Some comparison between Yukie and Tadano settei for Mamoru

Yukie's main problem is the head being too big tbh
I did a quick fix in photoshop and it looks kinda good

Also, fun fact it seems Yukie never retracted or fixed her art in digital, you can see all was drawn with pencils and then scanned.
Both good look IMO.
Yukie has an early shoujo/yaoi aspect with the proportions, and that doesn't bothers me because its reminiscent of Naoko's style.
I can't say the same about the sailor soldiers, though. Other than Jupiter, who has a really nice hair, they look downright ugly to me even in character designs. Usagi's iconic bunhead hairstyle lost all its shine IMO.

Yep, her style is very old style yaoi tbh
Now, even though I love her designs, the proportions are not good and the hair is too much that it makes their head looks too big.
She nailed Mars and specially Jupiter's high ponytail and hair (Tadano draws it too small tbh). Venus looks so good in some merch art (Moon Pride cover and that group first key art).

somehow mercury always looks good in any style lmao

The only problem I see is his neck. Yukie can't keep the thickness of his neck consistently.

Tadano’s Mamo-chan looks more polished, but a mix between Sakou and Tadano would be the best. Could anyone try to blend them?

thats settei from season 2 used for the movies. She designed the compact for act 26.
edit: from crystal vol 13 booklet
i don't grasp the concept of settei fully, but does that have with do with certain frames from Eternal that feel like a blend of Akira and Tadano's designs?
I think there's a group shot of the girls holding their transformation items that look a lot like S3. Especially their eyes.

idk maybe bandai asked toei for the kaleidoscope concept art so they could produce a proto of the proplica and tadano didnt have the final setteis ready
well the henshis were retraced from season 3 (example mars looks the same but with different hair shape and eyes)

I meant the shot reminded me of S3, not necessarily their items. But I think there was indeed an inconsistency with their items now you mentioned it.

oh idk someone who just was used to the previous art style did it lol (or maybe takahashi himself since her work for s1/s2 was not like the settei at all :ninja:[/jk])

also yeah, they used the same design for moon's brooch and spiral heart moon rod:

but the girl's are rounded shape toy-like in season 3 compared to season 2

Does this means Yukie got to work on S3? She's holding the Moon Cosmic Compact.
This reminds me there's early S promotional art that looks way closer to Tadano than to Itoh, and it's genuine enough to make me think she actually got to work on the season's development.
The cosmic heart appears in the last episode of Crystal S2 that's why it's there.

I think it’s because some animators kept drawing profiles just as they did in S3 minus the bubbles.

My biggest problem with the initial Mamo design shared here is how his face features are so cramped. I guess that's what y'all are referring to as 'early yaoi' style?

The image of Mako just makes me sad. Her face never quite looked right, and the proportions were always a little lanky/odd, but her hair! Her expression! The actual flowy depth to the skirt instead of a straight-on flat shot with no sense of dimension... Sigh. She looked nice. Then Eternal comes along and she looks flat as a pancake with the terrible shading in her sequences... bleh.

The artist added them in the wrong place though, they are meant to cover the shoulders. lol
Of course, but as I've said, it might be added only at the very last moment, hence that'd be the most convenient & time-saving way to add. :P

I always like reading settei, & it reminds me of those bulky anime settei books published by movic. :)

btw i will making comparisons from the settei

bonus hair p*rno:

idk if I should include season 3 since I don't like the style the settei from takahashi has the same ._. expression for all the characters but from different angles, compared to tadano who it seems she seems based from yukie's settei expressions

It's me or Mamo's face looks different between Eternal 1 and 2? In the latter movie, his face seems more pointy.
If there's any character that's hard to draw, it would be Mamoru.

Seems like the hardest character to draw is Moon, followed by Muh…Mars.
