I have always adored usagi’s room! It’s so cute, charming and welcoming, and I love her comforter set. I have always in someways tried to incoperate that in my decor as well.

Seriously the background and how they color and stylize it in the orginal anime is just so breathtaking and romantic and so magical. I haven’t ever seen anything like that before or after. I wish I could just be in those settings in the sailor moon world at sunset on the back of a guys motorbike. Hopefully to not get attacked

The color of Usagi's room in Crystal 1/2 is one of my biggest complaints about those two seasons honestly.



I mean, the furniture and accessories look cute and all but
WHAT DID THEY DO TO THE COLORS!!! :wry::wry::wry:

I think SuperS is a really good place to look for interesting backgrounds


Tnis one caught me off guard in the artist episode.


This one also caught me off guard. it looks lime it retains more detail than most of the series

I wasn't the biggest fan of crystal 1/2's backgrounds but did like this shot




And I think Sailor Moon's colors look pretty nice in night scenes.

I also always loved it. Anyone who knows more about shoujo anime can say if those detailed backgrounds with bright colors was a staple on shoujo anime, or was it an aesthetic adopted mostly by Sailor Moon, or by anime produced at Toei? Because I don't remember shounen anime from the same era like Evangelion looking this pretty on the background. Even Cardcaptor Sakura had pretty but bland backgrounds (in this case, certainly because the story itself was more appealing than the visuals).

I think a lot of Sailor Moon's staying power definitely comes from the a e s t h e t i c, especially how it became viral during the vaporwave years.

The openings and endings have tons of things to observe. I think I already talked about the Russian/abstract architecture in the 1st intro, but I also like when use a bunch of words to fill part of the screen. I wonder what the text belonged to or if we're even supposed to read it. Shows around this time were taking advantage of new technology allowing you to pause what you're watching. At the same time TVs were at a lower resolution so the words would probably be too blurry.



I saw it in Boys Over Flowers and just loved how it looked for some reason. Can't get enough of that intro.

I still think S had the best dark mood settings. There's the Death Busters Laboratory, the outside while the Sailors were facing the bare Daimons, The Cathedral. I wanna talk about the cathedral. The sharp contrast in black to the bright colorful windows. Can't get enough of that!


The dark rooms made other light sources pop out even more than usual. This made things like fires feel even more intense.


Then there's this part! I just.....




I loved how it gave us different cooler colored shadows for the girls. Venus has this green thing going on

SuperS backgrounds are unbeatable. So gorgeous, so impeccable.

I love some of the analogue light effects looked like watercolour:



The colour palette...



It reminds me of those european fairy tale books from the XIX century. ::love::

OMG this is gorgeous. The Dark Kingdom had so many mysterious places in the 90s anime. That random castle in Crystal …


I also LOVE the red abyss that opens up when Sailor Uranus smashes her “world shaking” energy sphere into the ground. So good!!!
