Origin
A long time ago, before the Moon Kingdom or any kingdom of any sort, I was the benevolent ruler of humanity. I would circle the skies, riding on the Great Dragon. There was no evil, no night, no darkness whatsoever--only peace and harmony. I was the source of all light, brighter than my son, Helios(what you call the sun, not that Pegasus), my daughter, Selene(the moon), or any of their attendants(the stars). The humans worshiped me wholeheartedly, singing my praises at all times. It was a complete state of paradise, but unfortunately, paradise didn't last forever.
One day, Helios asked me if he and his sister could ride the Great Dragon. I allowed them to do so but warned them that they must hold the reins to the dragon tightly or else it will fly away to a place beyond their reach. Alas, the inevitable happened and the dragon broke free of my son's control, throwing off the reins in the process. The dragon flew away and the powerful reins fell to the Earth. Selene and Helios both returned to me with tears in their eyes, and I forgave them for their error but I had no idea that the turmoil was about to begin.
A man picked up the reins that had fallen to Earth and immediately became infused with power. At first this was seen as a blessing, and all praised me all the more. But soon, some became jealous of this man, while others worshiped him instead of me. Through their devotion this man grew powerful, too powerful and started to lust for it. He fed off not only their praises, but their new, negative emotions and energy as well to gain even more power until finally he challenged me. Of course, my Light power and his Dark power were opposite in nature so it was destined for us to battle. With Helios and Selene by my side, I was able to subdue the Darkness, but I had used up all my strength and started to lose my power.
Upon my "death" I instructed Helios and Selene to patrol the Earth, and not to let Darkness overwhelm it. Each decided to watch over the Earth when the other one rested, and when Helios was in the sky the earth was safe as it was before, even though pockets of darkness still existed. But Selene, being a woman, was not suited for the demanding work of looking out over the Earth. Her glow was much weaker than that of her brother and was inconstant, stronger at sometimes, weaker at others. Under her watch night flourished, and the powers of darkness prevailed. Eventually Selene and her attendants bore many descendants as the Earth had borne children for me to rule over. My name became a mere myth, forgotten in the sea of time. Over the millenia I saw the evil which threatened to take over my beloved Earth but I was unable to do anything until a short time ago.
The turning point came with the return of the Great Dragon. The Silver Imperium Crystal reacted with a strange orb brought from the far away land where the Dragon fled to so long ago. Immediately, it returned to me and restored me to my former glory. I appeared before the royal family of Crystal Tokyo and told them I would bring peace to the world, but they claimed that they didn't need me to since they already obtained their goal of a peaceful society. I pointed out the flaws in their self-proclaimed utopia, but they insolently said they'd take this flawed version of peace than be under my rule anymore. I had to teach these mere mortals a lesson in obedience: no one, not even my own descendants, stood with me.
I fought the disobedient children, including the children of Selene and the daughter of Helios. There was some resistance, but I easily defeated the rulers of Crystal Tokyo, even though the king was of a bloodline I did not recognize immediately but later remembered as one that could have destroyed the Earth. Several other fighters were of this particular heritage, but even their struggles were in vain...all except for one. Her name was Diana, and along with the daughter of Helios, Princess Sola, were able to weaken me somewhat by destroying the Great Dragon, but once again my power proved too great for them to overcome. Sola, though, somehow transferred her power to Diana, who had transformed into Neo Sailor Moon. Along with the energy gathered from her defeated allies and amplified by the power of the Crystal, she was able to triumph. But to win she had to use up her own life energy in the process, so in the end she died without an heir, thereby ending the legacy of Sailor Moon. Ironic, isn't it, that in the same way I sacrificed my existence for victory in the distant past that she did the same so recently?
