The same thing happens to Sakou's design in SMC1-2. If you look carefully at Act 19, you will see there is no reflection in Queen's eye. However, most of the episodes she appears in were done by Akira, so he changed the design by adding more light to it (Act 10, 14, SMC3).
Yep is not an error since thats how she looks from source (manga) but she doesnt look as good as in the manga

BTW, ESM's wings look like sharp blades - can't wait to see her using those blades to slash her enemies during aerial combats in the movies. 
They are not baaaaaad but considering they are supposedly done by Tadano, we should expect higher quality or at least something that looks like the designs she did herself.
Moon and Venus face are off model, Uranus and Neptune are meh (Tadano never got Michiru’s hair right). Only Pluto’s face seems quite okay (considering she is most of the time badly drawn).
I understand than an artist changes his style during his career but Tadano is character designer so she should be able to have a consistent style for a projet that last 3-4 years. She is a veteran and she draws character so differently each time that we are not even able to be sure she draws something (like the various Eternal posters).

yep i saw on another twitter thread comparing her work on eternal with her other projects and this merch art has all her art traits

Especially considering she is the original character designer for the series - everyone, including Itou adhered to her original style so it is presumed she could draw these characters without much effort - she came up with this different eye shape gimmick after all...

I think she simply isn't putting love on Sailor Moon anymore. And that's getting in the way of her work.
Let's be honest: not every major artist from the 90s anime glorifies having worked on it. What's the last time we have heard from Itoh? Even that merch art guy (guess Youichi Fukano was his name?) came forward about his involvement more times than her.
I wonder if the work conditions faced by them at Toei in the 90s do play a factor on this.

I think there is something going on at Toei - we have 3 designers that are top tier animators and the three of them are inconsistent with this one project. I guess everything is very rushed and badly managed NOW. Regardless of their specific styles Sakou, Takahashi and Tadano are top animators and yet they alll flop with Sailor Moon and pale compared to fanartists....
