Isn’t it weird that the last frames show the key visual in 3D? And it’s not the same 3D style as the henshin or the catwalk.
I’m guessing the thinking at the time was that the 3D elements could help replicate the more shoujo-esque style of Naoko’s work in anime form because they probably knew already by this point that they didn’t have enough resources/time/money to recreate it in a hand-drawn format. Since they’d already created models for all the girls I’m guessing they perhaps were planning to implement 3D elements even more but the backlash made them revert back to strictly 2D animation.
Either way, 2D or 3D the first two seasons are an unsalvageable mess and have become the hallmark on how not to remake a beloved franchise.
