S1/S2 with the budget it deserves...so this (minus the CGI)

Lord, I think that's the ugliest style I've seen for Princess Serenity ... Those eyes, that head, everything's ugly!

For me, the Eternal style is perfect for the whole series. But if we had to stay consistent, season 1 and 2. Season 3 being the ugliest of all ultimately.

Talking about Designs, I prefer the Simplified Eternal Outfits in the Manga over the rejected Sailor Stars 90s Eternal Outfits design which they imposed on the Eternal Movies.

The whole point of this reboot is to adapt the manga, not to remake the 90s anime.
Adapt the Manga yes, but they put in the rejected visuals for the Eternal Forms for the Sailor Stars Anime in the 90s in Eternal instead of the Simplified Designs of the Manga Eternal forms.

I think Eternal and its sequel are attempting to correct the Mistakes and the follies of the production of Super S and Sailor Stars in the 90s in this case, I don't think it is wrong but it is more easier to adapt the more simpler style from the Manga.

They are simply adapt the manga while putting 90s ellements. Otherwise it has been adapting the manga for 4 seasons. The Eternal forms have already been shown in this continuinity so why keeping up false hopes... Like I told u before, accept it for what it is or you will spoil your experience... Eternal is Crystal season 4 not 90s 2.0v.

That is not what I am trying to say but I think they were kind of implying and admitting in their actions that the 90s Super S and Sailor Stars Anime were a mistake.

Although the issue with the rejected 90s Eternal design is that it is more difficult to animate than the actual manga design, I like the Pink Heart in ESM and the simplified Eternal designs of the Manga.

Even making the fourth season a movie is basically based on Eastern superstition of four is an unlucky number meaning that they are trying to avoid the mistakes of 90s Super S and Sailor Stars so we might likely have an SMC5 after SMC3, or rather they are trying to find a way to skip the number 4 like what buildings in East Asia do which is skipping number 4 and 13 in-floor numbers.

One two-hour movie for stars can be done actually since the only changes needed for the manga storyline of stars was the missing flashbacks i.e. the fate of Kinmoku Senshi and the cats after Usagi melted to the cauldron plus I think since TOEI is focused on Precure, I think that is a fair compromise.

I quite like the original styles they used. also the season 3 style. I am sad that in eternal they went more towards anime look especially in the tiara because I love the thin tiaras and always thought the wide ones look a bit clunky. Also would have liked it if they kept saturns tiara gem black like in the original illustration. ( Also sailor pluto is too pale) enough

I'm with you. I love the movement and fluidity of the animation - it's gorgeous. But the character designs, to me, look worse than actual Crystal S1/2 when it actually looked on-design.

They should have hired Kazuko Tadano from the start because even though her designs do look a smidge younger than how they should appear in the fourth arc, they would have been perfect for the Dark Kingdom. When Naoko redrew the panels from the Dark Kingdom arc she made Usagi and the others look slightly plumper and younger, which means she fully intended for them to look like middle school girls in the first place...

And then with each arc they should have either asked Tadano to draw the girls a bit older as they begin to mature, or even get another character designer to build off her work.

yeah season 3 is the ugliest still.
I agree! The designs might look good for animation, however, the Inner Senshi all look hideous!!

I feel like starting with Ms. Tadano might cut some corners, however, she's the character designer the fandom is familiar with. Therefore, having Ms. Tadano as the first character designer would spare Miss Yukie from harassment and death threats that she does not deserve whatsoever.

It should have been the 90s anime design or a well executed design similar to sakou and the manga. a more etheral style.

I unfortunately can‘t say about any of the reboot designs that I love them. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Sakou: + hair, fabric, rich in details - eyes, body proportions, lack of expression

Takahashi: + they look strong/they pop - eyes, head shapes, profiles, hair bubbles, rough

Tadano + eyes, balanced proportions - too young, noses, stiffness/lack of dynamic, simple

Takahashi's looked just as young if not more than Tadano. Plus they looked like boys. And you forgot to mention the deformed legs and the lovely 5 meter mouths and his noses were way worse as well...

They simply should have asked Tadano from the start giving her the direction they gave to Sakou. Sakou's rough parts were due to the fact this was her first design job. Tadano could have done a nice etheral style they initially wanted a lot better. With nice proportions and eyes. Once Yukie was out they could have tried Tadano, but no we had to suffer through Takahashi. If she was brought back for s 3 she might have tried to modify the s1-2 designs.
