The Life After, a sailor moon fanfic | FanFiction
This fic pretty sums up my misgivings about Crystal Tokyo; great concept but flawed execution.
Grandma's words stuck a cord in me: Without change, there is no growth. Without growth, people only stagnate. There is no higher cause to work, nor any cause to innovate. Without death, there are no doctors. Without crime, there is no law. Without those things many have no jobs. Without growth, we are barely human. This would cause turmoil if not for your purification. You taking away all will to fight.
Crystal Tokyo seems like an utopia at the beginning, but it'll be a stagnate society once time goes by.
Is it right to label someone a rebel and cast them adrift to an asteroid just because their views are different from yours?
Is it just to deny an elderly woman the right to die when she has lived a long time and sees death as a release?

Thoughts? Opinions?

It is not a flawed execution and again said fanfic is just another example of pathetic deconstructionist fanfiction done in relation to Crystal Tokyo. Nothing about eternal or everlasting life prohibits growth or change. In fact the opposite it helps it go further. If we lived forever then we would be alive constantly to better ourselves. We would have a continuous pool of knowledge. In fact due to death this has caused us to lose intelligent and sensible people. People could still have jobs doing things that they like in fact they could get even better with them as time goes on and advance. Also there would be Doctors there would be a need for scientists to continue to advance us. Likewise if crime happens that is because law is not being followed. So no the statement without crime there is no law is backwards. If there is crime that means that law isn't being properly followed and crime is anathema to law and destroys law. Nothing about an eternal lifespan prohibits growth in fact the opposite it encourages growth for both the individual human and the civilization at large.

Likewise in terms of crime. Crime didn't stop in Crystal Tokyo I mean besides the Black Moon Clan you also had Hell Destiny in Sailor Moon Another Story granted it isn't canon but it still happened. As for purification this was only put on criminals who basically waged war and terrorism. The Black Moon Clan was not given the choice of purification because they "had different views." Rather they were a death cult of criminals who waged terrorism, theft and even mass murder on the citizens of Crystal Tokyo. Wanting to die is stupid for one you have no idea what comes after death. We all have our beliefs but we don't know. Of course I can empathize with those who due to abuse, despair etc have wanted to die or even those who are terminally ill. However as my brother says people like you who romanticize death or think that death is a good part of life clearly have never seen death face to face. My brother is a Doctor his business is in life and death. He has seen the true suffering that disease and death ravages on people and in his practice he has not seen one person who was ready to die. Yes he saw people who through the pain they suffered wanted it to end but if they could be better and life healthy eternal lives they would. Hell if it wasn't necessary to be a Doctor and we could all live healthy and eternal lives my brother would be fine with that because only then would we be truly free. That is why Hellenic Religion called The Gods free as due to their Eternal Lives they had true freedom as opposed to being bound by the cycle of death and rebirth as we are. Hinduism says similar things. As for said Elderly Woman in Crystal Tokyo she very well might be given a rejuvenated young body why wouldn't she want that? Again not only is this fanfiction inaccurate to what Crystal Tokyo is but it again is that deconstructionist nonsense of romanticizing death when death is not romantic or good for us. Which from what I have seen only people from typically safe 1st world countries have this view on death and dying as being a good thing. People who see death and dying on a regular basis know what it is and really there is an African Proverb that "Extiction/Death is not honorable." It may be neccessary and unavoidable for the time being but it is not good. Also people can die in Crystal Tokyo. I mean hell the Black Moon Clan committed widespread mass murder so if someone wants to die. They could just commit suicide. From what I have seen The Silver Crystal does have some rejuvenation powers but really can only be used to purify someone of evil as opposed to widescale resurrection and even in moments where it does it usually has a steep price or is being aided by other Senshi and their Crystals/Powers.

What is it with people's fetishization of death? Death sucks. It's a terrible awful thing and we'd be better off without it, but we unfortunately don't have unlimited space.

If all people were living eternally, then Naoko would live eternally, too, forever keeping her franchise royalties and copyrights. Eternity would pass by, and every few years we would be getting reprints and remakes of the same old manga she once drew a few billions years ago. Sounds scary? :creeper:

I could go on an entire Wasp Woman styled speech from Harvester and another how many people are sheep instead of wolves. However I think this love of death by many modern people is because they have never seen death first hand. They have never been in hospitals where people are begging for more time and no matter how long they live it is never enough. Even those who are in so much pain and misery that they would rather die if they had some magic wand that would heal them and make them healthy again so they could live longer they would take it.
