One of the appeals of Crystal (at least to me) was that it took place in the modern world. One example was Ami playing chess on a tablet rather than a full board. I was actually wondering what other ways they could have explored this. How would a totally current setting affect Sailor Moon stories not bound by old storylines like Crystal was. I'm curious what ya'll might think about this.

They play the Sailor Moon CCG in universe (or Knights & Guardians) on their PCs, and poor Usagi wouldn't get to play because she doesn't know how to work one?

The MOTDs discover the internet (OniwaBan-tan, anyone?)

(I don't think there's a japanese equivalent to doordash except for literally ordering online at the website sooo...) one set of villains take down another set of villains during a delivery made online.

The Senshi girls & their enemies during the covid years - I do recall Rei wearing a mask in the 90s anime, tho. lol
The girls in lockdown is an interesting idea. Minako and Usagi would both probably go stir crazy. Usagi would cry that she couldn't see Mamarou, until the family is fed up with it.

Ami would probably handle it the best. She's used to being alone and has her books. Heck, she'd probably be downloading e-books or playing chess online

Monsters using the internet is an interesting idea.

I also thought of the characters on social media. That's a whole can of worms right there

They'd communicate via video link daily.

Having said that, the covid restrictions in Japan weren't as severe as many other countries, & there're no mandatory lockdowns as such w/i the country (they did've cut off travel links w/ the outside world, tho). The public scare was still there, tho, & people voluntarily took various precautionary measures, especially those advised/urged by the govt., which're followed by most.

Sounds very much like me. I usually don't go out much or have that many relatives/friends/acquaintances left anyway, so the only additional cuts I'd need to make in such times of Lockdown would be the potential, region-depending temporary Restrictions regarding the Possibility of going Shopping/Sightseeing. ;)

Interesting. Yeah, I imagined daily video calls at the least. If this was during a Cbibi Usa period, there would be fights for the screen or Usagi would be increasingly desperate and creative in finding privacy lol

They could have explored Sailor Moon in the 21st Century by giving better representation to transgender, homosexual, gender-nonconforming, and racially diverse characters. Thus distancing themselves from disastrous treatment of these topics by original series.

I know that you guys want to talk about it. No need to hold back. :O

so, delete the entire Sailor Team and replace them with Toon Makers', add in a bit of a fan series (of which in said series a Youma is a Sailor Senshi/Scout/Guardian/yourfavoriteterm), and bring in Zoisite and Fisheye to the Sailor Team for good measure.

(only done for the hilarity of the team up, but I think this could satisfy the better representation. If not, someone could always go out there and remake Toon Makers' concept, not typing to bash, I'm always welcome to a different interpretation.)

If they ever do reboot the 90’s anime in particular they could either make the Esmeraude flu episode into Covid or have a Jadeite episode where his energy-stealing plot of the day is hearing about this thing called “viruses” which is supposedly a great energy-draining resource so he goes to Wuhan China to pose as a marketplace bat seller which he infected with the Covid virus.

Most of the cast being Japanese and Pluto supposedly being half-Romani (i.e. Indian) isn’t “diverse” enough for you? :P

(Fish-Eye being updated to straight-up trans though would be based)

I could imagine his releasing a bat-like Youma or, even better, a virus-like one like these: lol

The existence of social media would probably give a great insight into how the world at large sees the Guardians. Clips of them in battle would end up on the internet, there would probably be some J.Jonah Jameson types calling them menaces, and so on. This is borrowed from Boom Comic's Power Rangers, but I even imagine fake Sailor Guardian accounts going up and the girls being mad (in the 90's show, Usagi wanted the fake Sailor Moon to pay copyright fees lol). All the negative comments and posts could even take a toll on mental health for ones like Ami or possibly Mako. "Are we really doing good here? Could we better in how we fight?"

Sooo... The Wakagi Brothers?, and one of them is in the police force, too.
