Has anybody thought about this? In what time period will Crystal be set? The '90s like the original source, or will it be an updated version set in contemporary times? Which period setting would you prefer?
It taking place in the modern day (or at least with modern technology), is already confirmed.
As for how I feel about it...I'm fine with it. I will kind of miss the 90sness I know and love of the series, but seeing a modern version sounds like a nice change of pace. I imagine it might make for some fun Youmas and character moments as well.
My only issue with it being set in the present is that now Chibiusa will be from 900 years in the future rather than 1000 years. (900 just feels more random than 1000 to me.) But of course that's a very minor issue.

Not certain that we'll get to Chibiusa in this first arc. I'm betting they only do the Dark Kingdom for now and then see how it plays out if they will continue on with R.
Of course we don't know the *exact* year Chibiusa is from, but the 30th century would be a thousand years (or 10 centuries) after the 20th century. Now it's just nine centuries after the 21st century.
Wouldn't that go against timeline consistency, though? If this continuity was to be set in modern times, then Chibusa should definitely be 900 years from the future.

I'm curious to see if they've updated any of the gadgets the way "PGSM" did, like the bracelets and mobile phone transformers. I wonder... 'Moon Power' smartphone app, perhaps?
It'll be cool to see them all in modern day fashions when not in school uniform/senshi outfits.

I sure the bracelets will be, but not so sure about the disguise pen. Naoko does love PGSM so I wouldn't be surprised if they went with it, but since they want to be manga-faithful I'm guessing we'll get the disguise pen.

Yeah, it worked really well. The whole 'use the camera to snap a pic of the outfit to transform into' was clever. But I'd gladly welcome the disguise pens back.
Exactly, personally I'm hoping they'll keep it. Nothing against the cell phone thing (I thought it was quite clever actually), but I think it works better for a live-action show than an anime. Not to mention I think it's a bit more limiting than a magical pen. (since you need to be able to snap a picture of what you want to turn into)
