Worst thing Crystal did?

There’s already threads up about this topic for the 90’s anime and Manga so why leave Crystal out of the fun? Honestly a harder question to ask would be what did Crystal do right?

1. Shoehorning in a pointless and horribly executed Sen/Shi shipping plot line.

2. Giving Venus’s Beryl kill to Usagi.

3. Giving a lot of what little moments the Inners even had in the manga to Usagi.

4. Sucking the personality out of Manga Minako and Rei

5. Too many cut panels, and in as short and fast paced a manga as Sailor Moon every panel counts for characterization.

6. Laughably bad animation in the DK arc. (SAILUHR MUHRS and flash animated twirling Moon Stick anyone?)

7. Got rid of the what little comedy the manga had in the first two seasons in an effort to be “mature.”

8. Inners function too much like a homogenous hivemind, they all have essentially the same backstory, all feel Usagi “saved” them, and even finish each other’s sentences! The Inners lacked screentime in the manga sure, but it never got this bad!

9. Tried to have it’s cake and eat it too, it was targeted specifically towards adult women who grew up on Sailor Moon yet toned down all the violence and cool horror elements because… reasons?

10. The fact that they still have yet to animate the Sailor V manga or the short-stories, which is where alot of the Inners characterization lies.

11. How long it’s taking as a project to finish. This was supposed to be made to celebrate the 20th anniversary of a franchise, so why has it extended all the way into the 30th anniversary?

12. The incredibly stupid way they changed Demande’s death by trying to make it ever so slightly sympathetic, sorry but sympathetic and Manga Demande don’t go together.

I agree about the lazy animation (twirling the stick in Act 13). But why keep mentioning that in-between frames of Sailor Mars?

SHITtenou X Senshi side arc. TOEI lazily trying to bank on an idea by the author which was popular among the manga fans. Executed terribly. This would have made a great filler in my opinion if written and directed properly like what I've heard they did with La Reconquista. #WastedOpportunity

Chiral and Achiral also looking like they only have 5 frames of animation. It makes those 60s/70s Hanna-Barbera cartoons look like a technical marvel. Didn't help the fight was bland when all they did was stand. They were so badass in the 90s being able to make negative shields, flight, earth manipulation and phase to the ground.

Rolling Heart Vibration looking so bland too. You have the videogame for that. Why not referenced that one?

- often the plot and the events were not understood by the animators and were not represented correctly, just see episodes like act 6 to understand what I'm talking about.

- very little effort has been put into creating a series that has a lot of potential when adapted well.

- Often not the right emphasis is given in some scenes. Just seeing when the Black Lady throws the dark crystals on the surface of the earth, she doesn't seem to show all the malice that should characterize her at that moment, nor the right gloomy and dark atmosphere of the moment. Or the whole two Eternal movies.

- Sometimes you can't determine the emotions of the characters, which is strange, in the 90's series and in the manga the emotions of each individual character are well represented.

- the drawings are often done with little accuracy, sometimes it gives the impression that the series was made by constraint...

- small or substantial changes in the plot, things that could have been avoided like the attempt senshi x Shitennou.

- animations sometimes woody or too slow (especially in Crystal I, II and Eternal).

- omit certain insights of the characters and the side stories of the manga.

- The powers of the Senshi are almost never represented well in effectiveness on their surroundings (especially in Eternal).

Honestly my only problems with crystal is the horrifically ugly animation for the first two seasons. What a disappointment. I still haven't finished them, and I probably never will because of how much it turns me off. I loved the 3rd season and beyond though, but it sucks that Crystal as a whole will be forever mocked because of Toei's neglect.

In the beginning not paying homage to things like the 90s anime, the musicals, and PGSM or taking the best things from each of the adaptions and adding them in. The lack of Moonlight Densetsu. Not even trying to get back any of the main cast from the 90s anime. Naoko is friends with most or if not all of them so I don’t see why she didn’t try to get them back. Also, Toru Furuya was at the 20th anniversary with Kotono Mitsuishi and he got replaced. The new voices for the Inners and Outers and Crystal are ones that I barely remember. Tux’s voice is okay cause he sounds similar to the original though. If they had kept just Usagi and Mamoru’s voices that would’ve been great but I still would’ve loved to see at the very least the Inners, Chibiusa, and Megumi Ogata back as Sailor Uranus.

I don't really mind it, tbh. It fits perfect for what they were going for with her character in the OG anime, and the tone she used gave her this slight maturity that I always liked about her there.
I do understand what you mean, though. Itoh is one of the tops, anyways. She voiced Akiha-sama, after all :weary:

You know, as crazy as that sounds...it would have been so wild in the manga if instead of Lethe, Papillon, Phi and Chi killing off the Starlights, Kakyuu and the cats if the Galactica versions of Usagi's friends had killed them forcing Usagi to fight and kill them on her way to Galaxia's palace.
But in Crystal, I'd prefer they leave those kills be and keep the other members of Shadow Galactica intact-ica.


As for the main question, good grief, I don't even know. I think the worst thing it did was just exist in the state it's in. It's been such a nightmare rollercoaster of emotions and made me sad so many times and I just keep hoping it will get better...then I remember how it's already destroyed the first arc, did so-so with the second arc, aliented half the viewers with the third arc and then made two movies that are so unexceptional...not bad, not good...they just are.
But the whole time I'm so happy watching it, knowing I'm being led on...then after it ghosts me for years it comes back and starts the whole process over...only this time it took all my money by making a ton of collectibles. I've just preordered the next wave of collectibles.
Sailor Moon Crystal itself is the worst thing Sailor Moon Crystal has done!
So when is Stars coming out?
