From the April 1995 issue of Otomodachi:

Daimo Land >>> Infinity C Park

I also love the idea that U-Chouten was just a theme park employee doing her job in the fun house that Usagi just negatively overreacted to and annihilated her like an absolute Karen.
These comics remind me more of Western content for kids than your usual children's anime and manga.

But that Daimon's outfit is too revealing for children's books, especially the Western ones. XD
Yup honestly I think the situation is even worse at this point in the West. Honestly by modern Western standards the Sailor Senshi's outfits would be "too revealing and sexualized."

Actually, when I was rewatching the scene where Nehelenia gets redeemed in Stars, my mother was with me and mentioned: "their clothing has a lot of sexual appeal."
And she's a woman almost in her sixties. The fact that they're a bit too sexualized for teenage girls is not any news and the reason the 90s anime gave them body proportions more "grown-up" than the manga was to make it more appealing for men. The audience of this live performance of "Moon Revenge" from Christmas' 93 speaks for itself.

And I'd go even further: if Crystal kept the same body features as the old anime, it would probably be more popular. While the original anime created a pattern for the portrayal of teenage girls in the Japanese animation industry, Crystal goes against a trend the franchise itself set.

I would clarify to Masquerade that it wasn't the makers of the 90s anime that wanted the Senshi to have such sexualized proportions it was Naoko Takeuchi herself. She wanted them to look sexualized and idealized because that was what she thought was the feminine ideal and to attract men and their gaze. Because Naoko Takeuchi has been very much a pro sex feminist not the anti sex "male gaze monsters" that dominate today. Once more some girls even at the Sailor Senshi's age have these body proportions and I think it is funny the puritans now mad at these teenagers on anime for having these proportions and being sexualized but not real teens who dress and look the same way or any lewd teen drama like Riverdale or Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

It is a shame that we have moved backwards to sexual puritanism even more since the 90s. For a while we were becoming even more Liberal but then the colonists came in and well now we are about like the times of prudery of the Hayes and Comic's Codes.

I miss these days. They sound so happy and engaged. The R movie was good, so good that Moon Revenge sticks with you soon many years. Look at how excited how everyone was.

It reminds me of when Jurassic Park came out....and now we have the mess Jurassic World.

Unfortunately, some things stay in the past.
But, to be honest, despite all this mismanagement, Sailor Moon has been more lucky than most old anime properties.
I have a friend who really likes Rurouni Kenshin and is upset at the fact it never got a release with good image quality. He thinks Sailor Moon's current image quality is "impressive" compared to some vintage anime he likes.

Well in my case I have the original Viz Blu Ray and DVD box sets and quite frankly I don't think the quality is as bad as many state. I think it still looks fine. Though also I suppose I am not a expert on Hi Def none the less I have quite enjoyed watching them. I watched the first season of both the OG anime and Crystal and will watch more soon enough.

The whole scene & atmosphere of that live performance isn't much different from those of AKB48's at their exclusive theater - the former is just the 90s version of the latter. lol Pretty & attractive VAs have always been treated & acting like idols, whether back then or nowadays. :)

I look at all these activity pages with the Sailors hanging out with Ultraman and the Super Sentai (the whole Toei/Tsuburaya Productions thing isn't apparently an issue), and then there's 80's-ass Mickey (with an English-language copyright byline) on the cover not appearing in any SM-relevant pages.

A proper scanlation of Sailor Moon's debut in Tanoshii Youchien (April 1992):

Obviously the artist isn't just simply copying the characters, scenes, etc. from the anime, but has their own thoughts, designs, & interpretation of those - it's really an adaptation of the anime. :)

So Iguara...was an actual iguana? And those Chanela looked like Mew?

How can this look like a ripoff Sailor Moon vs Pokemon comic when Pokemon didn't even exist yet? Pluto, you've got some splainin' to do!
