Yeah and I checked a copy of volume 3 recently. There's no explanation for it in the translation notes.

To quote someone on Reddit on about his name in Japanese:
Nope, the katakana in his name do not read “daiyamondo” (ダイヤモンド), which would be the correct way to approximate the English “diamond” in Japanese. His name reads “demando” (デマンド), and the best theory I’ve encountered on why he’s spelled that way is that it might be the New High German word “Demand,” an obsolete term for the diamond. Considering that Esmeraude’s name is also an obsolete, albeit French term for the emerald, it’s not impossible for Demande to be named after an outdated term for the diamond in a different language.

Also, found this difference in dialogue, but I've noticed a number of the dialogue changes revolve around Rei. Maybe they didn't think certain aspects were coming across as they wanted.

It's one step forward, two steps back with this translation. :roll: The change from Demande to Diamond is frankly inexcusable. You lose so much of the intent and the aesthetic by translating a name like that. Worst of all, its translation is completely inconsistent and arbitrary. Unless you call the other members Ruby, Emerald, and Sapphire, it doesn't make sense to just change Demande's name to Diamond. That's like translation 101.

The "dedicated parishioner" thing is really clunky and confusing. I understand not wanting to use "shrine maiden" as it's not that accurate to the original, but why not just go with "Shinto practitioner" or "devout Shintoist"?

But hey, at least they used "shrine" instead of "jinja" this time around! That's something, I guess.

Agreed, a medium between the two would be something like: "Woah, she's that into Shinto."
