I never really minded the CGI transformations. I too like the 2D ones better, but it was fine.
Like the current Disney movies, sure I will always prefer 2D animation, but I still absolutely loved Tangled, Frozen and Zootopia. (Frozen 2 was hot garbage though lol)

I did like the unique flair they did with the CGI transformations too, too bad they didn't really do that when they switched back to 2D in season 3. Didn't dislike the season 3 ones though.

... Apparently I'm just super easy going lol. Probably to a fault, haha.

No, the CG did have some advantages over the 2D ones, shading for one, I looked at Moon's CG one again and every part of her, from her hair buns to her boots had shading on it.

Yeah, as far as CG goes they're quite nice looking, I've definitely seen worse CG. When I first saw them I was pretty much just "oh, yeah I guess nowadays they would do CG," and that was the end of it. It was a while later that I found out that there was a bit of an uproar about it.
(I was totally out of the fandom and had just picked up the sets Viz release and wandered back into the fandom after watching to see what others thought about Crystal)

The lightning striking the wand for Jupiter, and Venus' ribbons and the way it kinda goes POW at the end is super cool, so I was surprised when I saw all the hate xD

I always will prefer 2D animation over CG if given the choice, but these ones were pretty nice.

Even though I was disappointed with the 3D henshin, I prefer them over season 3 henshin, which are a bad copy of the 90s henshin (esp. outer senshi henshin). The 3D henshin added some original details that were actually cool. I just didn’t get it why Mercury’s tiara took so long to appear!

So what's the point of making a movie then, while they do not have enough budget or time. Is that just a way to lure peope to come to the cinema?
What will Stars become? An OVA? I don't see any reason to make it a movie again.

I wonder: for a TV show they have to achieve a higher level of quality then theatrical release? Season 3 obviously looked better then 1 and 2, which was an ONA. Would a TV station reject an anime like Crystal s1/2? Did they actually broadcast s1/2 in japan on TV?

Yes, they did broadcast s1 and 2 the fixed completed blu ray version on tv. Eternal is movie for one reason only. Season 3 sold poorly, and movies sell much better compared to tv shows. Plus you have the cinema tickets sells. And nobody ever said a movie has to be exceptionally fluid. They simply try to milk as much as possible.

That's flat out wrong. Aside from Uranus and Neptune, all of the other transformations were loosely based on S1/S2. In fact, Mercury's transformation was clearly rotoscoped from Season 1 and Season 2. Venus took more cues from the '90s henshin, but the choreography for the most part was original.

You do realize the Season 1 and 2 transformations were also homages to the '90s anime, right?

If I remember correctly, there are only 1 or 2 sponsors for SMC 1 - 2. They have the sponsor card "Ko no bangumi wa....." after the OP theme.
Not only SMC 1 - 2 was aired on TV, but it was reaired several times. When it reached episode 26 (last ep of SMC 2), the next week it returned to episode 1.
There was a marathon on Animax for season 1 (7 episode each Saturday).
If there is anything questionable, it is season 3. It was aired only 1 time, and then it was gone.

Of course I do realize that.

I should have rewatched s3 henshin, my bad, I only remembered Uranus and Neptune properly, which are badly copied from the 90s. The others, except for Moon, are the least original of all 3 versions we got so far, in my opinion, because they refer to the 90s AND s1/2. I get it why, but I like them least.

Do you really believe that there was an audition to choose the character design for SME?
I don't think there is no one better than Tadano.
What would she think if Toei didn't choose her?

She was asked to do them. She didn't audition. They wanted her and they wantedcto go even more 90s.

They might say it, but I doubt it was legit. I mean it was so obvious what were they going for. She said prior Crystal she is not interested to work with Toei. What are the odds? She was asked to submit them and says she did them in 1 day. I mean I like the designs and all, but 1 day.... I guess this is why our first look was so questionable. Whoever did the designs, they clearly wanted them closer to the 90s and something like the manga artwork. She make it sound as if she did only Sailor Moon. I highly doubt this is how you are supposed to apply.

I guess, “officially” there was an audition, but they wanted her from the start. I think it was the best decision to ask someone from the veterans and Tadano’s design is the most iconic, even if it seems that most fans prefer Ito. I didn’t like the new designs in the beginning, but I’m quite happy with the updated ones.

It depends on the studio tho. The teams behind doraemon/dragon quest or lupin iii movies did an awesome job (specially lupin's one, who's the one closer to their manga/anime designs).
The First was going to get a dubbed theatrical release here in Brazil, but due to Covid, it was released on streaming.
Funny how a recent Lupin movie can get released here, but Sailor Moon, which is 10x more popular, is taking 1000 years to get the old anime rereleased. Toei and Naoko must be a pain in the neck for licensors when combined
