Should the Sailor Moon Crystal Stars ending follow exact ending as the manga?

In the manga, the Sailor Starlights and the moon cats don't come back to life. It would be nice if it shows everyone coming back to life after Usagi faces Chaos.

Absolutely. The whole point of Crystal and the sole purpose it serves is to adapt the manga verbatim. They tried and changed the Dark Kingdom Arc, nobody liked it. It made Crystal nit only badly written and animated but even took the closer to the manga excuse from it. No matter how well they adapt the rest of it, the first arc is forever ruined. And the only good thing about the Stars arc is the ending (in the manga, the 90s Stars has no redeeming qualities). I hope they bring Luna and Artemis in the end, this doesn't change the story in anyway as it doesn't contradict the manga - they were not shown, which doesn't mean they are necessarily dead. As for the Starlight - who cares about them...

The reason people dislike the Dark Kingdom Arc is probably primarily how they mishandled the Shittenou just for that rushed, half-baked romance plot. If they'd given us 26 episodes it might have been enough to include all that in a meaningful way.
The romance broke the first season in so many ways beyond just not being faithful to the source.
The other thing that makes season 1 disliked is how wonky the quality is, from animation to story it's just all over the place.

Also, they ruined Venus and ruined Beryl's death. Her actual death was fine (crumbling away) but having Sailor Moon kill her by breaking her necklace was such a cop-out and pointless from every angle. Venus deserves the kill since ultimately Beryl is just a minion like Prince Diamond was to Death Phantom or Zirconia to Nehelennia.
Letting Venus take her down as the leader made sense. Then Moon takes on Metalia.

Personally, I like it more now than I did my first few viewings, but I still cringe when I know I'm nearing that stupid death scene with the wailing girls.

But back to the original question, yes, they should keep the ending the same. It ties things up nicely but could also leave things open enough if they wanted to continue.
I do think Luna, Artemis and maybe even Usagi's friends and family should be present if it was the author's intention they survived. Having them stand behind Mamoru or at least be in attendance standing around in the background would be nice.

I have a feeling though we'll never know for sure if when Sailor Lethe captured the cats if she also killed Ikuko, and if so, did Ikuko not have a star seed?

They also opened multiple plot-holes each time they altered stuff from the manga. Act 5 clearly showed Tuxedo Mask going to Usagi's house, taking her out in her pjs. She was clearly completely awake and remembered the whole thing. In act 6 they changed a bunch of stuff, not only making Usagi a jerk that would leave her friends and mission over a guy, but also a very stupid one. In the manga she is completely aware that Tuxedo Mask know who she is, but in Crystal they decided she should be completely shocked that the guy that was in her room, took her out in her pjs etc knows who she is. Then in act 10 we had a very nice albeit off model fighting sequence of senshi x shittenou and they clearly realized the shittenou were brainwashed and refused to fight them. And yet in act 11 Endo appears and nobody, despite seeing 4 brainwashed guys, not once thought it is brainwashed Mamoru. Then act 12 happened and it was probably one of the worst ways you could handle this act of the manga and the whole shittenou narrative. But they not only had Metalia obliterate the 4 generals, while leaving the 4 guardians there live and kicking, despite she just showed how strong she is, but she was also shown to be at two times at once. In act 13 they showed human Luna as some sort of fan service. Lovely, but then they also showed Artemis reaction and as we know in the Dream Arc he not only knows Luna has human form, but he also has one and this reaction made no sense. The team clearly show that each time they decide to deviate from the source they make mistakes, I wonder if they were writing on the fly...

Back on the topic, I think they will show the cats in the end and this is not that big of a chance, considering them being dead was never confirmed in the final pages - they were just not shown.

Yes, especially since the Manga's ending was pretty much perfect already. Please no more needless additions/changes like that horrific Sen/Shi "romance" from the DK arc part of Crystal.

The only good parts were Mercury & Jupiter's introductions, episode 9, & some Minako scenes but that is it.
