If they attempted this in Crystal I don't even wanna imagine the distorted faces. Also, if they pulled it off, there went the budget for the next season or movie.
You are making me nostalgic for the Nehelennia arc. It felt like what the series should have been all along and how it should have continued...
...more school life drama with other students, more hanging out and discussing the enemies at Rei's, and more mysteries like the mirror thing. There were several MOD plots that could have been expanded to multi episode arcs like this, Dandadan style.
If SM ever gets lucky(?) enough to have another reboot/revival...they should definitely focus on this sort of thing more. As a fan of the monsters in season 1 and 2...they started dropping off in s3 and really nosedived by Stars, but I believe the writers and artists really had some great concepts when they were allowed to focus on one mini arc at a time.
Totally!
This is what made Sailor Moon and what is so 'nostalgic' about it.
The school drama, the girls being girls and doing teenage things (going to an anime studio to get autographs, getting into a contest to get money, spying on your best friend's first date, going to the local hair salon that has a promo campaign because we're feeling down), meetings at the Hikawa Shrine to discuss about the enemy (Rei providing predictions, Ami and Minako being a duo with Minako providing pointers to Ami on where to investigate etc...). There is so much potential!
Honestly, Toei should have simply done a sequel/reboot a la Saint Seiya Omega for the revival.
Perhaps in the likes of that fake with Chibi-Usa and Hotaru and the girls' kids (a la Parallel Sailor Moon) having their own adventures. This could have easily been an entertaining 50-something episode anniversary series.
Then, they could have followed with sporadic movie releases (like with Dragon Ball). Perhaps one re-imagination of the manga's Dark Kingdom arc. Later a sequel to the 90s anime that takes place as the girls are graduating.
And in 2025/26, for the franchise's 35th anniversary, it would have been the perfect time for a 90s anime remake in the likes of Ranma 1/2 or Jigoku Sensei Nube that we are seeing happening.
Instead of a very lackluster, forgettable and disastrous adaptation that ran for a decade.
A very beautiful Ami!
"I was thinking..."
"What is it, Rei-chan?"
"That disease they speak of, could it be somehow linked to mirrors?"
I really wished we had more scenes like these. We used to have them a lot during Classic and R...
"Be it the incident of my shrine's sacred mirror or be it the true form of the demons we fought the other day...recently, there has been too many cases surrounding mirrors!"
"You're right!"
"Now that you say it, it's true..."
