I happen to disagree, I loved the idea of the Starlights made into the anime. Loved the Star arc and the final battle episodes. It was pure gold for me, it was great writing & execution. I may be in the minority but it was one of my favorites. Unfortunately, no real image of Sailor Cosmos though. I just don't understand nude Usagi is all.

Cosmos is not in the 90s anime because it is Galaxia who has her role there.

I should rewatch Sailor Stars. I don't love it, however I remember being truly satisfied with Igarashi's version. But... Sailor Cosmos? I know she's got a lot of fans and many members on this forum will peppered me after what I'm gonna say but Sailor Cosmos is just a plot device to tell the reader Usagi will have a bittersweet future, something we know beforehand in every version...which is fine, don't get me wrong. But you know... Sailor Cosmos fits better in the manga as the Stars arc is Usagicentric whereas in the 90's Anime we see everyone (main characters, minor ones and villains) saying goodbye to the audience due to being an ensemble show.

I mean Chibi Chibi in the original anime is also a plot device to set up Sailor Galaxia's redemption even though the entire season made also no effort in trying to foreshadow that Sailor Galaxia was a good senshi and actually went out of it's way to draw comparisons between Chibi Chibi and Usagi... down to using Mitsuishi Kotono to voice her... Only for her to end up having nothing to do with Usagi anyway.

I agree though that Sailor Cosmos' story in the manga wouldn't really fit the '90s anime, but making Chibi Chibi essentailly a living MacGuffin was definitely not it.

And I agree with that. Chibi Chibi is another plot device in the 90's. That character was born to be an ornament in the story whatever adaptation you enjoy.

What I meant is that most of the episode 200 lenght isn't taken up by a long conversation between a plot device and four Sailor Nobodies. But again, it works in the manga. :keke:

It would not surprise me if the authors of the 90s anime just ranned out of time.

Both Takeuchi and Igarashi changed Galaxia's characterization from the Materials Collections plan.
At least the former could finish the manga w/o haste, since the anime had already ended at the time. lol

Takeuchi split Galaxia and Chaos and Igarashi gave the backstory of Cosmos to Galaxia, on Igarashi's approach he completely rejected Takeuchi and Ikuhara's plans in the preproduction.
You should consider that Takeuchi didn't know at that point whether Sailor Stars was gonna be a success. Once BanDai and Toei saw toys didn't sell well Naoko had to change a lot of things on the go and prepare THE big finale.

Ikuhara has nothing to do with Stars. He was out even before Sailor Stars production began.

On Igarashi's defence, he changed things for the sake of the plot. Sailor Cosmos didn't fit in the 90's anime, her backstory was given to other characters, therefore the Cauldron was deleted (Chibi Chibi's main conversation topic). Sailor Lethe and Mnemosyne? Meh, it's a Nehellenia arc ripoff. The cemetery? A graveyard for incorporeal corpses? Filler story to.... fill pages and pages...Galaxia's garden? Another pointless story to kill Kakyuu and show us all that Chibiusa and her team are useless. So, I prefer Igarashi's take of the finale instead of the total mess full of embellishments.

I think Naoka probably had an idea how she was going to end the story. So as a result the manga felt more like a series finale. At the end the 90s anime it felt more like a season finale.

Indeed, I think Igarashi's actions are understandable.

Ikuhara at least knew the original plans for Stars or rather the Materials Collection plot and put some of the aspects of it in Utena which is why Akio acts like Chaos or rather what Galaxia was supposed to be.

Since the Neherenia arc was part of the original plans of Stars in the Anime, I think the parallels between Anthy and Neherenia and Galaxia and Akio would have been obvious had they maintained the Materials Collection/Preproduction plot which would have made Utena seem more of a rip-off.

I think the only thing that CrysEternal salvaged from the preproduction plot are the Eternal Uniforms of the other Soldiers.

On the manga side, the manga might have been inferior to the anime had the Materials Collection plot had been the one used by Naoko, the Preproduction plot of the Anime and Manga complemented each other.
