I mean, not just shipping. Even for team-ups. I saw one fanfiction (Crystal Points) that did it really well. They both seem like the two Guardians that most enjoy their duties, both are passionate romantics and both have had romances end poorly. Also, both strike me as liking fighting a bit too much.

I can honestly see Minako/Ami, Rei/Mako and even (90’s anime) Rei/Ami more than I ever could Minako/Mako. I don’t know, their dynamic always just gave me hard buddy vibes and nothing else.

Well in the 90s anime Minako is definitely straight contrary to what some Reinako fans might think. I mean she even admitted when she found out Yaten's true form was a girl that she lost interest. I would even make the argument that while I personally consider all of the Inners straight that she is the straightest among them.

Honestly of the main Sailor Moon Senshi the only ones who I could see possibly being with women besides of course Haruka and Michiru as they are all ready with one another are honestly Setsuna and Hotaru. Because in Setsuna's case the only person we ever saw her having a crush on was King Endymion aka Mamoru but obviously she would never make a move on him because she knows he is with Usagi/Neo Queen Serenity and thus respects their relationship and Hotaru mainly because well I don't know if Hotaru was ever depicted as having a crush on anyone in the series so she could be straight, bi, lesbian etc who knows?

You’re right about Minako being completely straight in the 90’s anime but none of the other Inners are straight in the 90’s anime. Mako is outright canonically bi since she has that one episode of crushing on Haruka while knowing she’s a woman, Ami is likely bi/pan too since she blushed when she first met Mako and is ship-teased with her a lot. Rei is likely bi since Ikuhara was gunning to ship her with Usagi, she flirts with Haruka even after finding out she’s a woman and we have this totally heterosexual scene here:

To say nothing of Usagi who blushes when she first meets Rei and still continues to harbor feelings for Seiya even after finding out about their genderfluid status. In the Manga however Mako and maybe Ami appear to be the straight ones, Mako is also the only straight one in PGSM.

Setsuna is actually one of the girls I would ping as straight because of her unrequited feelings for Endymion and no one else. This only applies to the Manga and Musicals of course, whereas in the 90’s anime she honestly reads as aro-ace. I could see her potentially being into women though since the fandom likes to headcanon that she’s in a Poly OT3 with HaruMichi, especially in the Manga where all three are wearing wedding rings.

Hotaru is obviously WLW and might even be an outright lesbian in the Manga since we see she clearly has feelings for Chibi-Usa there and no one else, meanwhile I think she might be straight in the 90’s anime since her ship-tease with Chibs is toned way the [BLEEP] down and there’s that one episode of her clearly crushing on that male star athlete.

Chibi-Usa is bi/pan in both 90’s anime and Manga/Crystal (in the 90’s anime she crushes on Tamasoboro when she thinks he’s a girl and in the Manga/Crystal she has her thing with Hotaru) and Mamoru is also potentially bi/pan in the 90’s anime due to his connection with Fiore and they would’ve probably gotten together at some point if Usagi had never come into his life.

While I think Fiore was outright in love with Mamoru, I never got the same vibe from Mamoru, I like that nowadays gay people are way more accepted, but there is this notion you cannot have close same sex platonic friends. Kind of reminds me of this:

Reinako is more of a Takeuchi thing...Reinako is indeed impossible in the 90s anime.

I am glad that we have Reinako clones in anime.

But isn't ReiSako a bit of a pointless ship - I mean it is obvious for fanservice, even gay-bating as they will never be together, while Reinako could potentially happen, we simply doesn't know, but there is no reason for it to be considered a futile fanservice ship. 90s shows in a nutshel - they had really terrible original ideas but executed them rather well.

I really find ReiUsa a weird ship compared to Reinako, MichiUsa would also be okay but that would be more of a modern Yuri pairing, I.E. the Main pairing of Simoun resemble Michiru and Usagi.

Everything with Usagi is completely pointless as we know exactly who will marry, and their daughter and their future for 10 centuries into the future :D I can see why gay people are so burnt when it comes to media - they are doing a bunch of gay-bating or whatever lgbt baiting, only to say - well, they are straight anyway. At least with Michiru and Haruka it is as clear as Mamoru/Usagi.

Actually, Sailor Moon inspired many yuri writers...that is the positive side of shipping.

Yes, Reinako is Naoko’s thing while Reisagi was Ikuhara’s ship. Just like how all the yaoi ships in the 90’s anime were Ikuhara and maybe also Sato’s idea.

It may have been pointless but that didn’t stop Ikuhara from showing his bias. It may not have ever had a snowball’s chance in hell of being endgame, but gosh darn it Ikuhara was going to do everything in his power to get the audience to ship it and hate Mamoru - hence the unflattering light he’s painted in the 90’s anime.

By the way, this is also why I hate the concept of SeiUsa in the 90’s. Outside of the fact that they changed Seiya into being a manipulative douche, the whole ship itself was pointless since everyone knew Usagi was set in stone to end up with Mamoru anyways and that was that. (They’re the only ship in the entire franchise that Naoko makes sure is “untouchable/unchangeable” and is consistent across all versions)

So why did they decide to invent an absolutely asinine love triangle that was only a minor plot point in the Manga and would never go anywhere and focus the majority of the last season on that instead of oh I don’t know —— The actual plot and lore?

See this is why I have Stars as my least favorite season even over SuperS, as bad as SuperS was at times, at least it could be treated as a side-story/sort of spinoff series focusing on Chibi-Usa. Not so for Stars, this was meant to be the finale of the anime and that’s why I’m as harsh on it as I am.

…Whut? As in Michiru/Usagi? That’s probably the most improbable Senshi/Usagi pairing of them all besides like Hotaru/Usagi. (Literally the only way I can see them together is in a Poly OT3 with Haruka in the Manga/Crystal) How’d you come up with this ship?

Everything with Usagi is completely pointless as we know exactly who will marry, and their daughter and their future for 10 centuries into the future :D
To be fair, depending on how you interpret the Manga’s ending, you could make the case that the Senshi all technically marry Usagi in the end and are her own personal harem. :P
