!"
:ami:: "I'm so jealous!"
:mako:: "I must get myself a boyfriend too!"
:rei:: "Someone like Mamoru-san would be good!~"
:usagi:: "You can't!"
:minako::rei::ami::mako:: "Just joking!"

I must say the French version is HILARIOUS!,
:minako:: "Lucky girl!"
:ami:: "You're got a dream catch!"
:mako:: "I hope I can catch one too!"
:ami:: "You've got no brother?"
:rei:: "You lend him to me?"
:usagi::"No way, he's mine!"
:minako::rei::ami::mako::"We know!"

Chiaki Kon is director of the new Precure series and right from the Opening, she's showing to be a filthy fangirl :kiss:

Kon being a filthy Saint Seiya and Sailor Moon fan over her works at Toei Animation:

Sailor Moon Classic finale vs Happiness Charge! Precure movie finale:

Pegasus Fantasy Roll Call:

Sailor Moon Crystal III & Eternal:

Idol Precure (2025):

Soldier Dream's Naruto Run:

Present on all 3 Magical Girls productions:

Soldier's Dream Group Pose vs SMC III Group Pose:

If she was allowed to do her job and actually direct and correct the story of Dream, we could have had the best Sailor Moon movie (possibly even surpassing the R one, because that's just how capable of a director she is) but oh well, the manga is sacred.

Cure Idol has a lot and lot of references to the OG Moon Prism henshin!
The key animator is said to be Yoshida Kousuke and we don't know who storyboarded the sequence but it's no mystery that Kon was the one who pushed for Sailor Moon references.
I wonder if the other henshins will have references to the Inners.

Magic nail polish:

360 rotation with hair magic:

Brooch Cloth magic:

Gloves and Boots magic:

Magic on the forehead:

Final Pose, notice the same kind of hand jiggles:

Full sequence:

The 90s anime always nailed the funny moments!

The face of a terror!

Iconic moment!

Remember when they turned her into an adult ugly Barbie face in Crystal? Arg!

This shot is hilarious! Mamoru's expression, Chibi-Usa's posture, it's so weird 80s anime aesthetic!

I loved Luna-P, I wish it was an actual thing in the series...

"Watashi wa Usagi yo!"

"If you're Usagi Tsukino, then you have it, haven't you? Well, then hand over the Silver Crystal to me!"

"If you move, this girl dies!" (Lol, Chibi-Usa!)

:chibiusa:: It's no use playing dumb. Because I already know you possess the Silver Crystal.
:usagi:: I've got no idea what you're talking about. Playing around with a toy gun now... if I don't know something, well I don't know something ~
:chibiusa:: Really ~ You're gonna play dumb till the end, huh? Then...!

Good Lord, she was a real brat from the very beginning!
