I personally don't know much of anything about Naoko Takeuchi. I'm happy she decided to create Sailor Moon.
All three of the endings in Crystal III are some of my favorites. I frequently listen to them.

Sailor Mercury and Chibi Moon have more offensive power and the inners overall are waaay better at physical combat. I don't get why they decided Chibi Moon would be a gag sailor soldier if she was supposed to get a full season to herself. Was that a last minute decision? Mercury getting killed by the DD girls without being able to defend herself because she could do nothing but create mists was also weird. Shine Aqua Illusion came in too late IMO.
I like the pacing of Crystal III better than S, which dragged a lot and had terrible screentime issues.

Crystal is more closer to the manga and plot .There are less fillars
Crystal having real time attacks season 1.
Crystal Usagi and Mamorou having a nice relationship.
Pluto's charazation
Chibusa characterization and development.Chibiusa is not a brat or overly antagonist. Her arc in the black moon arc , her friendship with Hotoru and her arc in Eternal is pleasure to see.

Most of the music and the ones they do not use.
Minato being more of a leader
The sailor mercury and berethe chess match .

Regarding Crysternos, the entire project has really good music, I think its aesthetic continues to improve with every installment, and I appreciate its faster pacing because it makes it easier to watch and to draw new audiences. All characters seem stronger in their abilities, and some, like Chibiusa, are a lot more pleasant than in previous adaptations. I also love the manga lore and I'm pleased to see it depicted in animation.

And regarding Takeuchi, I appreciate how creative she was with everything she included in Sailor Moon, and I find her commitment to making her own way and prioritizing her family to be inspirational.

There's nothing more comforting than reading the Sailor Moon manga short stories as well as snippets from Naoko's other short manga works, as their carefree and romantic mood is extremely relaxing.

I'm excited like a little kid for Cosmos. I've watched the 90s Stars anime dubbed in brazilian portuguese in Brazil and loved that it had male characters who turned into female senshi. Also, the manga Stars arc holds a special place in my heart, as I read it for the first time during a period of deep depression, about 10 years ago, and it helped soothe it a bit.

Off-topic, but I watched Sailor Moon classic in Portuguese when I was 10 and living in Brazil.

As for the Stars arc, it really helps me, too. In my opinion, the theme of the Stars arc is strength in the face of adversity—and I do need strength right now.

what i like about Naoko:

- Her style, especially from the dream and stars arcs in Sailormoon. Some illustrations from that period are simply divine!
- Although for her the manga would have ended with the first narrative arc, she managed to continue Sailormoon for another 4 arcs, all full of events and with interesting stories.
- I love her thin stroke, knowing then that in the color illustrations every contour was done with the nib I appreciate her even more. I also like how she colors, despite using markers it's all homogeneous and blended beautifully.
- even the sketches she made are interesting. It would be wonderful if she could make actual illustrations of them.
- how well she was able to connect the codename sailor v series to that of Sailormoon.
- In the beginning, as can be seen from the first sketches and the author's notes, the story of Sailormoon would have been different from how we know it now, I really appreciate her spirit of adaptability and her creativity which allowed her to shape and refine the story making it so loved.
- her fashion sense and taste.
- her sense of humor in the right measure put into codename sailor v and Sailormoon manga.

what i like about Crystal, eternal and cosmos:

- Usagi's voluminous hair in the first 2 seasons.
- the idea of full lips, almost as if they had a delicate lipstick in season I and II.
- in the same seasons the attacks in real time.
- the transformations of season I and II
- the smoothness of Crystal III animation.
- in season III the expressiveness that the characters can make.
- the characters manage to convey the right feelings to those who watch the episodes of season III
- the hand pose in Mars transformation in Season III
- chibimoon transformation and attack in season III
- the rainbow double moon heartache and space sword blaster attack in season III.
- the scene where Hotaru's spirit dissolves, it's so moving!
- the scene where Saturn awakens emerging from the body of pharaoh 90.
- mercury's transformation in eternal movies
- world shaking and dead scream attacks in eternal
- the nuances in the colors in eternal and cosmos
- the music in all seasons and movies.

I was even younger, between 4-5, and watched it after kindergarden, with my face glued to the tv lol
Then I went back to it during my late teens.

And yes, may it give us strength.

- I like how there wasn’t any stock footage for the attacks used in the first two seasons.

- The artstyle of Crystals season 1 and 2, when animated correctly could be quite beautiful at times.

- I loved the little scene Minako got in her introduction episode where she tries to distance herself from the others in order to protect them, felt like a callback to her PGSM character and was the only time in the first two seasons I felt they really “got” Minako.

- Jupiter’s introduction episode was great

- Ami’s wasn’t too bad either.

- Loved the editions to Ami’s backstory in episode 16 as these were the sorts of changes/expansions Crystal needed more of.

- Love all the OPs and EDs as well as the character songs

- The Moon Pride MV is a work of art

- Liked the edition in the Eternal movies of Mako sympathizing for Hawks-Eye

- All in all seasons 3 and Eternal have managed to follow the manga pretty faithfully without any drastic changes or deletions, which is really all I can ask for at this point.

That’s about it. :)

For Naoko:

- I love her concepts, she has some really great ideas and a real knack for lore and world-building, these just needed to be fine-tuned and fleshed out some more.

- I adore her sadistic side and how she just wants to go full edge and make Sailor Moon into a low-key horror Mahou Shoujo lol

- For a woman in her early twenties in 90’s Japan she was quite progressive on the subjects of queer women and trans people and was ahead of her time in so many ways.

- I love how she’s a staunch feminist and seems to truly love and want to empower the female gender

- Whatever you wanna say about her, at least she’s not JK Rowling tier where she’s actively posting on social media tweeting out her “hot take retcons” or political opinions, thereby ruining the franchise for her fans.

The lyrics of Tsukiiro Chainon, written by Takeuchi, really captured the essence of the Dream Arc.
I think they really capture the essence of the series as a whole in how it deals with past tragedy and moving forward through bonds with others.

Moonlight Densetsu also did this in a more straightforward way (and also by sheer luck, those lyrics about Usagi's love encompassing "past, present and future" fit what we know after R and Stars really well), and I feel like these two songs are really anthems for the series because of it.

I am fully aware that the goal of this thread is to focus on positive things and I do not wish to derail the thread.

  • I ask for permission to discuss something I have heard from a YouTubber based in Mexico. It’s neither a bad or good thing, it is something that simply falls under the category of “neutral.”

Supposedly, Naoko Takeuchi did not like Moonlight Densetsu because the song is a rewrite of yume wa majorika senyorita and another song from the 1960s. She, again, supposedly, asked TOEI to change the song and even wrote Princess Moon as an alternative. By then, though, it was too late, because everybody was singing Moonlight Densetsu.

Yume wa majorika senyorita is a song by a pop-idol duo that was active between 1991-1992 (Sailor Moon came out in 1992). Moonlight Densetsu and yume wa majorika senyorita were also arranged and composed by the same people.

Again, this is a story I have heard from a YouTubber based in Mexico and I am not sure if it is true or if it falls into the category of “urban legend.” But if it’s true, I sympathize with Naoko.
