So...? One of them has buns, the other has flowy hair. That is it. The only thing of to justify the pairing is that Michiru is the
female equivalent of manga Mamoru. I still don't see Usagi x anyobe but Mamoru as a valid ship once the Black Moon arc is done.
I think Michiru and Usagi inspired the main characters of Simoun so some people see some chemistry between the two.
I think if anyone is the female Mamoru it is Manga Galaxia or Materials Collection Galaxia.

Not in that way, but technically she kind of is - especially in the 90s show, they like the same music, they are both rich, upper classy, if Mamoru was female - she would have been Michiru. If they make Michiru a guy she might not be Mamoru, but if Mamoru is to be a girl, if they wanted to make him a a female character - he would have been Michiru like kind of a chick. This is what I mean.

While I can definitely see Michiru as the female version of Mamoru I can’t say the same for Haruka being Usagi’s equivalent, as she’s much too cool & suave for Usagi to ever live up to, so the two couples don’t quite mirror each other.

. I still don't see Usagi x anyobe but Mamoru as a valid ship once the Black Moon arc is done.
And yet the 90’s anime still continued to tease us with both SeiUsa & Reisagi and the Manga/Crystal with Haruka/Usagi.

Don’t forget both have them having a sixth sense & psychic abilities!

Is my memory wrong or this is the only episode these two are together alone in a scene?
Hmm, now that you mention it, I can't think of any interactions they have outside of in groups and no team-ups. This is odd considering they got paired up on merch and for promo art. Though a few of the examples of them standing side by side in group shots could be due to the manga art being adapted.

I think the manga tricks us into remembering things different in the anime and vice versa. I'm pretty sure it was almost always Minako and Makoto paired up in episodes where Mars and Mercury had mostly solo episodes and rarely ever teamed up except for a few times Ami and Mako did.
Ami/Minako episodes must be the rarest though...outside of Ami correcting Minako's mistakes do they have any interactions?

They pair up for one moment during the SuperS episode where they’re trying to investigate Chibi-Usa’s love life. Leading to one of the anime’s most hilarious exchanges where Ami mistakes Minako’s Horse face metaphor for a “hung dick” lol.
