Cosmos is the "official" one, based on the last arc of the manga. Everyone is killed, but revived; Chaos is revealed to be the origin of Metalia, Wiseman, Pharaoh 90, and Nehelenia. Sailor Moon destroys them in a less epic battle than MLP has done multiple times, but it will reincarnate in the distant future as Sailor Chaos and, best I can gather, kill everyone except Future Future Sailor Moon, a.k.a. Sailor Cosmos, who won't revive them coz Sailor Chaos will just revive, Sin style (FFX, but with no way around it), condemning her to eternity without everyone she cares about and fighting Chaos endlessly.

Eternal reveals that Nehelenia cursed Silver Millennium resulting in its destruction by Metalia and Beryl. After a menacing moment where she nearly wins, there is an epic scene with an awesome song (though some found it too cute and lighthearted) where all the Sailor Guardians, Tuxedo Mask, even the cats come together to empower Sailor Moon to destroy Nehelenia in a much more climactic conclusion than Super S. So, my vote goes to it.

If you dislike Crystal altogether, don't trash-talk it under this post. This is intended for fans of Crystal, and while I will respect your opinion if you dislike Crystal, saying it under this thread won't sound good to anyone this thread is specifically intended for.

Oh, and I just looked up the English cast, Kari Wahlgren (Phosphora and Ashe) does the voice of Chaos, so I'm guessing Chaos is female. Makes sense because Sailor Chaos

even though both movies are far from being perfectly rendered, I have always thought that the 5th narrative arc of the manga is the worthy conclusion of a fantastic story, cosmos is already an upgrade compared to eternal so it fits.

in the manga when chaos is disguised as wiseman speaking to Galaxia she literally tells her that she is her mother, so there is no doubt, she is female!

I'll respect your opinions but I like my stories to have a happy ending and Cosmos will be anything but for Sailor Moon, even if it's long after Wiseman's defeat.

Cosmos, like the manga, got more inconsistencies with previous story and the other senshi were like nothing. But it feels far much more like a final epic showdown. Also I love the Michiru funny moments in the beginning.

Eternal got more other senshi development, less retcon, but the fight was the most disappointing one among the 5 arc. Nehelenia doesn't feel like a menacing figure at all and the fight was meh. Same with SUPERS(the beginning of STARS kinda filled up a bit).

I like the ending of the manga. It offers a temporary happy ending before things go bad.
We have a story about the past, the present, the future and beyond the future we know. The heroine will never know eternal peace.
A bittersweet ending.

After all, Usagi doesn't know exactly what's in store for her. Chibi Chibi only tells her: an eternal fight with losses but remains vague. So Usagi engages in a fight without knowing what exactly is in store for her.

If she could defeat her with relative ease every time she awakens either with minimal loss or her able to revive it and there is like a hundred years or so of peace between revivals (so it's more like Ganondorf than Sin), I could live with it.

I will take Cosmos.
The ending of Eternal is very bland and in some ways, worse than the manga. At least the manga had some feeling of gravity facing Nehelennia and she seemed a bit more threatening. (again, I think this is due to our minds doing all the heavy lifting and filling in the blanks.)

On the other hand, nothing that happens in Eternal even matters in Cosmos outside of Eternal Sailor Moon and, even that's not very relevant.
The girls being princesses, the girls powering up TWICE...it didn't matter. They're mostly impotent against the new enemies, just as they've been in every arc since the first. It kind of feels like there's an arc missing in between.

But I do think Cosmos is the better film and as much smack as I talk, I do think it's probably, along with s3, the most enjoyable the reboot has been (unless you like anyone not named Sailor Moon, of course).

As for you being put off by Usagi's eternal battle, I don't think that's a reason to skip it. The ending is the same whether one watches it or not. And Usagi's speech is to give hope to Cosmos and everyone else. So while yes, Cosmos returns to her time to continue the fight, she goes back with hope and the belief that Sailor Moon is correct.

There's also nothing that says she won't be reunited with her loves ones eventually, and things can get better.
The mess that the Cosmos/Stars story is still gives hope. It's not as good as the 90s message, but it's also not a bad one. The writing is bad. The situation is bad, yes, but Usagi and Cosmos choose to not give up hope.

I don't agree with the people who thing this is total horror and despair.
I also don't agree that she forces destiny on the other girls. I revel in joking about it, but I never truly get the sense at the Cauldron scene that she forced this choice on them, they all would have chosen to go back to Earth and continue their lives. (well, maybe everyone except Pluto because wow does that woman always get the short end of the stick, ironically.)

Cosmos is marginally better as a film and it did perform the feat of making me simply dislike an arc I've always wholeheartedly hated. Still, because it's asking for our preference and not the best one, I'll go for Eternal. Despite its bland final battle, at least it didn't keep pelting new characters at me every three or four minutes and I got to follow the characters I actually cared about.

Eternal dragged so badly with the inners' subplots in part I. And that crappy final battle with random castle names shouting in Part II...
Cosmos is another trainwreck, but at least the plot keeps moving. It's no use having everyone around if all they do is say purincessu and sera mun every 5 minutes.

I actually kind of like the inners' section in part one. The plot didn't move on but it was minimally entertaining. But I'll agree with you on the final battle though, and it baffles me that some fans consider it to be a better climax than the final episodes of SuperS.

As for Cosmos... The plot keeps moving, but the parade of random characters coming up from nowhere only to die thirty seconds later is a bore, and everything happens too fast for me to care about what's going on. I'll take inconsequentially entertaining over plot-relevant dull alienation anytime.

Guess the VAs had earned their money easily in it (if they didn't care about job satisfaction)?
If they thought Eternal was bad, Cosmos had it in for them, poor gals...

When the plot doesn't move, they say it's dragging; when it moves, they say it's too fast - these fans can never be satisfied. :ninja:

That and despite the Inners focused, it STILL feels like they didn't shine enough or develop enough to make me care.

Sailor Moon as a franchise has the tendency to either go unbearably slow or dizzyingly fast, there's usually no decent balance. But too slow is usually the lesser of two evils as far as Sailor Moon is concerned. That's why you won't see me berating the pace of SuperS, even though I recognise it is far from perfect.

That and despite the Inners focused, it STILL feels like they didn't shine enough or develop enough to make me care.
They absolutely didn't shine or develop enough, but I'd still rather watch them than the Starlights.
