The Power of the Senshi? Some of the Strongest Magical Girls To Ever Exist?

While we often rejoice in the power of love that helps them defeat enemies. Usually before that we see them performing attacks and getting knocked down on their butts.

Some people outside the fandom often think the Senshi are weak because of this. How are the Senshi able to be the strongest against characters who have exceptional skills like The Cures or DBZ warriors.

Looking at Crybaby Clumsy Usagi you would easily dismiss her as being able to be anything related to power, skill, or leadership, and yet Bun Head is quite powerful in all kinds of ways. I think her being a pacifist really keeps her from showing her true power all the time.

Sailor Moon's power scale has been displayed several times which proves just how powerful she really is. The same can be said for the Inners as well even when they aren't winning. There are several times in the series she shows how powerful she is, these are some of my favorites:

Superior Durability:

During the SuperS movie, Sailor Moon takes up to 5 direct hits from a massive living star before she seems to show signs of weakening. The crazy part is, she is not on the offensive, she's just trying to protect ChibiUsa by using her own body as a shield...

She is also able to rupture the star (now a black hole) into nothing alongside ChibiUsa. Both of them come out unscathed like they just left the mall. This is truly amazing when you think about it...like really amazing.

In Classic, All the Sailor Senshi are able to withstand the Artic temps with really on Sailor Moon complaining but that's normal..Early Usagi being Usagi..lol Even so, Sailor Moon still is able to continue in the Artic after being scolded by Queen Mars about it and soon brushes it aside.

In R season, Sailor Moon is put down by Rubeus gravity machine at first, but amazingly is able to rise to her feet despite the immense pressure. What the heck? This to me is comparable to Goku training in the chamber with heavy gravity when he was first introduced to it, except it took him a while. It didn't take Sailor Moon that long at all to get to her feet. Even "resting b*tch face" Rubeus was shocked by this.

In S, Sailor Moon is able to withstand Eudial's enhanced Fire Buster, which is said to be stronger and deadlier than natural fire, she even takes a direct hit but she gets back up and still manages to grab the Grail. She then still has enough strength to utilize it's power and block the fire buster straight with ease by simply raising her hand. It was a real "B*tch, Please..." moment.

Tactical Telekinesis:

Sailor Moon's Tiara Action can be sent forth and Sailor Moon can control it in any direction.

In Classic she can make it return or make it stop. She tears a youma in two with a boomerang tiara move (she also does this in the SuperS movie) and she stops it to prevent Naru from getting a direct hit from it. She also uses it in the R movie to free the Inners from a Kisenian Flower. It circles and frees them all then comes back to her hand. Amazing.

The Cutie Moon Rod is thrown like her tiara in one episode, it then hits Koan, boomerangs and spirals back into Sailor Moon's possession.....werk!!

Superior Agility:

Sailor Moon is able to dodge Sailor Uranus' kicks and punches in Sailor Moon S. Uranus is one of the fastest Sailor Senshi. I didn't really think about it at first but then I was like...this klutz is pretty good. How is she dodging Uranus like that?

She also displayed similar feats in Classic when multiple blasts of energy were shot at her from the possessed cameraman. She dodged them all and ended the act with a Sailor Moon kick.

Anyone who's does Moon Spiral Heart Attack and doesn't fall is a legend.

In Crystal, Dark Kingdom, she spins in one spot until it's so fast she shoots upwards into the sky straight into space in like 2 seconds and performs Moon Healing Escalation... Wait, what???

She can also fly alongside her comrades, and change form in midair while also displaying power.

Superhuman strength:

It seems that when her confidence is regained she realizes who she is, A Sailor Tank.

In Classic, as a little 14 year old girl, she defeated several full-grown and possessed male bodybuilders with only one hit.

In R, the Phantom Droid used his sickle to split the ground apart causing heavy damage, but later Sailor Moon is able to block it with her own rod and send him flying back. Her power then lifts ChibiUsa up from the huge crack in the ground and place her safely down.

In R, a Droid captured all the Senshi in what looked like solid steel collars but Sailor Moon broke free first, even before Sailor Jupiter. I found that amazing.

Insane Destructive Output:

R movie, Sailor Moon (alongside the other Senshi) are seen destroying hordes of Kisenian demons using a destructive wave of power. A simple scepter swipe and the horde was being destroyed like balloons by Sailor Moon.

In reality, Sailor Moon and her allies are able to dismantle entire armies of henchmen in quick succession if needed.

She does this again in S season when hundreds of the liquefied daimon humanoids are attacking. While the Inners are destroying some good numbers, Sailor Moon does Moon Spiral Heart Attack once and basically clears the entire block like nothing.

Sailor Moon can seal/destroy alternate dimensions too.

Insane Protective Output:

So even though the Senshi vow to protect Usagi, Sailor Moon has almost unmatched protective powers and forcefields on her own without them. While characters like the Cures and even DBZ warriors have exceptional fighting skills against her, that is still pretty useless because you can't even touch her.

This might have been possible earlier when she was new to being Sailor Moon but by S, it really would be hard to lay a single hand on her if she displayed her true power.

In Classic she deflects a head on collision from Super Beryl and splits the top of an ice glacier without even touching it. Just pure power, that's all.

In the R movie, she repels Fiore after he grabs her brooch. This protective forcefield completely destroys the Kisenian Blossom parasite and cleanses Fiore and the power wraps around an entire asteroid too, one that is going full speed towards Earth. This is insane because asteroids typically travel 30,000 + kilometers per SECOND. Even so, during this huge amount of speed, Sailor Moon and the Senshi gather their power and are all standing straight up.

Funny note: Aluminum Siren also made the mistake of trying to grab Usagi's brooch with painful results.

Superior Healing:

Sailor Moon has a proven track record of healing powers that are exceptional. She is able to cleanse both regular civilians and powerful villains from evil influence. You have two choices, accept the cleansing or be destroyed by its counter effects.

Sailor Moon uses Moon Tiara Stardust to cure Shingo and several others.

Sailor Moon R (90's) heals the 4 Phantom sisters who were very evil and powerful.

Sailor Moon Super S movie: the Senshi lose their power and uniforms, but Sailor Moon restores their power in the fight. The flow of power also grants Peruru wings.

In Stars, Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss cures three Phages at once. I'm sure it could do an entire city of healing if need be.

Sailor Moon was able to resurrect her allies.

Time Manipulation/Recollection:

Sailor Moon is able to manipulate time.

She does so in the final episode of classic before Sailor Moon R.

In the R movie she projects memories into Fiore to show she was the one who gave Mamoru the rose, which he in turn gave Fiore.

Reality Warping:

Sailor Moon seems to have the ability to warp reality.

In the S movie she turns Luna into a human and allows Luna to fly with another human, who is more in awe than terrified, like a normal human would be flying at that height. Sailor Moon is a genie....

She reverses Nehellania's nightmare and allows her to "relive" her life all over again. Interesting....

Advanced Teleportation:

Sailor Moon seems to be able to teleport to almost any desired location she wants. In the 90's all the Senshi had to teleport together.

Sailor Moon and all the Senshi are able to teleport to the Moon in SM Crystal....and they are in space.... a place with no oxygen but walking around like they are in a museum. Chile.....

Also In Crystal, Black Moon, she teleports to the roof (with Venus) instantly to aid Makoto. It was just them so...that's interesting as well.

This is a lot. I'm not even going to go into Sailor Cosmos but it's insane how powerful they really are. The Inners themselves are also strong, even when they might not be "winning."

In Classic, Mercury did a Shabo Spray shield which dramatically reduced the temperature of the intense heat but it was still hot.

In Crystal, she withstood Berthier's water attack which would have probably crushed anyone else due to the pressure.

Mars also uses tactical telekinesis with her ofuda I believe. In the R movie she releases a wave of them which all target each person. From what I could see , she used the right amount and not a single target was missed in just one swoop.

I also want to assume that Mars Fire Soul Bird is an attack that goes toward the enemy normally but when Mars uses the power of her ofuda along with it, the Fire Bird gains basic intelligence, think independently, and is able to dodge enemy attacks. This is an amazing ability of Mars can add basic intelligence to her attacks. Mars Snake Fire with an ofuda might be deadly.

Mars also takes a direct hit from Koan's Dark Fire in Black Moon which has been shown to burn things right into ashes.

Jupiter can pick up full grown men in human form and she's only like 5'7, and just like Venus she is an exceptional athlete.

Venus is able to leap great heights in one bound, both in and out of Senshi form. She also appears to be quite strong as she has used Love-Me chain to subdue and drag enemies away.

In Super S movie when they are going against the BonBon babies. One of the BBB's hits Tuxedo Kamen and knocks him off the ground into the air right straight into the ship......but

Rei elbows one with enough power to knock it away.

Makoto hold one off with her bare hands but you can see it is pushing her back just to give an idea of how powerful the BonBon babies actually are. If they had fangs and claws it would be really something.

Minako kicks one and knocks it clean into an object.

The girls are interesting.

Even a single bullet can kill you if aimed at the right place of course, easily. Certainly knock the wind out of many others. Nobody watches a movie like about World Wars when people die from a single bullet and complains about them being weak people. Ordinary people would die far sooner than the Senshi would. The injuries they get are of a magnitude that would be many times worse than an Abrams tank rolling over you at 70 km/h. See how many people would get up from that. Oh, and the things they can do could easily destroy entire cities if they unleashed it full power if they weren´t careful.

If you are editing gravity, then you are doing things that would A put immense strain on your heart, your literal heart, to even pump your own blood (and would probably make you pretty numb in your limbs) and B would make you feel like you are carrying around at least your own body weight, if not more. Ordinary soldiers who are adult men who train for this normally carry around 35 kg of gear on a good day. If you double gravity, Usagi is probably carrying around an extra 50 kg, Mako probably another 65 at least. That on its own is immensely athletic. Plus, the air itself will become rather denser and more difficult to breathe and so you have less oxygen in your system to work with and the risk of hypoxia rises. And that´s assuming that they just doubled gravity, if not even worse. Futurama of all things had an episode on the effect of a planet with hypergravity that did pretty well on the struggles.

I showed a few other examples before. Neptune´s mirror shoots out water. A lot of it. A single cubic metre of water has the mass of a metric tonne, and to accelerate it to even a modest speed of 8 metres per second is already 8 kilonewtons of force (and by Newton´s third law, Neptune must be using the same force in the other direction to prevent the mirror from going anywhere), and it looks to me to be at least three times as fast as that. People forget how heavy water is, but anyone who is an engineer who deals with pipes carrying liquid knows just how much you must respect it unless you really enjoy having to repair broken pipes. Dousing someone even with just a firehose, which puts out much less water at much lower velocities than her mirror, makes it pretty difficult to do anything against that pressure. Now think about what happens if you put the power of a tsunami in her hands. A tsunami will very easily drag cars away and will destroy buildings, cities, cause landslides, and can kill hundreds of thousands of people in minutes.

Something I´m often thinking of is that Mother Nature´s own natural processes are a lot more energetic than humans ever realize. We apply tiny forces compared to what it can generate. The tides alone from a body that looks to be the size of a pill held at arms length and is almost 400 thousand kilometres away still causes tides and would be enough electricity for the world to live on if we could harvest it all. The Senshi harvest this kind of raw energy with lightning of Jupiter, hurricanes of ice giants like Uranus, the poison gas of Venus which Codename Sailor V even used once (and frankly chose to use an incredibly low dose just to kill some mosquitoes). Humans only began to tap into anything comparable in power 200 years ago with steam engines powered by coal, the cumulative energy of millions of years of plant and animal life and I guess with early gunpowder. Hurricanes release the energy of thousands of nuclear weapons that destroyed Hiroshima, a ten megatonne nuclear weapon detonated every 20 minutes has the same heat energy as a hurricane. Stars make the energy necessary to vapourize Earth and Jupiter and every other planet in our solar system thousands of times over every single second, fusing 4 million metric tonnes of hydrogen to helium per second (the matter that fissioned to destroy Hiroshima? The mass of a dollar bill) and our Sun is 99.86% of the mass of the solar system.

Ancient cultures worshipped many of these phenomena such as pestilence, harvests, lightning and thunder, birth, sexuality, the sun and moon, oceans, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanos, as gods, there simply wasn´t anything humans had like it in power, and to be honest, we still are nothing compared to their power. The Senshi are all meant to be named after these gods and planets, and in many ways evoke their literal power.

Look at a spectrum analysis of Mars´ fire. You can use the colour to judge it´s temperature given that they are directly linked. She puts off energy into the range of 4-6 thousand degrees Celsius (7,200-10,800 F). That would certainly ruin your day and end the concept of a day in the first place given that it would be the temperature of the sun which causes days in the first place.

How about thinking about what they must survive? I said before yesterday, but they survive the vacuum of space with its radiation and lack of oxygen to breathe in the first place, and actually, being roasted by the Sun (you think a 30 degree C day is hot? Try 120 degrees on the Moon. Seriously, it´s just that there is little to transmit it, but the Sun on an unprotected person will fry you easily in space given some time after an hour or two). And that´s before they see other villains.

Somehow the Starlights survive what happened to their planet, and if you look at what Galaxia did to other planet, you see craters. Big ones covering something like at least 10% of the diameter of the planet. The Chixculub impactor killed off the non avian dinosaurs and left a crater only 120 km in diameter, or 1% of the Earth´s diameter. These are the kinds of impacts that by all rights should make the surface for thousands of kilometres go to magma for a time and would nearly instantly kill everything on the planet. Forget the Death Star, this would leave the corpses of these planets as a far more intimidating show of force. If Galaxia wanted to destroy a planet, wouldn´t take much, Theia almost did to the Earth if it hit directly rather than at a grazing angle rather than form the Moon. Whatever she did to these places, it would by far be one of the most dangerous villains I have ever heard of. And if she is talking about galactic conquest, remember there are roughly 100-500 billion stars in our galaxy, most of which likely have planets, likely several each, and all the rogue planets too. A low estimate would be a trillion planets, if not ten times that many. A miniscule fraction of them could have sentients of billions of members of those species. 1% of a trillion, 10 billion, times a billion sentients, is ten quintillion people killed.

I also add that they reincarnate even if they do die, in a manner that probably makes them immortal. People have varyingly cautioned against and advocated for immortality. They might well live to see the Sun destroy the Earth in billions of years, the last red dwarf die, the last black hole evaporate until there is nothing left for them to reincarnate into having exhausted the atoms and protons in the universe to do so. That is immensely depressing. If they stop to think about this possibility, they would be freaking out, I know I had many nightmares like that about immortality.

even the inner senshi in the film related to the second series of the 90s destroyed enemies big time! I also remember (if i remember corrrectly) that in that film some senshi had been thrown against a telephone booth and a shop shutter, I would have ended up with all my bones broken and bled to death, while they have a lot of physical resistance.

Not to mention the powers that the senshi have in the manga, as well as those that Naoko would have liked to implement in the notes left on Nakayoshi and in one of the artbooks.
