What's the future for Sailor Moon now?

I am repeating myself here… but if I had any power, which I don’t…

(1) Only Naoko Takeuchi would decide what to do with her Sailor Moon manga.

(2) Should a new arc be written by someone other than the original author, manga or anime, I would like it to be written by a writer with the caliber of Nanase Ohkawa (CLAMP) or Riyoko Ikeda.

I also would take Sailor Moon to a decent studio.

TOEI relied on Studio Deen to animate both Eternal and Cosmos, and Cosmos looks gorgeous from what I hear.

Tsugumi Ohba, I think his take on Sailor Moon will be interesting due to Platinum End.

Maybe Takeuchi could come up w/ her ideas, story framework, & character designs, & then let CLAMP execute it?

Clamp are likely too big for that role.

Manga writers in that kind of role aren't too known or popular.

Since when? Beside a couple of tribute back in the day when SM was super mainstream they didn't really care about NT.

Unlikely to happen because CLAMP has a lot of unfinished manga to care about before they do a collab with Naoko although I would like for that to happen.

Keeping that in mind, I would say it’s even more impressive when you stop and look just how far CLAMP went in order to keep up this car theme going throughout all of the MKR universe. Someone in their office was clearly something of a car enthusiast in order to pull up such obscure references like Ukrainian, Chinese, and South Korean car manufacturers.

I am not criticizing PGSM fans or saying that PGSM is bad (it is not)…



… but the Sailor Moon fandom seems to be a fandom with shifting views and perspectives.

Back in the early-00s, it was virtually impossible to say anything remotely positive about PGSM without being mercilessly attacked online.

PGSM was never my cup of tea, but I have always praised the depiction of Rei in PGSM because it was closer to the manga—and if you madd a small positive comment about the PGSM back in the day, people would get very angry at you. “Are you defending PGSM?”

Also, in the early-00s, the manga was highly praised and everyone wanted an adaptation of the manga.

So I left the fandom because I was busy studying …

I returned to the fandom a couple of years later.

”Have you seen PGSM? It is so good,” a fan tells me. “

What?!” I reply, confused.

And then I joined this forum, and by the time that I joined this forum everybody loved PGSM. I was really surprised!

And then Crystal got announced, and we didn’t know exactly what we were getting, but Crystal provoked a strong reaction in the fandom…

The manga adaptation people wanted in the early-00s?

TOEI delivered it, but the difference is that I think you can’t say that it flopped like PGSM did. Crystal generated a third season and two theatrically released films animated with the assistance of Studio Deen.

• Will fans embrace Crystermos like they embraced PGSM?

I guess we’ll find out in 5 to 10 years.

Also, I still retain the impression that PGSM is loved mainly by ”hardcore fans,” the same fans that appreciate the musicals.

If PGSM had a market in the West, then a company would have secured its rights to distribution on DVD and BD and this has not happened yet.

As for the “future” of Sailor Moon, I think it is being shaped right now like PGSM’s future was.

Fans will decide whether or not they like Crystermos and that may take time.

If we are lucky, a Netflix adaptation may happen.

I would not say Sailor Moon is “over.”

It may not have a market in Japan (I don’t know), but it does have a strong market here in the West.

Subaru is named after a car and Mamoru and Seishirou use the same Kanji.
CLAMP likely has lots of cars given or funded by Viz, Kadokawa, and Kodansha/Tokyopop, As I remember that you can actually drive American cars unchanged in Kansai area...
The former member of CLAMP who was fond and knowledgeable of Western names left CLAMP so CLAMP had to find an easy way to find names.

I also want the 2nd season and the existing OVAs to be released here in North America (we just got the 1st season).

I think one of CLAMP’s greatest triumphs from this decade was having xxxHolic turned into a film, a film directed by Mika Nigakawa.

Although I make jokes about a Chibi-Usa led series I'd personally rather have that than Dark Kingdom retelling entry #245.

If they do reboot it again from scratch, hopefully they update it with a PGSM edge.

They should give us:
Sailor Moon: Silver Millenium

Either a prequel series or a brand new series. If they go the prequel route it'll focus on the Inners/Outers fighting evil up to Beryls surprise attack.

If its a new series, its a total reboot that takes place during the SM, on the Moon Kingdom where Princess Serenity suits up and takes her team to defend the universe from evil as her mother still rules or is captured.

That could be done yet again w/o boring fans to death - just reinterpret its story & make Beryl & the Dark Kingdom protagonists & Moon/Serenity & her guardians antagonists, w/ the title "Evil Soldier Sailor Moon."
