My experience with Sailor Moon is funny.

• When I was a kid and the first season of Sailor Moon was broadcasted in Brazil (mostly uncut), there were fans who cried and/or felt depressed when Rei said that she wished she had kissed Yuichiro, episode 45.
• The remaining seasons were not shown in Brazil until the early-00s, and the people I spoke to unanimously shipped Rei x Yuichiro.
• At some point in the early-00s, people discovered that Rei wasn’t meant to be like in the 90’s anime at all. She was supposed to be a shy beautiful girl who did not trust men. She was supposed to have a mean father and be more like the girl we see in “Casablanca memories.”
• There was a shift of opinions and people started asking: “Who is this Yuichiro guy to begin with?” And the more people read the manga, the more they disliked the 90’s anime.
• Not that I think there is anything wrong with the 90’s anime (I think season 1 is a masterpiece), but it’s interesting to see how fans respond to new information that is presented to them. Nobody I know liked PGSM in the early-00s, but now people love PGSM and want PGSM to be officially released on DVD.
