The animation of that Saint Seiya anime/film (?) looks gorgeous... Woah. Just beautiful!

The character design kind of looks like that of the actual manga and the character design also reminds me of the original anime from the 1980s.

Added: Watched the trailer again!

Wait... IS THAT... A FEMALE VERSION OF SAINT SEIYA?

It's an anime, and it's "Saint Seiya goes Sailor Moon" style. I like the colors, but the animation itself looks ugly and stiff to me lol

Now I'm not gonna lie to the Moonies in here. I won't sit up here and say I watch Crystal like the Original. Im not huge on it but I still like it for what it is. Toei did butcher it but I mean it made it made more profitable too. The American version of SM is a more butchered version of a butchered Japanese version.

I'm pretty fine with people talking bad about it for fun cause I can take the jokes and it's humorous.

I think imaginationgirl is right. Toei treats Sailor Moon like it's other shows but time and everything else is a factor too.

I believe they are chopping the movie into episodes. Ive looking at some of their animated movies to get a general idea of what to expect. I keep eyeing that Digimon Tried movie and scatching my head.

Saintia Sho is based off a spinoff manga by Chimaki Kuori and is still ongoing (since 2013) and yeah, it's an all-female team. This is the ONA that was revealed back in 2016 when the CG Netflix reboot and the live-action movie were also announced.

As for the animation, Toei is part of the production committee but, as revealed last month, all of the work is being done at studio Gonzo.....and they haven't had a good show in over 10 years so they better not screw this one up.

For a movie it really looks pretty stiff, now that you mention Gonzo, I can get it why. Toei put more effort in their movies, so I was puzzled. But now that you clear it is an ONA, it looks very good. Gonzo though...

I rest my case.

Just look at "Saint Seiya," a TOEI anime from the 80s, and all of its films and spin-offs. TOEI asked. The creator of "Saint Seiya" said "yes, sure, why not?" I doubt TOEI wouldn't extend the courtesy to Naoko Takeuchi before creating a series to compete with her own.

I don't even know most of the shows Gonzo did (I only think of the Muppet of the same name when I hear him), but this is making me curious: if we get the Crystal movies, will Toei let another animation studio do the animation for the film but only distribute it? If so, I hope they choose a studio like Madhouse...

Gonzo has always been a studio that start their project strong and plan the budget poorly, or just don't put budget into it. Romeo and Juliet, Chrono Crusade and the poorly done Basilisk are good example. They are in decline i recent years. I have a feeling Toei will let someone else do the films as they clearly cannot do it woth all their projects. But god ony knows if it will be for the better, as Toei films usually look pretty decent, while studios like Gonzo...

Only Gonzo anime I really saw as "Rescue Me Mave Chan" a terrible 25 minute OVA I got at a Goodwill. At least it was cheap.

And this animation still looks better than Soul of Gold...

Gonzo was always hit or miss plus they had a reputation for failing at producing proper endings to their adaptations. Black Cat from 2005 was a decent show (though it had it's differences from the manga which ended a year prior to the anime) but they went with an anime-original arc for it's last 4 episodes and dropped the ball hard with it's changes and pacing, even the finale was terrible because of how super-rushed it was. When I rewatch the show I pretend it ended at episode 20 because up until that arc, it was pretty good. Another example is Afro Samurai, I enjoyed the show despite how short it was but the second half of the Resurrection movie was awful.

Their work in video games during their worst years (late 2000s) was also questionable, With Street Fighter IV, we had nice cutscenes and an OVA animated by Studio 4C but then Capcom went with Gonzo for Super/Ultra Street Fighter IV and the cutscenes were not as good since they were mostly bad-looking stills. They also worked on cutscenes for the PS3 versions of the first two BlazBlue games and there's a noticeable drop in quality with the second game, Continuum Shift.

Going a bit off topic here, but Toei showed the Saintia Sho trailer dubbed into Brazilian Portuguese at CCXP (our local version of Comic Con), and Leticia Quinto (aka "Molly" and Sailor Star Healer) is back as Saori/Athena. :googly:

Stories are connectable and expandable. The creator of Saint Seiya gets that. I wonder how many spin-offs and versions of "Sailor Moon" we could have had by now if Naoko Takeuchi was less controlling and as willing to collaborate with others as Saint Seiya's creator, Masami Kurumada.

She told the producers of the new musicals they could do whatever they wanted. She let someone else novelize the manga. It's ridiculous to try to insinuate that Naoko is somehow preventing new stories or a Sailor Moon expanded universe from happening. It's not happening because Toei is obviously not interested. It might be nice if Naoko were proactively working on new content, but she's not obligated to do so.
