Did anyone else feel incredibly mislead at the time? I remember the Moon Pride video coming out -just- after episode 2 was released on NicoNico and was convinced the footage in the MV must have been future scenes from later in the season. They had saved everything up for the climax, surely!

Nope.

Why would they create stock footage for ‘Moon Healing Escalation’ and then just.. never use it in the anime itself? (To be honest it gives me Sailor Moon S vibes where they used their manga-only attacks in the OP but nowhere else..)

The 3 minute MV has more motion, storyboarding and creativity the the whole first 2 seasons combined. THIS is what we should’ve got visually from the start. Was it the same director? If so, what the hell happened? I understand Toei wanting to make the MV look sleek and polished, but when your promotion and actual product vary in quality to such an awful extent then it’s nothing more than false advertising, in my opinion.

Also interesting to note, but I wonder if the character designs in the MV were earlier iterations Sakou made. Sailor Moon looks a lot less lankier and soul-less than she does in Crystal.

Yeah, it was such a bummer because it premiered around episode 2 or 3 and these were probably the worst animation-wise, though when it comes to writing and fleshing out in my opinion they did very well with the episode introductions of each senshi. But then they key visuals were just as misleading..

It would lack consistency if they added that in.

Yeah, the existence of the MV is sort of bizarre. I can understand creating promotional material that looks superior in order to sell products - like, some of the animation used in the 90s for the commercials for toys were surprisingly nice-looking - but I mean... it's a CD/Blu-Ray. Surely the MV must have taken a considerable amount of time and investment, but why go through that trouble for the sake of a CD? Did Momoiro's people fund it? Lol.

I may be completely wrong, but I have the impression that it was important to make Momoclo “look good.”

I don’t like “Moon Pride,” but I love “Tsukiiro Chainon.” It is a shame the Momoclo/Sailor Moon album isn’t on iTunes because I really would like to buy it.

Yep, I still feel cheated!

Why does a mere 3 minute promotional AMV feels like it has more characterization and a story to tell than a whole-ass 13 episode season?!

Clearly this is where Toei blew all their budget because it sure as hell wasn’t Crystal itself! :P

If Crystal had been like what it was portrayed in the Moon Pride AMV from the start, I’m very certain I and most people in the fandom would have had very little issues with it. (Except for those creepy, uncanny valley CGI Senshi dolls at the end there, those still need to go cause they be ugly af!)

Maybe because the background style in the MV doesn't fit with the watercolor style of SMC.
Remember when they had to change the colorful sky to the black sky in SMC3 key visual?

I mean, the MV was pre-made a long time before the show aired with different staff (Munehisa Sakai only supervised it, the animation director didn't work on the show, same for the director of protography and the director) and it still used footage from the series (a rough version of the CG transformations, and Naotoshi Shida's cuts from the opening). So that wouldn't be a stock version of Moon Healing, rather a different cut from the opening which was changed to the villains. They *could* have reused it, yes, but I'm not sure it would've worked
