Not sure if this is new, but does anyone else find it hilariously strange how the Sailors and everyone else are so radically different in design (not to mention the art/animation style in general), but then the Shadow Warriors / Great Youma drop in and they're all nearly identical to the anime? Feels like I'm watching some kind of weird crossover or spin-off. XDXDXD

Hi guys, this is RayMona! I actually used to use this website under a different and very very cringey 8 year old handle, that I think had "chan" in the title (oop)
I'm glad you enjoyed the doc and the Saban Moon reveal, and would just like to address some stuff going forward if that's okay!

To be honest, the initial comment I had made on twitter (that I deleted and was very quickly screenshotted), was done as a result of people pretty much pestering me into the ground via dm's once the video came out. I was already thinking about how I wanted to release the unwatermarked footage, but there had been some stuff going on around that time that made me just completely shut it down. When it blew up stuff was overwhelming.

Though I have been a creator for sometime, I was not use to that kind of reaction and did not expect the video to have done so well that fast. Like, everyone loves Sailor Moon, but I legit did not expect that. It went viral and sat on trending for 3 days straight which was pretty overwhelming to say the least, because I don't do these deep dives for that sort of attention. It was really cool, but idk if you can tell from how I choose to present my new stuff, but at heart I'm a filmmaker and its always been my dream to be more behind the scenes as a writer/director. ^_^'^_^' On top of that, I generally keep to myself in spaces now a days.

My relationship with the lost media community hasn't been good since I stepped foot in their space, and I say their space because, as much as I want to be a part of the community, it feels like every move I make to try to be ethical, is frowned upon. They literally want me to be a vigilante and disrespect people who source stuff to me. And it sucked :/ this all started when I had released my first documentary on the Mean Girls DS game and was disappointed to find out that I could only display footage as opposed to dumping the rom outright. This was shared to me in confidence with the dev himself (I still have the emails), which I had shared to the community as well. Because he had such close ties to the end pipe of the project, he was worried he'd look like a snitch to future/more professional developers. He had moved up to better employment at the time too. Apparently not too many people worked on the project (this is evident from the end credits in the gameplay footage) and he thought the odds of people guessing it would be him was too high, so he instead asked for me to post gameplay rather than dumping. And I respected that...But the lost media community? A lot of them tore into me, and while I didn't care that they were calling me a hoarder, they started using racial slurs and called me a monkey/gorilla several times on the subreddit and twitter :/ (which stayed up curiously for a very long time, with the mods doing nothing until people caught wind of the overt racism and almost did an article on it) And even though I had dumped the Clueless game, which was also lost, and had permission to do so, they always conveniently glossed over that to paint me like a monster.

Since then, its like they have 0 grip on reality when this is brought up, and instead of saying "oh wait, she can't actually dump the mean girls rom out of respect for the dev. Who would want to burn bridges with people who confide lost media?" They chose to complain and harass, even though gameplay was shown. I've always wanted to dump that rom (and still do) but the respectful thing to do had unfortunately painted me in such a shitty light. I was like the lost media punching bag despite finding something everyone thought didn't exist. I'm not going to betray the trust of a game dev so it sucks to see people bring up the situation and lie/misinterpret about what happened when they relate it to the Saban Moon ordeal.

In fact, people were still tagging me on reddit to call me a b*tch/monkey up until a few weeks ago:dead::dead:. It sucked for a while and it actually relates to this watermark situation:

My snap reaction was basically fueled by that at the time, and my plan originally was to release it watermarked, wait a week or so, and then post it to the archives. But with the video blowing up, and a lot of overwhelming factors to boot, unfortunately, when I had answered that person it just opened up the floodgates for more harassment. I actually regret that instantly because screenshot ninjas will always be there to take stuff and run with it. There had actually been some people upset at the proposed idea of waiting a bit when I brought it up in a more private lm chat, so at that point i just put my hands up and began blocking people that I felt were being aggressive or instigative :/ I block now out of habit when people try to instigate or pull stuff out of me, or try to gatcha me, its happened so much that I should be allowed to just block for my own sanity. It just reminded me of Mean Girls all over

I love finding lost media and I especially love the Sailor Moon community, and I'm really happy to see that everyone finally has that chance to view Saban Moon in all its glory! (And the memes have been awesome btw) but like a few people had mentioned in this forum, it actually was my plan to rereleased it unwatermarked after some time had passed. I was getting demands to post it unwatermarked within a few hours of its release, and if there's one thing I've learned, its that a vocal minority in the lm community doesn't seem to respect grace periods (I mean the footage got reposted within hours of the doc being outXD) but yes, to answer that question, I do plan to release it but just with some time, because I don't want the people who were so threatening and aggressive (enough so to send weird bot emails two days ago) to think, "oh wow all we have to do is bully her again!" If you spend enough time on the lost media forums, you'll find some of the heavy preservationists to be very aggressive and unreasonable, and will shame people until they get what they want.

The unwatermarked vid is being released for the girlies, because of the girlies. And by girlies I mean moonies LOL but I'd just like to take a bit of time first before I do, if that's alright!::love::::love:: I might actually dump it altogether with the next lost media video, as I've managed to get my hands on something a little early:mrgreen:

Oh and also, I always try as best I can to thoroughly credit my sources, when I realized a Saban Moon piece was actually a fan art, I made sure to amend that in the description of my video, and sent people her way over on twitter xD

I apologize to MementoNepenthe if I missed your comment or didn't take it into account, as I received similar emails/ messages in my discord about the library of congress during my search. There had been multiple people, which is why I said "some", but I really only looked into this at the end because I figured I wouldn't have any means to getting into a Washington library, being Canadian ^_^' (until I called them) These tip offs were even coming in well after I accessed the tapes.

Sorry for the essay message, but I really want to clear up stuff with this community specifically as opposed to twitter or reddit because I know you guys were not the judgmental ones that shot first without asking questions and had been a lot more patient throughout this whole thing (though I know maybe someone will screenshot this and make sure to send this to reddit to make fun of me over there. The racism left a really bad taste in my mouth) But again, this content is for the moonies, and that's why I'm passing it along here.

Thanks again!:mudkip:

How the hell did they manage to mis-match Venus, Mercury and Jupiter’s personalities so hard?

According to the actual 90’s anime canon it should be:

Mercury = smart
Jupiter = girly
Venus = fun
Maybe they were trying to make them closer to the Roman mythology? Mercury is known for being witty and a bit of a prankster, so Sailor Mercury is the fun one; Venus is the goddes of love and beauty, so Sailor Venus is the girly one; Mars is a war god, so Sailor Mars is the athletic one. Jupiter is the only one who doesn't fit, but his main personality trait is being a serial rapist, so I guess that wouldn't fly in a children's cartoon.

Thanks for the clarification. Don't worry about it at all! I wasn't sure if the "some" was just a figure of speech or if others had indeed pointed you in that direction. Truly, I'm just so happy and grateful that someone finally looked there, it's just, like I said, it's something I've been saying for several years now, so I was starting to feel like Cassandra :lol: (I'd also always assumed that, if the LOC still had the tapes, you'd only be able to view them on-site if you could get permission; I never imagined they'd release digital copies! So I definitely get why you saved that lead for last, and honestly, I think that was for the best because otherwise maybe you wouldn't have ended up with all those fascinating interviews::love::)

I'm also really happy you're still planning to release the unwatermarked footage. I'm so sorry you've had to deal with so much racism and entitlement from people (but, sadly, also not surprised). People have no chill, and no sense of whom to direct their frustrations at. If people want to play the Mean Girls game, they should petition whoever the rights holder is to release it, not racistly harass the person who was fortunate enough to be taken into confidence and allowed to share gameplay footage. Like... the audacity of some people.

You're incredibly talented and resourceful, and I can't wait to see what you uncover next. Keep up the amazing work! ::love::

Jupiter can be pretty cunning at times, and he is the father of Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, so I don't think Jupiter's being the smart one is too out of left field. Anyway, I think that's a pretty solid theory!

Hi guys, this is RayMona!
Nice to see you!

Thank you for the clarification and for sharing your story! I think waiting a few weeks and uploading the watermark-free footage to the archive is the best choice that satisfies the need for preservation and gives your video a chance to reach peak engagement (which is fair- you deserve it), but I understand the urge to just throw it in the archive with the watermark if people are harassing you to upload it sooner. It can't be easy to have so many eyes on you, and it's definitely not easy to have to withstand it in conjunction with racist, misogynistic harassment by the same people.

Thank you for uncovering this footage!!! You've really energized the Sailor Moon community in a way that hasn't happened in years. I added another American SM doll to my collection right after I watched part 2 lol

" but I understand the urge to just throw it in the archive with the watermark if people are harassing you to upload it sooner. " Yup! there was definitely a lot of brain fog happening at that time, especially with everything going on and all of the different notifications, I still haven't managed to post the music video version to my channel because I'm still catching up with everything and I'm also a tad tired of the inevitable angry messages. But today the buzz has died down significantly which I'm actually relieved about, it gives me time to think before I move:googly: xD

Thank you for all being understanding!! <3

That's definitely understandable. Getting shoved into the limelight on the internet overnight is a harsh and intense experience for anyone. It must have been deleted for a while by the time I saw it, and typically when someone does that on Twitter, it's usually because they had gotten backlash rather than immediately from regret after getting worked up. Something I'm guilty of, too. :sick:

OOF.

I hadn't seen any of those points brought up in regards to the DS game at all. The impression I was given was that you had been a big-name member for a while and had simply hoarded it like some of the worst archivists who sabotage actual preservation out of greed. That's entirely on me for not digging back even farther and had I known it was at the behest of one of the developers, I definitely wouldn't have brought it up. Those cases are very tricky, yet common with Video Game archiving and it sounds like the community's been play a game of telephone with that important part in the beginning removed by the originators of it in a scummy move.
Very sorry and disgusted to hear about the sexist/racist harassment you received, too. Even if you really had simply hoarded it, nothing justifies that s*** in any scenario.

Ah, so that *was* the plan all along! Thank you so much for the clarification.
It's totally understandable to want the documentary out for a while before posting the raw material, and it sucks you were rushed into posting it early by those freaks.

By the way, have you tried the Lost Media Wiki Forums? They've always seemed like a cool community whenever I browsed it. Hopefully there's no extremely militant members on there like Lost Media Forums or cesspools like Reddit.

In any case, I truly apologize for my harsh, overly heated criticism of you a few pages back in light of this. I should have given you much more benefit of the doubt. I won't ask you to forgive me, but please know that I'm deeply sorry and it was never my intention to contribute to any harassment if I did. And thank you very much for finding this pilot.

Hi guys, this is RayMona!
Hello Raymona! I left a message on your Youtube video and the Internet Archives upload, hope I wasn't bothering you. I think everyone agrees that it's totally fine to watermark content on your own channel - It's your documentary, you did the work and put in the effort, and it definitely paid off! It's just a bit of a faux pas to watermark content on the Internet Archives, considering the purpose is to preserve media in as close to the original form as possible. I'm sorry people have been so harsh with you on that front - it's definitely not deserved.

If you're not super familiar with VHS transfers and video/audio codecs (I'm definitely not), you might want to enlist the help of someone with expertise in that area in order to get the highest quality transfer possible.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Y'all have been the least hostile group I've encountered and Its actually very much a relief to be able to have a calm conversation about it for once. Something about sharp voices on twitter and reddit, everyone seems so ready to fight and accuse people, but this space feels a lot more welcoming and understanding (which i think is a unique thing about the sm community)

I dont' blame you for not knowing the full context of the mean girls stuff, especially since when they discuss it, they tend to rewrite history and ignore the explanation I had given to them about the dev (i even read his letter in part 2 of the mean girls video). I think hearing their take on it plus the watermark situation at first glance would have anyone a bit skeptical. I'm glad I was able to give clarity on it though I forgive you and again I'm also sorry to anyone who saw my response on twitter and thought the worst, def was more of a reactive comment xD

I'm actually not use to it being this peaceful probably because I've had my guard up on Reddit/Twitter for so long hahahah

Did anyone else catch that Beryl steals a line from Lord of the Rings lol?

Galadriel's speech in LOTR (book and movie), before she refuses the One Ring, ends with: All shall love me and despair!

And Beryl's speech in the pilot includes the line: Behold Queen Beryl and despair!

I have to assume this is a reference to LOTR, especially since they call the crystals the "Jewels of Power" lol

I know I’ve thanked you a ton of times already on Twitter (under my real name—anon here hehe), but truly @raymona , thank you for everything. I can’t imagine how overwhelming this all must be, between the success and the abuse, you have truly put yourself through the ringer for us.

As someone who suffers from burnout a LOT in my line of work, I hope you are able to take a moment to breathe and decompress, because I can’t imagine the excitement and stress that all of this has all brought on you.

Thanks again, and can’t wait to see what you’ve uncovered next :)
