If they do, I hope Naoko gives them notes, some of the 90s talent returns along with a competent studio that dedicates to the project, and then Naoko goes hands off, unless it's to clarify scenes or expand ideas. If indeed it was her decisions to make the dubs so awful, I'd rather her never touch a dub again.
In fairness, the Viz cast does a much better job with Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos than with the old anime, but the sudden introduction of honorifics in the movies was jarring and felt bizarre and out of place in other languages.
It's possible had these been included since season 1 it wouldn't be as bad.
I think the franchise works best with Naoko creating ideas and letting others clean them up.
For example, the battle with Iron Mouse...they spend most of the battle transforming. You'd imagine an epic fight is coming, but no.
They transform, they make speeches, then they just stand there gawking.
The outers attack and bust up computer mice.
Then Healer kills her. It's stupid. It wastes so much time for nothing.
I love the group transformation, but it was ultimately pointless the way we got it except to just see it one last time.
The fight should have been expanded. Same thing with each subsequent battle.
In the manga this more or less works...it's not ideal but on the time crunch Naoko was on back in the day, I get it. She was probably told: create x amount of generals and wrap up each fight in one chapter (Dark Kingdom she kind of got to flesh them out but she added WAY too many in later arcs so they were almost all 1 appearance and 1 shot kills.
This decision makes the other girls redundant.
Say what you will about the DK arc, but the first few chapters let the girls at least get some kills in. We didn't get that again until Dream Arc.
I think if Crystal had been a middle-ground it could have been amazing. As a 1:1 it lost any mystique the manga had and did not live up to the 90s anime, at all.
If a third adaptation ever does happen, you can bet Crystal will fade into obscurity as that weird reboot that kept changing styles.
I say this as a fan who has bought everything Crystal I can get my hands on. I want to support the franchise, it just isn't what it should have been.
