Has anybody thought about this? In what time period will Crystal be set? The '90s like the original source, or will it be an updated version set in contemporary times? Which period setting would you prefer?

The staff will make a new world feeling with the current technology.

It taking place in the modern day (or at least with modern technology), is already confirmed. :)

As for how I feel about it...I'm fine with it. I will kind of miss the 90sness I know and love of the series, but seeing a modern version sounds like a nice change of pace. I imagine it might make for some fun Youmas and character moments as well. XD

Oh, okay. I guess I missed that announcement.

Yeah, I'd prefer a modern retelling. Too much '90s can be such an overkill.

My only issue with it being set in the present is that now Chibiusa will be from 900 years in the future rather than 1000 years. (900 just feels more random than 1000 to me.) But of course that's a very minor issue.

Not certain that we'll get to Chibiusa in this first arc. I'm betting they only do the Dark Kingdom for now and then see how it plays out if they will continue on with R.

It's been 100 years since the 90s?!

I think it can still be fudged and we can still say Chibi's from 1000 years in the future. P-:

Wouldn't that go against timeline consistency, though? If this continuity was to be set in modern times, then Chibusa should definitely be 900 years from the future. :P

What wasn't Chibiusa 900 years old anyway.
That's just her age.

I mean, it's not like the old anime will suddenly cease to exist. If you miss the 90s-ness, just watch an episode of the 90s show.

I'm curious to see if they've updated any of the gadgets the way "PGSM" did, like the bracelets and mobile phone transformers. I wonder... 'Moon Power' smartphone app, perhaps?

It'll be cool to see them all in modern day fashions when not in school uniform/senshi outfits.

I sure the bracelets will be, but not so sure about the disguise pen. Naoko does love PGSM so I wouldn't be surprised if they went with it, but since they want to be manga-faithful I'm guessing we'll get the disguise pen.

Nothing wrong with keeping the Disguise Pen as is. People still use pens these days. :mischief:

I actually kinda liked the disguise-phone thing in PGSM.
Yeah, it worked really well. The whole 'use the camera to snap a pic of the outfit to transform into' was clever. But I'd gladly welcome the disguise pens back.

Exactly, personally I'm hoping they'll keep it. Nothing against the cell phone thing (I thought it was quite clever actually), but I think it works better for a live-action show than an anime. Not to mention I think it's a bit more limiting than a magical pen. (since you need to be able to snap a picture of what you want to turn into)

What is this "pen"?

Personally, I'm all for the iPad transform approach. Pull out the 'ol iPad, hold down the home button and ask Siri to transform.

Usagi: Moon Prism Power, Make Up!
Siri: I'm sorry Usagi, I don't know..."Spoon Prison Flower Makeup." Would you like me to search the web?

Eh? Anyone?
