One thing I still love about Funi is their writing.

Yeah I thought they did a great job with Dragon Ball Super. Colorful yet faithful.

I was watching the Ayakashi x Senshi clash dubbed into English (Viz) on YouTube these days, and the dubbed lines sounded like a stiff adaptation of sub dialogue IMO. I liked Sheh's performance, though.

Sheh sounded alright (tho her screams weren’t that good) I think Chibi USA was the best acted in that scene , but wtf was Rubens???? Overall the scene was okay , best part of it wasn’t even the acting it was the music

Rubeus sounded like a fandub of a generic anime villain.
Chibiusa sounded genuinely desperate and asking for help, though.

Steve Cannon was also just a miscast. He made Rubeus sound like a sissy fop. Rubeus needed to sound deeper and more aloof.

I cannot understand how they sound perfectly fitting in Crystal and despite being the same voices, sound so -so in the 90s show dub... I guess some of them simply have a lot less lines in Crystal, but Stefany sounds way better as Usagi in Crystal and she never sounds weird like in some episodes of the 90s.

I like Laura Bailey, but I'm not sure I'd want her as Usagi. She could make a good Minako, Ami, or Hotaru.

Her softer voice would work well with Ami or Hotaru, for sure. But I know she can do something a bit more "peppy", which would fit Minako.

Laura Bailey did a lot of peppy girl voices for Funimation (at least in Dragon Ball she seemed one of their go to’s for bit part female voices like Videl’s friend Erasa and Ranfan from the World Martial Arts Tournament and what’s her face from Penguin village) I could see her voicing Sailor Venus.

Now that I think about it Rial and Sheh have a similar timbre to their voice.

Just listen to her new Tohru take, she would be a perfect Ami, and I can see her doing a darker voice for Hotaru and she can go all the way doing a great Minako voice

I could see Tohru voice working for Ami or Hotaru. I think her Sana voice (Kodacha) would be great for Minako.

Now that I'm thinking about, even the limited talent pool back then would've brought more flavor than the actual VIZ cast...

Tiger’s Eye was already kind of a sissy tbh. Fish Eye may have been the outright gay femme boy but they were all fairly effeminate.

Viz is already woke back then, they were publishing woke things in the 2000s, Funimation is less woke.

I think if TOEI bought Funimation, they would be the ones doing the remake of Fruits Basket and Funimation would rereleasing Sailor Moon.

Most people were pretty positive and excited at the prospect of Funimation potentially getting the license. This was circa 2010-2012 so they had just done Dragon Ball Z Kai not too long ago, saved One Piece from 4kids, and done the well regarded Full Metal Alchemist dub not that long ago. Dragon Ball Z was their only black mark against them (both as a dub and how they handled the home media release) and to a lesser extent Dragon Ball GT (which was kind of a punching bag even without a crappy dub)

And like I said before Funimation SHOULD have gotten the license. Doing Dragon Ball gave them experience dubbing older shows that Viz seemed to lack. Supposedly one of the problems with the Viz dub is they’re
not use to dubbing older anime which is why Sailor Moon sounds fandubish. There was a 24 year gap between the first Dragon Ball movie’s release in Japan and the Funimation dub and it sounds great.



Yeah but anyone who hates on her for speaking out against being sexually harassed by a creep is kind of a turd sandwich and their opinions don’t matter.

Disliking her as a performer is an entirely different thing and is at least valid.

If that was also the case and Monica's spouse and ex BF also have a history of abse which also has not been called out, yet as far as we know, at least by her to the public, unless the "I love them, but want to be anywhere but here", as you hear Ron and/or just the kids crying and screaming in the background? Hope both Monica and Vic are the most innocent of the lot? Illich at least maybe trying to be a better person, by not repeating mistakes of the past according to their social media, but alchohol and/or so called "meds" never helps and can only make things worse if not addressing and only swallowing the pain down, until it maybe gets worse?

Yeah I don't get the hate for the ViZ dub either. It's filled with great voice actors...and the 90s Dub was always amazing.
At least the Viz Dub put all the Japanese names for the girls back in...and not that Americanized names from the 90s.... Although some of them were great.

I was slightly spoiled cause while I watched the 90s English dub with the American names... I had a friend who showed me the Sub versions at the same time... And she always told me that those are the proper names.

But as someone who has heard ALL of the Viz Dub VAs before. I can't complain.

Well I can complain about Shingo's Viz Dub Voice.

Nicholas Roye ((Voice of Chuuya in Bungo Stray Dogs)) is not a good fit for him. At all.

Do the Viz BDs still have that "Pink Tint Problem" or did they use other footage?

Watching the series on Toonami right now...I honestly can't tell. Sometimes I think maybe...and other times, it looks normal?
