DIC, absolutely. CWI killed whatever was left of it, messed up the names more then dic ever could, and couldn't get people who could actually sing for the songs. It was an abomination. They are the reason why we have names like "serena tsukino" and the reason why some people think uranus and neptune are just "cousins". They did a terrible, shotty, and rushed job. The new voice for serena was just bad, ami's new voice was just bad, instead of the name "amy anderson" that DIC created, and was just fine since ami is already more close to her original name, CWI messed that up and changed it to "ami mizuno" (and I know that's her original name, so it isn't wrong .. just VERY inconsistent.) And, then on top of trying to make it all "closer to the original" (which it just wasn't), they just royally screwed everything up. Oh yes, and let's not forget the super-cool dialouge which made the characters say stuff like "what's up dawg?" and "that's da bomb!" .. geez, i'll take DIC's valley-girl slang any day over that. What, did they even CARE about writing good dialouge or making the characters stay IN character? Apparently not, because not even DIC was that lame.

I had to actually mute my television when "serena" and "rini" used their transformation, because their combined voices were enough to shatter my windows and make me go deaf.

Dic wasn't perfect at all, but I felt they did a better job - their songs were somewhat cheesy but didn't sound bad. They had people who could actually sing, and much better voice talent, and dialouge. The voices were mostly pleasant - I had no problems with terri hawks for serena's voice. I thought she gave serena a believable personality, good humor, and even though usagi in the original was supposed to have a more high pitched voice (naoko once commented that her voice was too low) I think terri hawks and the others did a good job. That was until S and SuperS. Then any quality whatsoever just went down the toilet.

This is a very hard thing for me to decide.

First - Normally I would pick Cloverway for keeping decently close (closer than DIC) to the storyline. HOWEVER, "Serena's" voice just destroyed my eardrums EVERY TIME she spoke. She did get better somewhat in SuperS, but the damage had been done from S and was still going on in SuperS.

So if I had to pick which Dub was better (oxymoron there), I would have to pick DIC. Even though they sucked on the storyline, at least they were CONSISTENT in their suckiness. The music wasn't bad, though I did prefer the original. Some of the songs were really good. And the voice actors blended very well together.

On the other hand, Cloverway really screwed things up, all except for Jupiter. She did her all the way through four seasons and I love her voice. I really root for Terri Hawkes, she was excellent. The most notable horrible voice in Cloverway's dub was Serena and Amy. Serena's was just...horrible...Amy's voice, while close in tone and range to her original in the first two seasons, NEVER followed through with the transformation phrases for one and sounded very weak for another. Every time she would get to "...POWER!", she faltered and it sounded very self conscious and weak. None of the attacks she called out seemed to signify that she was taking this seriously.

Anyway, if I had to pick between either bad (each has entirely different 'bads') dubs, I would have to go with DIC. As I stated before, at least they were consistent in their suckiness.

I picked Dic for the above mentioned reasons--- like aDam said, I love Sugar as Rini, but she can't save Cloverway.

Also, I don't know what's the big deal about the original japanese music. They had better variety, but dude, I hated the transformation and attack music. It didn't sound like they were getting ready to fight. Dic's was an improvement in my opinion. That, and during the final battle for SuperS....they totally used the wrong background music. So yeah.

And I BELIEVE that the music DiC used was just out of style. It didn't even match the animation style. Atleast the transformation and attack music changed during the seasons, DiC just recycled the same cues. Many people complain that the original music was ''cheesy'', yet, when I look at DiC's, I just want to vomit. I personally believe the whole ''marching'' sound like music was bad. The tranformation's in the American was just as ''cheesy'' too, in my honest opinion. I loved the Outer's themes, and I would detest on what they do to it.

yea, strange but I liked most of dic's music for some reason. However, nothing, IMO compares to the original music.

I liked how they used Carry On for the last battle for th first season. It just seemed like a better song mood than the original opening. But that's just me.

I also liked the DiC dub, even though it is full of evil. I wish they stuck with the original voice actress for "Serena" though. She was so cute in the first couple episodes.

:? I meant to say that it would be cool if they cast Tracey Moore as Serena for Classic through SuperS. Tracey Moore was the one who played Serena in the very first few episodes of the first anime season. Then, they switched and Terri Hawkes took over. Tracey Moore has a pretty high voice which is suitable for the character. :)

I preferred Terri Hawkes, personally, but...didn't Tracy Moore do the voice for Chibiusa in R?

I just wish someone would buy the rights again and release everything unedited, unamericanized but that would just be to simple for them, would it?

As voice actors go I like DIC but the way they killed the series is no good. Never seen Cloverway's version but I bet its better then DIC. Hey how about we pull a pot and try and buy the rights to Sailor Moon here in the U.S. then we can control what the editing is like and stuff and even get stars over here *finally*. :P

Ahhh dreamland is wonderful this time of year.

Yah, Serena's first voice actress was really good for her... She also did the first episode or episodes of R didn't she? Dic was all mixed up.

I voted Dic. The sound and visual quality from the Cloverway episodes, to me, seemed really dull/bad. I just didn't seem as polished.

And, well, cousins? Come on!! Not only is that stupid (friends, what's wrong with friends!), it turns Neptune and Uranus into kissing cousins... Or at least cousins who play with their hands together (still can't believe that scene was left intact... I forget the episode number now...).

You know, call me crazy, but I really wish that Takeuchi-sensei had given her thumbs-up to a second original Japanese version of the SM animé, specifically customized (not bastardized) for dubbing into English and French and exporting to a North American audience. If that was the case, the censorship of the show in the U.S. and Canada could have been kept to a significant minimum. Whaddaya think about that?

I love the DiC vocie actors for the main characters. I love Toby Proctor's voice, he did Tuxedo Mask in episodes 12-40, 42-65. He is my favorite voice actor ever. The Japanese voices and the English voices for the main characters are great in both versions. I love the Japanese version of SM the most, then the DiC version. DiC shows a lot of passion in the series, being that they compsoed all their music, which shows they really care about what they're doing. I vote DiC.

That would really cause a lot of money. I think money is the big issue here. I mean, they didn't even bother to remaster the movies for DVD and they're mostly left at stereo and mono. :|

 I remeber the 1st time i heard Mamo-chan's original voice i thought it was way too deep & old. Toby was the best; friendly & warm, but could be serious & determined in a flash.

I so very agree with Jadeite2 about trying to keep both versions seperate [mine brain exploded when I start thinking about all the atrocities comitted to the pretty suited soldier when she was brought overseas  ] . I turned my back on DiC when I saw subs, but I realized DiC was also just as good when considered a different parellel universe-kinda show. Ahem, cartoon

The power of love is the best dub song ever, btw.
