SG5, short for Sailor Guardians 5, is a special project unit produced in collaboration with Sailor Moon, based in the USA and consisting of selected members from the girl groups Happiness and iScream.

Additional information: SG5

@mods can sg5 have their own thread as they are not related to Cosmos (yet)?

The whole thing felt like Minako recruits girls who can sing and dance and forms an idol group.

I don’t really ‘get’ it. Like, what’s the aim with this group? They are using the Sailor Moon brand so loosely I probably wouldn’t know they were affiliated with the franchise had I not known prior to watching. I think they’d probably be better off doing their own thing. The theme of the song and lyrics have no relation to the SM universe, plus why would you spend money promoting a group and then not include them in Cosmos? Unless they’ll be around for part 2? Even then the aggressive ‘girl crush’ concept doesn’t really fit thematically with the reboot.

I don’t hate it but I think something in the vein of Twice would be a much better direction for them to go down.

I also didn’t get it.

I don’t mind them only loosely being associated with Sailor Moon, but the Twitter clip of Firetruck (I didn’t listen to the whole song) sounds bad. The backing track and the vocals don’t match at all. The vocal hook is catchy! But they should’ve had a different instrumental.

This sounds bad and their outfits are... Too "revealing" even when you compare them to villains such as the Animamates.
Doesn't fit the SM brand at all.
But how come their debut has over 3 million views? This doesn't come from SM alone.
Are they like Sakurakko Club, which got into early Sera Myu? They were in groups that already had their share of popularity?

Yes, 4 members (Sayaka, Ruri, Miyuu, and Kaede) are from Happiness, a subunit of E-girls (E-girls has disbanded but I guess Happiness is still active?), though Sayaka and Kaede aren’t vocalists in Happiness (not sure about Miyuu, as her roles are leader and performer). Rui is from the group iScream. Both are managed by LDH Japan.
Edit: SG5 is also managed by LDH.

Momoclo’s song Otome Sensou feels closer to Sailor Moon & is better than Moon Pride, in my opinion.

Firetruck doesn’t have anything to do with the franchise. Unless, the song is about one of Minako’s infallible plans to date two boys at the same time. That would make sense.

Actually, Rui’s and Miyuu’s roles in SG5 make sense! Rui and Miyuu represent Moon and Venus, respectively, and they’re the leaders of iScream and Happiness, respectively.

Could the title of their next single feature the word "water" - say, "Watermelon" - or any other word representing the elements of the Senshi? lol
