Don't worry, they haven't seen it yet. Once they do, you know it will be their new favorite. How could it not be?

This year would have been the perfect time right after Cosmos to have announced a new version in this style.
I would love the old one with subs on Blu Ray, but I'd also love a new version with this kind of care in story.
I think I could sit through the DK arc yet again if they did a new PGSM.
We'll have to wait till the 35th anniversary.

Oh honey...have you seen tokusatsu series of that era and before? Hilariously bad effects and ridiculous costumes are part of their charm
The magical girl tokusatsu shows from the 80s and early-90s were written as comedy shows.

PGSM feels more like a drama/telenovela than a comedy.

I think adapting the Sailor V manga into a tokusatsu and embracing Minako as the funny character she has always been would have been a much better idea.

It's no longer the 80s nor early 90s - audience tastes have changed muchly, for the better or worse, since then. So if a Sailor V tokusatsu were produced these days, the vibes & feels would be very different even if it was still a comedy.

The only tokusatsu shows I watched were Poitrine and PGSM. Poitrine was comedy.

I did watch a live action version of xxxHolic, but xxxHolic felt closer to a polished drama than to a tokusatsu series, in my opinion.

That's why PGSM is so appealing, it is still a comedy but also very dramatic. If it had dropped either of those completely I doubt it would have held my interest...
But the drama was the best part, those closeups and that dramatic music.
Watching Queen 'Berry'* and Jadeite get 'berried' alive together is one of my favorite Sailor Moon scenes ever.
It's not my favorite version of SM, but it's probably the best written.

*my early 2000s bootleg of the show referred to her as Queen Berry, throughout.

Many aspects of Rei’s life, including her relationship with her father, were handled extremely well in PGSM. Of all the characters, Rei was the one that got the most interesting episodes.

Queen Beryl and Kunzite were great, but that’s because the actors delivered great and believable performances.I suspect the performers were the only trained actors with actual acting experience.

Usagi only became interesting after she transitioned to Princess Sailor Moon. Mio was more interesting than Usagi and Mio is a character that I actually would welcome in a future anime adaptation.

One of the directors (unlike the script being written by only one person throughout the entire series, there're multiple directors of the show) especially loved to have close-up shots on the mouth of the characters. lol

There're actually (very) experienced actors in the show, such as the one playing Rei's father, among others, tho they're playing non-regular supporting roles. :)

Oh yes. I love the part where PGSM :rei: goes ice queen Meryl Streep on PGSM :ami: and PGSM :ami: was close to going all Christina Crawford on her. Close. At that very moment it felt like a mini crossover of 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Mommy Dearest'. :googly:

*Insert Street Fighter 2 Versus Music :pirate:

Queen Beryl's story was so well executed in PGSM. I found myself rooting for her at one point. Her relationship with Jadeite sealed the deal for me.
Mio was interesting because of the unanswered lore around her imo; just where did Beryl's consciousness stop in her mind? Did she have any influence on her actions? Was Mio even her own complete being when she was killed off? How exactly did she return in the special act?
Considering Tux looks like Batman, did she inherit her smile from the Joker?
...
Okay just kidding for the last one, but yeah, characters like her could possibly have a whole spinoff dedicated to them.

She looks like a typical Toei tokusatsu magical girl: lol
