Takeuchi doesn't make many public appearances and has been out of the spotlight for quite some time now. She's a very private person.

I could even say that she's already left the manga industry for years. :)

Maybe a little bit unrelated, but I really wonder if Naoko ever saw Madoka Magica and what she thought about it?

...She probably doesn't even know it exists, but I always liked to think of Madoka as the true spirtual sucessor to Sailor Moon because of its nature in appealing to both boys and girls, as well as revitalizing the genre. Sailor Moon's manga is just as dark as Madoka too.

That's right...! I even remember hearing that during the press conference. I wonder why that is exactly...?

Maybe she just likes to be with her family instead of bathing in the spotlight. ^_^

Well, that's just it: it's aimed at men.
But it's one thing to be aimed at men and another thing to portray the women in a sexist way.
That sounds interesting, I would like to see that interview. I wonder if she's a feminist, which would make me appreciate her a lot more. :p

You know, I always wondered how she felt about certain shojo anime and manga copying ideas and concepts from Sailor Moon? Did she feel flattered, embarrased, outraged? Did she want to sue but didn't cause she didn't want to cause an uproar in the shojo fandom? I've always wondered about that...

Personally, if I were her and some newcomer tried to rip off one of my ideas and characters I would sue the living daylights out of them. Fanfiction is one thing, but trying to make an original story with someone's extremely thought out ideas is just plain rude. And believe me, I have seen whole characters and situations in the shojo genre blatantly ripped off from Sailor Moon!

I wouldn't get too sue-happy. Most of what they "steal" was already in power rangers, wasn't it?
To some extent, but I kid you not I've actually seen non Magical Girl manga literally rip off Usagi and Mamoru's characters and the way their romance formed. It's not just the sentai aspect, but the characters, their personalities and the way situations and plot points evolve.

I bet she likes tons of shoujo. Her dream was to be a manga artist after all, it would be odd if she just suddenly stopped paying attention to all of that.

Somehow I doubt she would call herself a feminist, and if she did it certainly wouldn't be like the type of overzealous feminist we know in the west.

Take these pages from the Chibiusa picture diaries for example. Note how the villain is saying all the types of things western feminists say, and the heroine Chibiusa thinks she's wrong.

I hate when people think feminist are all man haters, I have never meant a feminist who hated men all had husbands, sons, fathers they loved dearley. I'm a heterosexual female who happens to be a feminist and could not imagine life without a man P-:
To me feminist is fighting for equality for both genders and doing what you want in life.
