well chiaki have done something like that before, her more iconic anime is higurashi, is the same cute looking character with heavy horror story
well is little annoing this with fandoms D they always start with complaining, some times
i feel it bad because we dont innovate
because some people wanted a exact copy of the 90s anime the other threat it say it really clear you expectation from this season where mostly the 90s designs
and some people wanted something new or much more like the manga
i wanted something more like the manga or season 1/2 but more detailed
thats one of the things i dont like of the 90s anime it designs are more simple, mostly the first two season, like some people said in super s of the 90s it have some detailed shots
that what i liked more of the first season of crystal, well season 3 have it times

if you ask me it's the constant elitism in this fandom [getting irate at fans who use Dic names is one example] and this tribal attitude that separates fans into separate groups of who unanimously shout "my favorite version is better" that is doing the damage

Im very excited. I also think that maybe, possibly, just this once Toei actually cares at least some about this project.

Bringing back Tadano (and seeing her designs today again made me like them even more than yesterday - they're just solid), getting new, experienced writer, having Naoko's supervision...if only they can add good animation to that...
Obviously im not expecting miracles but maybe...just maybe if they can make the movies at least at the same level as Tellu episode from S3 (which shouldnt be such a huge problem given it was just a tv episode and these are movies) then we mght possibly get one of the best pieces of SM anime ever. We'll just have to wait and see. Either way im way more optimistic about S4 than about S1-2 and 3

This is why Viz started out with horrible blu rays, why Toei never gave proper budget for the show and kept on messing up the actual concept they started with. This is why the Kanzenban is so slow on release. Because fans are not vocal and just consume whatever crap Toei give them. Would people honestly love these designs if they were not done by Tadano. How can somebody with their right mind say these look anything like her 90s anime. Guys watch the R movie or epsiode 6, episode 46 - it is nothing like her art from the past. I know I will probably get banned or removed from the threat or whatever. But because accept, deny and always say "Well, it could have been worse, or it is just like the 90s (because it is done by the same person). For most of you Sailor Moon wasn't a thing till 2000s. For me it was a big part of my life since 1994-5 and it has been something that actually made me the person I am today. Looking how TOEI are killing this franchise is a big deal to me and it hurts even more when some people encourage them. I do not blame Tadano - she can draw them better for like 10 minutes during an event full of people around her. She was told to draw them this way. Please don't pretend it looks anything like the 90s and don't insult it (this is not personal for you, sorry for quoting you) Sorry for this outburst, I just can see how some people try to be positive just so they won't be shut out or bullied on here. This sounds a lot like Tomb Raider fans regarding the Tomb Raider reboot lol. "They're killing the franchise!" You make good points and your criticism is definitely valid, but I have a counterpoint...

I don't think you can really say they're killing Sailor Moon when the majority of its relevance has been merchandise throughout its life. To paraphrase Tuxedo Unmasked, they fell in love with the image of a character (and the freedom and feminism within femininity the series represents).

Was Sailor Moon One of the Most Popular Anime of the 1990s?

Not everyone who is into Sailor Moon or perpetuates the image of the Sailor Guardians has watched much if any of it. A lot of it is people seeing merchandise of a character from their childhood and wanting to relive the nostalgia. The thing about it is, Toei can pretty much do whatever they want with the series and it won't ever die. That's why the animation is so poor, back in the 90's and now. They're trying to make the animation as cheap as possible so they can maximize returns on merch and BD/DVDs.

But Sailor Moon will spring back when pushed down, just like she does on the show. It'll always be "eternal," if you will. Because people who don't even know her love her.

I guess it never really registered in my brain until I saw the criticisms of Crystal’s designs looking too moe moe

They all still look fine to me. The designs are here and there but not that terrible. Even Naoko had an inconsistent style looking at the art sheet.

I thought we all liked and watched Sailor Moon because of the story and captivating characters? Shouldn't we be more concerned they continue to give us that? Season 1 of Crystal wasnt the best effort, Season 2 tried to add some and Season 3 did it a little better.

Like the art is legit not that bad. I'm looking at the distant image and I'm like..What is really wrong with this? If this is animated well it will look good.

Other positive thing is that Naoko is supervising. If the creator approved then so be it.

We have MUCH better writer now. Be thankful for that.

What I really want to see are the Outers and the Sailor Quartet.


Being that they brought in the JoJo writer an all...we are probably going to get some of those dark scenes. JoJo and Dead Moon Circus are like cousins.


Things that pop up in JoJo can be blood and violent and Kon also has her hands on edgier content.

I think we should be ready for possibly a SM like we've never seen in a while. I'm not raising my expectations super high but I'm gonna be open minded now.

People can like these designs (I think they are fine). This does not mean that they are complacent, each people have their own opinion.

You like the designs in the first and second season (me too), but those were one of the worst ideas from Toei and, to a certain extent, it shows its little interest in Crystal. They had to know that they could not give an adequate animation to those designs.

Regarding the budget and the fans being complacent, Toei is cheap in general, even the most popular animes receive a low budget by Toei. Alsi, if people do not consume it, they simply cancel it (Toei has many other popular and profitable series).

I personally have to say I LOVE the new designs, the images are pretty much like a low to medium-quality zoomed in! So, of course they won't look as out-of-this-world gorgeous as in HD imaging but the one with Moon/Chibi-Moon is a better indicator in a way. Closer to the 90s anime but with a definite twist and I can't say how much how BEAUTIFUL that Venus looks in that shot! They don't look as "Moe" to me though as everyone is saying. It's not Madoka-style... lol.

Can someone please tell me what the Japanese fan reactions are?!
