No, they did. They are little to nothing like the manga.Just because they were popular .Dosent mean they didn't need to be redapted.
The 3 original seasons are a work of art in their own. Sure they are very different from the manga and their main story is probably less developped than the manga. But it created what is the series now, and it had an emotional and cultural impact that is yet to be seen from the manga (inner deathes in S1, Nephrite death, épisodes 110-111-124-125). Maybe the anime story misses some interesting points from the manga, I agree, but it’s still a vastly superior work, both graphically and from a storytelling point of view.

That does not matter! My point isn't rather the 90s anime good or not., It was too different for a manga adaption..I wouldn't consider the 90s anime art. That it's your opinion that it's better.

You got your manga adaptation 1:1 with manga-ish design with Crystal S1-2 so what are you complaining about ? It was a disaster and it proves 25 years later that it wasn’t a bad thing they didn’t totally follow the manga at that time. What they created is far from perfect but still vastly superior to the manga (for classic/R/S at least).

I may add, if for you CrystalS1-2 is a piece of art and 90´s animes 3 first seasons are not, you may have a wrong idea of what art as a whole is.

This is very condescending.I prefer crystal, and the manga.I never thought it was perfect, or art .No Crystal was not disaster , because it would not have continued.Art is on the eyes of beholder, and it's matter of opinion.

My point was simple replying to the person above.Who thought sailor moon could been kai situation. But it wouldn't work, because it was too different from the source material.I am grateful for Crystal.Im glad we have a closer adaption of the manga .I read as a girl.

I’m sorry that I offended you and that was not the point but I’m kinda fed up with manga and Crystal fans trashing the original anime every days, whereas manga would have ended after arc 1 if anime didn’t exist at that time. I like the manga and it deserves its good adaptation, but it has in my view many much more flaws than the anime, which created the foundations of the series and enabled it to be financially viable.

I think the problem is you have the same 90s fan.Who bash on Crystal, and the manga. So now we have fans bickering back and forth.I wasn't trying to bash the 90s anime .Flaws are mater of opinion. To me none of them are perfect .Without the manga they would have not abeen 90 s anime.I think all versions of sailor moon are important to the franchise.I think fans need to accept more peoples views, and more understanding to those they do not agree with.

Just my personal view but I think its more the classic anime fans who destroyed from the beginning Crystal reputation and that even before it starts. Like the same fans did when PGSM went out. Nothing specific with Sailor Moon, all fans are always the worst in each domains.

call me easy bitch I’m fan of all versions ::love::::love:::rofl:But every versions has their low for sure !

but you re absolutely 10000% right . Without the classic anime there will no Sailor Moon. It’s all started with it PERIOD. Without it Manga would have never been noticed and would have stopped probably after very few volumes.

I think if they don't want to tarnish the franchise the next retelling should be something completely original.
To be fair i think there shouldnt be any more retellings at least under Toeis wings but of its Toei then i think the best would be to mix both worlds and create something new.

I wouldnt mind something unique but if we're talking retelling specifically i cant think of anything that could work and wouldnt lose the spirit of SM

I don't think they ever going to used the 90s anime as source.A new retelling would use the manga ad inspiration, but they would use the anime for style.Maybe add filler episodes, .But plot point such as nephritis x naru.Rainbow Crystals, break up arc.Rei and Usagi rivalry probably will never happen again.

I think a spin off, or just something inspired by it would be better. I agree there were stuff they could have done better to do a nice combo. Like 26 episodes per story arc, following the manga overall story, adding stuff from the 90s show, like Naru and Nephrite, the sisters in black moon, Esmeralda story, the messiah of silence imagery and idea, stuff like these. BBut another retelling of the same stories would be redundant. We can all agree the manga adaptation in this way was lazy, but we now have that. It is better if they go in a different direction, mix arcs together, while adding something new. The monster of the day formula is tiring as well.

90s anime fans look exactly the same... They accept nothing but the 90s version. 90s Sailor Moon is dear to me, but the manga needed its adaptation.
I totally agree, even if I favor the 90's anime. Takeuchi deserves her manga to be adaptaded (more) faithfully. But it's too bad that, as much as she wanted to be more involved with the 90,'s anime, she doesn't try to involve herself in Crystal/Eternal creating new elements, expanding ideas. It's weird that she is just satisfied with a 1:1 adaptation, whereas she could enhance her work, and that wouldn't be a lot of work honnestly.
And as a director, I'm not sure it's very interesting for Kon to do a 1:1 adaptation without making some changes (it must be a little boring to not really have creative freemdom ?) but anyway she is still good at doing this, so I'm fine with it ^^

Maybe she was out of choice. I mean she is a business woman, if they say we are interested to do that or nothing. And we have no time to wait for you come up with new ideas. There are a lot of stuff we do not know.

Oh yeah you're right, most of classic fans didn't want to see something else than Itoh style when Crystal debuted. I really love her works but I think people should be more open about other artstyles. Even if I'm not much of a fan of Sakou's style, at least they tried something else, as well as with Takahashi, it's nice to see different styles on the series.
And even if I like to trash talk about Naoko (lol), I still like her manga, and still buy every new version of the manga ^^; And I will be the first in line to buy a new artbook if she publishes one one day !

Naoko Takeuchi wrote in the notes section of the “Princess Kaguya” story that she would like to see the manga animated as it is—read it for yourself.
