Netflix is probably taking Crystal’s streaming rights into consideration too. While that most likely won’t be an exclusive (given how France will be streaming Crystal elsewhere), right now they still have to wait for Hulu’s exclusive to expire in the US (for the dub and Blu-ray masters.)

It makes no sense to debut Eternal without also providing Crystal. Casual viewers will be lost and confused.

Crackpot theory here, but since Toei’s licenses usually last 5-7 years, if Viz’s license began on the fiscal year, it’s possible that it will expire next week. Perhaps Netflix are waiting for said licenses in other territories to expire as well, so they can snag them up?

Orrrr, the movies’ release date(s) are dead-set in the licensing agreement and we just simply haven’t reached that date yet.

Since Crystal wont be a Netflix exclusive, I doubt they’d go that route. I’m guessing they’d just try and get it licensed for their major territories, which most already seem to have it dubbed.
Eternal did not completely follow Crystal's plot completely, they just animated the manga Dream Arc directly, TOEI might have surprises for Next year's 30th anniversary.

Eternal is following the exact plot of Crystal, down to actual footage being retraced for both intro and flashback. Eternal is oficially subtitled Crystal Season IV, printed on the official artbook, so please do not say this again.

But didn't Mamoru go blind in the Manga which the Eternal Movies animated? I remember it being mentioned here.

They used the pose in the manga but there's nothing in that picture shows that Mamoru went blind.
It's strange that they used flashback from SMC3 (which didn't happen in the manga, for example the Holy Grail scene), but none of SMC 1 - 2.

Maybe it’s like the Snyder cut, Ms. Kon doesn’t want any footage drawn by the previous staff

It's likely a result of TOEI's move since TOEI decided to remove Takahashi.

But they redraw scenes from Season 3. They don't redraw stuff from S1-2, but I think it is mainly because the artstyle is too different.
That is what I am trying to say as well.

Yeah but you said it is because of Takahashi, but it is clearly not the case as they still use stuff from his season.
They want to keep the artstyle consistency as well in the movie.

There is no excuse for not being able to copy gestures and the position of the characters.
Spoiler: show

This scene are from SME. If they really cared about "consistency", they removed Saturn's dorito dress already.

Yeah. I really doubt the issue is with Takahashi especifically.

I mean, Princess Serenity has white/silver hair, which is contradictory with blonde Princess Serenity in S1-2.

I guess the director wants to adapt the story in her own way.

Or Naoko herself told Kon not to use any references from SMC 1 - 2.
