Thanks for the link. Just...wow. But I've always heard the Korean dub was one of the most (and worst) edited.
I've heard the Russian dub had the problem of forgetting characters genders. Sometimes within the same episode. Even CWI didn't get that bad O_O

And didn't CWI stop censoring the body lines altogether? Or was it just not as much? I remember that Jupiter's butt got left in tact (sometimes?) at least.
I seem to recall the "Crystal Power" upgrades just recycled previously edited footage from their "star power" transformations, but I'll also admit I am not nearly as good at remembering the CWI changes because I just flat out didn't watch most of it. I saw the DiC dub innumerable times, but by the time S and SuperS got their dubs, I'd already watched the entire series in Japanese and aside from occasionally wanting to see how they handled certain things (such as the lulzworthy Fish Eye scene), I generally couldn't sit through an entire episode of the awful dubbing anymore. When I get that far for the reviews, I might spotcheck the CWI episodes to have more to say about them, but considering my pacing on my recaps when I only have to watch one version of the show, I'm not sure I want to double my total viewing time for two series :eeklez:

Wow, that's just...wow. O_O I wonder how the poor Russian kids reacted?

Maybe you're right...it has been years since I last saw the tv version of the CWi dub. Time to check SMU!

I can understand that. That's actually how I am now with a couple of animes I watch that still get the same treatment.

Couldn't you just continue to do what you're doing now and look at the SMU comparisons? Though you actually won't be able to do that for most of R, since the majority of the season doesn't have any comparisons sadly. ^_^'

Alot of dub edits I'll never understand is when they completely change the dialouge to make the characters seem "meaner." What's so inappropriate about "nice" characters? Why did they have to make Rei, Mamoru and Chibi-Usa blatant bullies?

Also there is no excuse for their hateful removal of homosexuality, absolutely no excuse! I don't care if it was the nineties, bigotry never is permissible and must always be stopped! Intolerance should never, never be tolerated!

But see, it's okay to do that now, because by removing those HATEFUL STEREOTYPES and creating a gay and trans-free world, the dub is actually MORE progressive! You should be HAPPY!

...oh look, blood, ears....

...Who actually thinks that?! 0__0 Are there even fans that think that? I didn't think the Sailor Moon fandom was a place homphobes even got attracted to, I mean considering that the whole series is very much pro LBGT.

Remember kids, show kindness to your good friends by being mean to them. Sailor Moon Says!

In fact, I'm surprised nobody then realized their hypocrisy: shove lessons down the throats of kids while also contradicting them in the actual episodes. I mean, the Sailor Says segment come off as very last minute.

I always dug the one in the animators episode that chastised Nephrite's victim of the day for cheating and how wrong it was, even though the poor girl was possessed by an unholy demon that altered her personality to force her to work to exhaustion.

Oh, and then on top of that, a few episodes earlier Raye had BLATANTLY cheated to win at a contest with no repurcussions.

So, moral: Don't cheat - unless you're one of the main characters. Then it's okay!

Lol, I just realized how incredibly ironic that is! P-:

I wouldn't exactly say that the series is pro, but more that it's just accepting of it. I mean, the first couple it had was of the bad guys, which isn't a very "pro" message ("evil people can be gay"), and Haruka and Michiru, while being more of the good guy side, weren't exactly always on the same page as the main heroine. The series is accepting of it, by I wouldn't say that it outright promotes it.

Which I like as it seems like they're saying to naysayers: Yeah, they're gay be they evil or good. What's wrong with that? (note: this is said in a nonchalant yet inquisitive manner.)

Yeah, it's fine with both sides (hetero and homo) without taking either side.

What was with that? It's like the only way to get it parents-approved is to tack on contradictory PSAs to each episode.
They had to fulfill the necessary E/I requirement for syndicated television programming at the time. Remember, this was before it hit Toonami.

Slight Correction: Sailor Moon was not required to do this. Most stations would try to classify programs like Sailor Moon as if they actually were educational to meet their requirement, and would claim that silly things like tacking a "Knowing is half the battle!" message on it made the entire show educational.

...but of course it's not, it was created to sell toys and merch :P

He was talking about me. I suppose Rebochan doesn't think he's a very good debater, or something, as my opinions have since changed thanks to talking to him. For the record, I am a gay man, and I assure you I in no way dislike LGBT brothers and sisters.

I was willing to let bygones be bygones but apparently that's not what you want, Rebochan! Guess that's my fault for bringing my side of the story to the table, hearing what you and the others said and becoming educated, and ultimately having my views changed on the Japanese, original version of Sailor Moon.

Sorry for being open to others' opinions, I guess!

Yeah, I read that as sarcasm too. Even without a smiley or a [/sarcasm] tag, Rebochan hit all the right notes of a textual sarcastic tone.
