Why is that trailer so lazy? For Eternal, they made one that really hyped me, with all the different languages, addressed to all fans worldwide. This one has even the japanese text!

Interesting that the german version didn‘t have to use „warrior of destruction“…
Does Germany still call (the show) Sailor Moon "Das Mädchen mit den Zauberkräften"

mh i dont think they try to call galaxia by another name because of saturn been the guardian of destruction
mh but if i remember right saturn said she is the guardian of silence, but yeah they could said guerrera de la destruccion
and i dont like much the name of some translated attacks or transformation phrases
we have in sailor moon s and now with the reboot and new dub inconsistency
mh in sailor moon s when she transformed in super sailor moon she said metamorfosis
but in super s when she transform whit chibusa they said doble poder cosmico lunar
wasnt better they said doble metamorfosis lunar ?
i dont know who decide the name of the attacks but o.o WTF
i think in the new manga edition they translate the attacks
now i wonder how they will translate outer senshi new attacks

I'm hearing rumors Naoko imposed her "Engrish" for all attack and transformation phrases in dubs, creating inconsistency even with Eternal translations...
So, if this is proven true, forget all previous translations Naoko approved herself.
So they all are gonna be bilinguals for whatever reason:googly:.

You know, I just remembered seeing a post by @Memento saying that Osamu either didn't do his job as an editor or he actually did and Naoko's an even worse mangaka than we imagine. This kind of interference in the localisations makes me lean towards the latter. It makes absolutely no sense business-wise to keep imposing foreign words and honorifics. I understand making sure translations are faithful, but this is simply preventing people from doing their jobs properly and making it harder for the work to be accessible to a wider audience. If this is the kind of thing she stands up for, I can only imagine how much worse things could have gotten in the 90s...

All the seemingly odd things we're seeing now from her is stuff she had always been obsessed with, but didn't have the power to implement or control. I'm just grateful she wasn't able to pull these kind of stunts in the '90s... Sailor Moon would have never become a global phenomenon with her brilliant creative and business ideas.

That is because Naoko's business partners allow her to be like that, similar to Bandai funding an anime adaptation of CLAMP Campus Detectives when it was unfinished between MKR and Card Captor Sakura.

Afterwards, it's rumors... How many people have started rumors about Sailor Moon Cosmos lately? Between an Italian page, a Thai page, which said that the films were going to be released on December 31, 2023 on Netflix… Afterwards it said, it's for January, and so on... While these pages knew absolutely nothing in the end.

The best is to have confirmation from a person who works for Netflix or who is close to the license such as a translator / adapter, dubbing actors.

What's the point of translating, adapting and dubbing, then? :googly: What's next??

If Naoko had total control in the 90's many people would be fans of Ranma, Dragon Ball or another anime from back then. Sailor Moon would've been forgotten.

Outside of America because nobody here is talking.

Look at Eternal, when the scriptwriter announced her part in that dub, she limited her responses only to people she's following and this is the same person who worked on Viz's Crystal dub which had no such issues.

I mean, imposing the use of their english names for the attacks/transformations formulas is probably the only sensitive idea PNP had in a while. Back then it made sense to translate them(children needed to understand and then repeat what the Senshis were saying while attacking/transformating) but now? Kids are not the target of SM anymore and even if they still were, nowdays most children understand english. So just use the original names(just like the orignal japanese names are used for the characters)

I remember a few shonen anime like Dragon Ball, YuYu Hakusho and Saint Seiya were very inconsistent when to translate attack names. A few were translated in the portuguese dub, while others were still pronounced either in japanese or english (with a strong portuguese accent).

Sailor Moon's pretty much the exception, in which they translated everything. The brazilian dub for Eternal translated the attacks pretty much the same as they were in SuperS. It'd be lame if they did the same to Cosmos though, as there's things like Star Gentle Uterus translated as 'Sailor Maker's Star'. :|

Back in the day, IIRC, Sailor Moon's Moon Princess Halation had nine different translations over the course of Sailor Moon R... :dead:

Back then it made sense to translate them(children needed to understand and then repeat what they Senshis were staying while attacking/transformating) but now? Kids are not the target of SM anymore and even if they still were, nowdays most children understand english. Demanding consistency on how attacks are adapted (if at all) indeed makes sense, it's the honorifics and things like "warrior of destruction" that make us flinch.

Those make me flinch too.(the warrior of destruction thing is so cringey that I am afraid I won't be able to take this dub seriously).

First of, no, most children in non-English-speaking countries don't understand English. Secondly, even if the target demographic is adults that doesn't make it OK to not provide them with a proper translation. :googly: The mess of the Eternal/Cosmos dubbing and subtitling violates like every principle of the translation field. No professional translator, no matter how much of a weeb they were, would do such a thing left to their own devices. This nonsense is solely caused by Naoko's ignorance and stubbornness and deserves to get 100% the blame for it.

Dubbing must be understandable without doing research afterwards. It's like a subtitled version, it must be understood immediately.

For me, it would have been more judicious to translate all the English terms, or even for certain attacks to make another adaptation.

Even if I'm not a fan of Kazé France's work for season 5, Star Maker's attack was well formulated without using the word "uterus" (matrice éthéré, attaque).

Really? Which pages? I completely missed those "news". Btw italian pages are insane, they are full of people still complaining of the new dub... after ten forkin years! Plz give me a break and deal with it.
